These videos are really helpful - especially the "imagine a line running down the nail" tip. Also, in one of your other videos, you mentioned not going by the white part of the nail tip. That's helped me a lot. Thank you!
Soooo satisfying to see shaping. Learning and imagining my own hand mirroring the movements you make has helped me a lot. We are lucky to have you creating kind of quality content 🤌🏻 Also, I want her nails, lovely feminine nailbed shape.
Thank you so much for this! I go between soft square & this because my nails start to curl down once they grow to a certain point,.meaning they can't keep the soft square shape. But I really struggled to maintain this shape once I've done it 😭 I end up filing them down to short soft square & it's a never ending cycle! Would love to maintain this shape with much longer nails. They catch & split much less too in this shape 🤗😘
Thanks for another brilliant video Ana. There’s definitely an technique to filing and shaping nails (I don’t have it) but thank you for the great info and demonstration❤️
I have been following your advice and using oil on my nails multiple times a day for a few weeks now. Most of the damage (Acrylics) has grown out and my nails are looking the best they ever have. My thumbs have still a little bit more to grow out. I haven’t been wearing nail polish…as I wanted to use the oil on my nails as well as the cuticle. I would love to know which nail polish you used for this video? Her nails look fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing your videos, advice and knowledge.
Aah thank you so much for this!! Super helpful, i had asked about nail shape in your second to last live you did but i think you were already ending so this helps a ton.
Very informative! I’ve needed a shaping video. Telling us HOW to place the file was very helpful. On the pinky finger of the second hand (around 6:45) there is a white piece on the right side of the nail. What is it and what should one do about it? I also get these on some nails. They’re usually hard and can be peeled back and then clipped off. But not sure if that’s what I should be doing. Thanks!
I am so thankful for these shaping videos! Do you prefer the 'sandpaper' type of file to a glass file? What is your preferred remover for Dazzle Dry polish, acetone or non-acetone?
Hi Anna! I love your videos and have learned so much about nail care. I’m curious if you’ll be swatching the CND Fall 2022 collection soon? I’m feeling a bit meh about the colors, but as CND make my favorite polishes I’d love to see them in action… many thanks. :)
I've learned a lot from your videos and thank you for sharing your vast knowledge. Have you tested and evaluated nail glues? I have vertical cracks in some of my nails and would like to glue them in place until they grow out. Is this okay to do? I imitate your nail modified shaping and really like how it looks. It's better for brittle nails too. PS I'm old and nails have ridges as well.
Just wanted to say you are amazing!♥ A few questions: 1. How does one fix an uneven free edge? I.e. on some nails the nice white edge doesn't follow a perfect oval and goes deeper into a nail plate. I'm afraid this is something I might be doing when cleaning under the nails 🙈 2. How to find a nail shape that compliments the natural shape of the nail bed and the free edge the most? Thank you and much love from Canada!🇨🇦
Hi Yulia! I don't think you can fit an uneven free edge. It's actually very common to have a very uneven free edges. To clean under the nails using a soft toothbrush with soap is usually safer. My nails have uneven free edges too and I always think it's because I used to bite my nails until I was like 14 or something.... but then again, many people who didn't bit their nails also have it. So I think it's a part of natural nail beauty that it's a little uneven. I find that soft, natural oval shape is usually a shape that looks very good on majority of shapes. I usually follow the shape of the nail bed. But often clients want something else so that's what I do. It's a preference after all.
Anna, what do you recommend when someones fingers are crooked? Do you shape the point of nails according to the nail or to center of the start of the finger? Hope that makes sense! thank you
Good question!! I usually shape it in between. I look at the whole hand and the finger and do something in between, depends on the client and how uneven it is and if we are polishing or not. When polishing a bright, contrasting color I usually shape its it flows with the shape of the hand
I don't use clippers often because they can crack the nails iespecially f the nails are brittle pr quite thick. I would rather use e-file to shorten nails (and you see me often do that) Home care- I recommend filing nails (and a quick manicure) once a week so there is not that much to file after 1 week :)
Hi love your nail videos can you tell me why i have some kind of skin growing under free edges i pick them, clean under with pointed nail file and keep gowing back and im 64 years old
Hello :). Difficult to say without seeing your nails but check out my post on Instagram about Hyponychium instagram.com/p/CjF-h9vKLSV/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I’ve done this nail shape in the past, but I just feel like it’s too time consuming. I take forever to shape the nails. So I just stick to my regular square/rounded shape.
This mighy sound crazy but i break my manicure into 3-4 seperate days. I usually repolish on Saturday and sunday Thursday I file with the polish on and then give them a good wash with a soft toothbrush Friday i push back the P.N.F and them clean up the area getting rid or dry.skin calluses and hang nails(dry manicure) Saturday i remove the nail polish and give my.nails a good one over for any other imperfections. Depending on how im feeling Ill just apply 2 base coat layers or a base coat and 1 coat of polish and let dry.for 10 minutes and apply essie drops Sunday i apply another base coat and the final coat with a top coat and essie drops This has prevented chips and i get a good week of zero chips. I might apply a top coat a few days aftery final.coat. I use sticky base coats which give a flawless and professional finish
How often do you recommend trimming/filing nails to prevent over filing but yet maintain a shorter length. Max once a week? Or does it just depend on how fast the nails grow?
@@TheSalonLife okay I have also started to just file them once a week to prevent them growing out too long and breaking. For so long I over did it on buffing my nails so in an attempt to stop buffing or “smoothing” out the nail (which you taught me just removes a layer of the nail if you buff too harshly ) I threw out my buffers. Lol I understand a little buffing is okay but I was way too harsh on my nails before 😅🙈
Not really. Shipping is not that horrible! Like $25 or something. I’ve used other files and the quality is terrible. They wear out too quickly. These ones are excellent.
I have grown lines down all my nail since I stop cutting my cuticles though , I’m nudging back with tweezerman pushy and oiling and using urea cream , my cuticles are loads better but the ridges in my nails looks awful , I’m 55 and never had them before, could I be nudging back too hard?
Hi Karen, it could be but I have no way of telling without seeing your nails. It could be that you are pressing too hard. If you would like me to review your nails please check out this service I provide: www.thesalonlife.ca/services I'm glad to hear that you stopped cutting the skin around your nails (that is not cuticle). It is very important to know the difference
Your education, emphasis on natural nail care, and accepting "imperfections" is needed here.

i am enjoying this series! i like your idea of making the sides match with the imaginary line going down the center of the nail. very good tip!

Thanks for saying that a rounder tip looks better with more curved nailbed, while a flatter nailbed looks better with more squared nall tip.

Are round or oval nails the best shape that don’t break?

Over filing I mean like thinning them. I should have used over-buffing them. I shorten my nails once a week because I like consistent length
@@TheSalonLife okay I have also started to just file them once a week to prevent them growing out too long and breaking. Do you know if there's an alternative in Spain for the diamond nail file? It seems I cannot find any, 😭

I think Erica's files, for the high price, should have grit on both sides
When I file down to the end of the white free edge they break everytime. I like this shape, so feminine, but it wouldn't work for me.

Thank you 😊
