Honestly, you two are just breaking down all of these "masculinity" stereotypes like "cool dudes don't listen to music like Taylor Swift." What makes you both genuinely cool is your open-mindedness towards Taylor's music. And honestly, any music by women that showcases their feelings and vulnerability, you guys aren't pausing to throw shade and tell them they're wrong or overly emotional. Huge respect for guys like you, not only for listening and understanding but also for showing that men can like and appreciate Taylor's music without feeling that it'll make you "less cool"..

Many types of men listen to female singers, and even listen to romantic songs. Rockers and especially metalheads are quite open to this. Mazzy Star is great to listen to, especially songs like Take Everything or something like Kissing You by Des’ree. There are different types of men, but if you look at the mainstream type of males, they’re very closed minded because they mainly follow only the mainstream but they’re not most men. Taylor’s a great singer and a great writer, and honestly much more enjoyable than Beyoncé or JLO, they’re trash imo.

This song is supposed to be about Scott Borchetta selling her Masters without offering to sell to her first. He was the founder of Big Machine Records, and signed Taylor when she was 15 years old (2005). Her contract ended in (2018), and she signed with Republic Records (UMG). Then in (2019) he sold Big Machine Records to Scooter Braun for $300 mllion dollars, which included the Masters to her first 6 albums . That is why she is rerecording her first 6 albums.

Thank you! I love this song but finally reading the lyrics and the guys saying “she was betrayed” I realized this song was about them stealing her masters.

She was offered to get her masters but she had to earn them by giving her first label a new album for every album she wanted back which sounded like more prison time, really. Bad deal so she had to walk away. So glad she decided to re-record…she took shit and spun gold with it!!! 💩💩💩🟰🥇🥇🥇👸🏼👑👑👑

The songs that she wrote directed to another woman are only 4, that I can recall:
-Better Than Revenge (Speak Now - 2010): It is said to be about Camile Belle, the girl that Joe Jonas dated shortly after breaking up with Taylor. Taylor changed the lyrics for the TV chorus of this song. The original said "She's better known for the things that she does on the mattress", whilst the Taylor's Version says "He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches". She changed it because this song faced a lot of controversy during the years for being a sexist/slutshaming song, understandable coming from a mind of a 18-yr girl that felt some other girl stole her man, even though the fault of the situation is all on him.
-Bad Blood (1989 - 2014): It is about her already over duel with Katy Perry. This fight was nonsense and unnecessary from start to finish and was heavily fueled by the media who wanted to point two women against each other. It started because of backing dancers and went full on shady songs and stuff (Taylor releasing Bad Blood in 2014, Katy responding with Swish Swish in 2017). Years later they got together and talked about the whole situation and found out that most of the things they thought and heard about it were painted and weren't really true and they forgave each other and made peace. Taylor invited Katy to make an appearance in her music video for 'You Need to Calm Down' where they find each other and hug it out in peace (in the context of the fight and also in the context of the music video).
-Mad Woman (Folklore - 2020): This one is a more general song about how media likes to portrait women and how they are not able to react and be real about things like injustice and manipulation or else they will be painted as a mad woman (and no one likes a mad woman), but this song also have a singular taste because it also can be considered as a message to Kim Kardashian. In one of the lyrics Taylor says "And women like hunting witches too / doing your dirtiest work for you / It's obvious that wanting me dead has really brought you two together". I don't know if you guys know about the Kim/Kanye situation that led to Taylor being canceled in 2016 (if you want, I can give you a small recap of what happened, but things got really bad and Taylor LITERALLY disappeared for a whole entire year before making her legendary comeback with Look What You Made Me Do and reputation), but years after that, Kim and Kanye split and she revealed some shitty details about their relationship and about how Kanye was not really a good man, but chose not to speak about it before. This is reflected in one of the lyrics of the song where Taylor says "She should be mad / should be scathing like me / but no one likes a mad woman".
-Closure (Evermore - 2020): It is said that this song is about Karlie Kloss. Karlie was an old friend of Taylor that publicly supported Scooter Braun in the whole masters' sales situation and then tried to soften all the things with Taylor, but simply there was nothing to work there anymore because the friendship was over at the moment she chose to be on Scooter's side.
Btw love the reaction and I'm loving to see you guys digging and dipping in the world of Taylor Swift. This is an ocean with no bottom and you guys must be ready and prepared if you wish to continue.

