If 2nd passes the finish line when the shell was thrown it'll go for 3rd. So I /want/ to say that 1st - 4th had passed the finish line and since he was in 5th when the shell was thrown, it went for him even if he fell back to 7th.

After you get hit, you can hold the brake and the gas to charge a standstill mini turbo, this is faster than just holding accelerate. Hold them down until you see blue sparks, then release. You can also do a wheelie after for more speed.
no, not really Nintendo didn’t re-use this feature in future mario karts because people said it slowed them down it’s even worse in a chain of attacks, when just accelerating you at least get forward even right before the finish line you don’t do that turbo thing
How you throw the shell backwards is you hold the B button then you press the left arrow key (while your Wii remote is in the wheel position) (Hold the A button if you're playing in Manual Mode)

Pop a wheelie when the road is straight so you can go faster😭 Also, if your car has high speed low acceleration, then you'll be slowed down more when you're hit with stuff, but if you have high acceleration low speed, your highest speed is less, but you get back that speed really fast. And the middle is a nice mix between the both of them