She was referring to her former manager Scott Borchetta who signed her up into his small company at that time. He was like a father figure to her, they had a very good relationship then and his company got big because of her. She wrote the song Change when they started to be recognized and Taylor got her first award . He was almost in tears when she performed that song .The rest I guess you know what happened to her masters .
The line in this song that says " We gather stones not knowing what they mean, some to throw, some to make a diamond ring" refers to the many songs she has written that were kept in the vault , not making into the albums. The diamond rings would be her big hits. She is such a phenominal writer!

“Here she go…” If there’s any way I could describe Taylor’s lyricism, it’s that sentence alone 😂
Edit: In the Long Pond Studio Session (on Disney+) she basically says that this song was inspired by the idea of betrayal coming from an enemy who was once a friend (she compares it directly to a divorce, but fans also know it’s about what she went through when her masters were sold without her consent) and how dirty people can really get in the process of that betrayal - the things that you’ll do, the lengths you’ll go to, and how your own pain and experiences can also end up hurting you in the long run. It’s BEAUTIFUL storytelling at its finest!!

    • @mandaleiadcox2519
      @mandaleiadcox2519 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I love how it's based on the idea of betrayal and not a particular experience. Omg she is able to be so emotional with something that isn't based on any one bad experience. What talent!

I would suggest the folklore love triangle songs ("cardigan", "august" and "betty") to react to! Like all three could be one video, they all connect and go together. But they also are great to react to individually, especially "cardigan". These songs really show her gift of storytelling. She wrote them from three different characters' perspectives about teenage love. One song is about what was happening in the present, one in the future from a slightly older and wiser perspective, and one reflecting on the whole situation/what it meant for her close to the event. All songs are off of "folklore". You'll hear familiar words and phrases used in each song, connecting the story together. But they can also stand alone and make sense. It's so interesting and creative. I would do anything to go back and listen to "folklore" again for the first time and realize that the three songs connect. It would be really fun to watch you react to that!! I love y'all's content so much and am so appreciative of people who have an open mind about artists' work and what it's about, when they may not have typically gravitated towards that artist in the past. Keep it up, everyone is loving seeing you guys explore and analyze so thoughtfully! You two are also so smart and hilarious I love it!
Fun Fact: In the songs, there are four characters mentioned: Betty ("cardigan"), August/Augustine ("august"), James, ("betty") and Inez. Inez is just mentioned in "betty" briefly as almost a side character, the other three are who the love triangle is about, like the main characters of the story. But they all have different perspectives of what happened. But anyway the fun fact is that Taylor is good friends with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, and their kids are named Betty, James, and Inez. So it's sweet how their names are in three of her songs. Sort of unrelated but Betty (the kid not the character) also has a line in another song called "Gorgeous" off of "Reputation" and her baby voice is so cute in the song.
Sorry for all the information I know it's a lot, but I do hope you read it and consider reacting and/or just listening! Have a nice day! :)

Loved the reaction! You guys should react to No Body No Crime. Taylor has a love triangle written in three songs, August, Cardigan and Betty. Betty is about a girl and can be interpreted as a girl on girl love song, or you can interpret the interest to be a boy as well. That is because Taylor uses the name "James" to honour a friends child, but the thing is, the child is a girl.

Taylor was betrayed by Scott Borchetta who was the owner of Big Machine, her former record label. (In the song she says that she could go anywhere, just not home). She's with a good label now. They let her do whatever she wants and they release her music the way she wants it done and she OWNS her work under that label. She has rerecorded 3 of her first 6 albums as Taylor Versions. They have all debuted at number 1. Subscribed.

*Bad blood* (about a previous feud with a friend)
*Better Than Revenge* (about an ex's new girlfriend, which she wrote in response to said ex's song written about her, how she was "much better" than Taylor. Song originally contained slut-shaming lyrics which Taylor changed for the Taylor's Version, and they're superior lyrics to be honest)
*Closure* (personally I think it's about an ex-friend, but possibly, most likely Borchetta)
*New Romantics* (unofficial 1989 anthem, 🎉)
*Bigger Than The Whole Sky* (about loss, possibly a miscarriage, which is personally how I interpret it)
    *Anti-hero* (about insecurities)
    *Long Live* (fans' anthem)
    *You're on your own, kid* (slow-burner, tear-jerker)
*Mad Woman* (about female oppression in relation to anger expression, and gaslighting which results from it)
    *The Lucky One* (fame)
    *Seven* (one of my favourites)
*Miss Americana and the...* (about U.S. politics, essentially)
    *Safe & Sound* (hauntingly beautiful)
*Soon You'll Get Better* (her mom battling cancer) + *The Best Day* (sweet song for her mom)
*Welcome to NY* (starting over in NYC)
    *Marjorie* (reminiscing about her grandma)
*Ronan* (poignant lyricism, real life backstory inspiration)

It may be about Scott Borchetta. When trying to decide what record label to sign with at the start if her career she chose Big Machine Records. She was the first artist this company signed. I remember her and her father talking about this and it was a big deal, emotional too. So yes she definitely felt betrayed, later on Scott knew she didn't respect or like Scooter Braun.

Yay! I love it! I cannot get enough of your videos!
I was thinking, for a song where a woman hurt her, there is always Better Than Revenge and Bad Blood (do the one with Kendrick Lamar or the video)!
However, I've seen you guys react to a lot of darker T-Swift stuff. I'd love to see some reactions to love songs!
-Emma Falls In Love (Talking about watching her friend fall in love)
    -Lover
    -Cornelia Street (live from pairs)
    -Red
    -Willow
    -The One
    -Enchanted
    -August
    -You All Over Me
Songs I love that I would love to see you guys react to overall:
-All Too Well (10 minute version, and/or short film) - awe man this would be epic
-All the Speak Now Vault Tracks (I think you guys would be surprised by I Can See You)
-Nothing New (about her career/ getting older in the music industry, I'd love to hear your guys'thoughts)
    -Clean
-Safe & Sound (Taylor's Version for the sound)
-Don't Blame Me (I think you guys should watch the Reputation Tour for this song... amazing, and campared to what you have reacted to thus far, the sound is different)!
    -The Archer
-All Of The Girls You Loved Before (I'd love to see men react to this song)!
-Tolerate it (this is a rough one too, like what you all have reacted to thus far)
-I'd Love to see your thoughts on the Anti-Hero and Karma videos too!
Honestly anything you react to I will watch! I appreciate these videos if you couldn't tell lol! 💛💜❤

Something I find crazy about this song is the line "cause when I'd fight you used to tell me I was brave". When the music Mean from Speak Now was first released it won two Grammys and on her speech Taylor thanked Scott for believing in her. They were not only close, he seems to have been a huge supporter for her throughout it all. If we think she released Reputation with his label - an album filled with tea about really important and influential people at the time - and he backed her up... It just gets sadder :(
BTW, you should DEFINETLY listen to Mean!

She's talking about Scott Borchetta which was owner of her former record label Big Machine Records. Taylor was the first artist that signed to this label when she was 15 and was really only successful artist from there, so basically almost all money Big Machine made were from Taylor. Scott was almost like 2nd father to her, so i can understand how much pain it cost her when he sold her first 6 albums to her bully Scooter Braun for 300M dollars without ever allowing her to buy these masters. He offered Taylor that he'll give her 1 album for every new album she'd release under them. That means 6 new albums for 6 old albums and i'm not sure but she probably wouldn't own these new 6. He knew she wanted to own her music, he knew about Scooter cause she had endless conversation about Scooter where she was crying and then Scott just blocked everything out and still sold her masters to her biggest enemy.
But Karma got him because since she left Big Machine records and released her albums Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights and re-recordings of Fearless, Red and Speak Now her net worth more than doubled in those few years. When she left in 2018 her net worth was around 360M and now in 2023 is Taylor's net worth over 740M and her current tour The Eras Tour will cross over 1B dollars and more than half will go to Taylor so she will become a billionar and with re-recordings she highly devalued original masters, so she won in a long run.

I just found yawls channel and I absolutely love it! Subscribed after the first video I saw! This, however, is my favorite song by Taylor Swift! I like how I was confused by it at first, because the word ricochet means come back to you and at first, I couldn't really see how that was happening in the song, but then someone described it as this!
She loved and cried over someone - but they didn't show the same energy until she was dead and as they were looking at her dead body (possibly in a casket at the wake she mentions) he is finally the one crying over her and his tears roll off his cheeks onto her coffin (thus making the tears she shed for him ricochet back to her from him crying!)
at the end of the long pond studio sessions for this song at the end she adds (look at all of my tears turning into your tears)

    Songs written about woman
Better than revenge - is about the girl Joe Jonas left Taylor for
Bad blood is about Katy Perry (they're cool now)
Wonderland - is about Diana agron 👀
Dress - is a sexy song about Karlie Kloss (IMO)
Cornelia street - and a lot of songs also about Karlie Kloss
Mad woman - she mentions the woman involved in this masters situation
It's time to go - she mentions Karlie Kloss again in the opening and their "demise"
