The Surface laptop 💻 still needs a simpler, elegant, and celaner user interface, and that’s what’s missing with Windows 10 Home. I wish I could move on with Windows laptop, but I can’t. Microsoft isn’t doing its part, I do Credit them with the Surface laptop however, but just wish, still. I guys it’s still not time for me to update my laptop 💻. Anyways, I love the video I really enjoyed it
CuriousStar XD I brought a surface last week and honestly it’s the best laptop I’ve owned ,if you want a nice big screen and fast interface get surface
This was a video I wanted, but I felt like no TH-camr wanted to cover. It was all XPS 9300 and the Air, never the Surface Laptop 3. Thank you for this video.
That was a great comparison man, straight to the point and unbiased I’ve Apple Watch, iPhone, AirPods and just bought a surface laptop 3 haha. Part of me wants to switch but for computer I’m about that Windows life
It's basically comes down to whether or not you are an Apple or a Windows user. I'm a Windows and Android user and really have no need for Apple products. I do agree with you that if you are on the Apple ecosystem already, it just makes sense to get Macbook.
I have been struggling on deciding between the Macbook Air and the Surface Laptop and this video definitely gave me more insight! Thank you for your review (:
@@DayoAworunse I’ve seen the M1 processor isn’t compatible with every application just yet, or needing to install an extra piece of software to get something to work. I got the 2020 MBP with an intel processor. The M1 looks nice, but it’s 1st gen, so I’d be cautious.
@@thomasski_7 Not really , I tried installing few games and then open nearly 10 tabs in chrome and couple of IDE's and then actually the fan started speeding up and could feel a bit of heat under the keyboard. But it was mostly normal and I didnt feel any heat issues when operating it in normal levels ( chrome , with youtube and couple of other softwares like excel , word ). But sadly I have to return it for a macbook ( somehow didnt find windows so appealing ) But I would say one of the best sturdy windows laptop out there if you wish to buy one just go for it.
Sathya Narayan Hmm, I’ve only used Windows, I’ve never tried MacBook before but currently I’m deciding between MacBook Air 13, Surface Laptop 3 and DELL SPX 13 9300.
Dayo, thank you so much for your comparison. I'm currently in the process of choosing between both of these exact laptops as an upcoming freshman in college this Fall. Your video was extremely helpful, but I would love to get your personal input for me. Overall, I am very keen to owning my very first Apple laptop with the 2020 MacBook Air, and trying out/learning MacOS. I currently own a Windows gaming laptop, so I was thinking about having the 2020 MacBook Air on the side solely dedicated to schoolwork and other light uses (hopefully helping me to not get distracted from my work), with my usual gaming laptop taking on every other tasks. I use an iPhone, and normally connect AirPods to my Windows, so the compatibility factor may also go up here. However, I believe the Surface offers a better value. It has a convenient USB-A port (feel like I really need this), doesn't necessarily take up a USB-C port for charging, better thermals, WiFi 6, faster U processor chip, touchscreen, and just a tad better webcam/microphone. Other than that, for me, both laptops seem to be either very close or on-par with each other in every other aspect. And, both laptops are very aesthetically pleasing, of course. All in all, what do you think I should go for? Should I stick with the Windows I'm used to, and go for the better-value Surface? Or see what MacOS has to offer, trying out new things and purchase the MacBook Air? BTW, the specs I'm going for are an i5 with 256GB storage. Sorry if this was a bit too long. Thanks!
If you can, try them both out (buy, test it out, return if you don't end up liking it), but I would say try out the MBA first. Since you have an iPhone & Airpods, delving into macOS, you might realize what the rave is about the Apple ecosystem. Productivity is just something that comes natural when working on macOS. You can pretty much have the best of both worlds by having the Air and your gaming laptop, switching to whichever you operating system you like! That being said, value-wise the Surface Laptop 3 is hard to pass up and is overall just a better machine when compared to the Air. These two truly going head-to-head with one another but based on pure specs and performance, Surface Laptop 3. Now, after owning the two and knowing the capabilities of the Surface, I still use the Air (typing to you on it now actually), just because of everything being tied to iCloud and all my other Apple products. It's something hard to explain unless you experience the full connectivity of all the Apple products.
Alright, thanks a lot man! I appreciate the view from someone who has used both machines. I will try and test both of them out if I can. I think no matter which one I end up choosing, I won’t really miss out too much compared to the one I didn’t choose because both are really great laptops. Also, if you didn’t notice already, you earned a sub! :) Can’t wait to see you grow.
@@MP-mq3zu Airdrop retains the original file and all its content. You can notice this when you message/email a photo & videos versus Airdropping. The Airdrop will always look much better. But you also have to take into consideration you need an iPhone or another Apple Product, which is extra cost. In terms of optimization you're correct. Some things work much better on Windows, some things work much better on macOS. If you have an iPhone though, I would almost always recommend a MacBook for that ecosystem cohesion. I agree with everything you said.
Literally here for a side by side look at the colors lol. Prefer the color of the Surface...if only it had black keys. Just found your channel and am loving the content, Keep it up.
zack king I’m getting the surface laptop 3 for my b day (October 6) and for I I would just go to amazon of some shop and get the key protected thingy..? Idk what it’s called 😆
it's really nice to see a tech TH-camr reviewing entry (or almost entry level) configurations. these are the configurations that most regular consumers (at least myself) are most likely to buy. when i was doing research before buying my xps, it drove me nuts that every TH-camr was reviewing the highest end models, with an easy $800 worth of upgrades.
Thanks and I really do enjoy using entry-level or value products. I felt the same way when trying to shop for a car. Most car reviewers had highest trim or options normal people wouldn't add to their car, it's really just the manufacturer trying to show off their best when it'll probably have the lowest volume of customers. Expect more base model laptops and devices on the channel.
Really great review. Such is the nature of youtubers. Someone with 1 million gives biased opinion and this guy is giving really unbiased opinion. Bravo!
This was a great video. So thorough, honest, and helpful! Loved the convenient & organized bookmarks (I guess that's what you call them?)!! And I was specifically looking for a demonstration of the camera & mic!! Thanks so much!! I don't usually subscribe to tech channels, but I did this time! You deserve it!
Thanks for your feedback! Had about 250 subscribers when I posted this lol, glad to see people still this as beneficial for them. What color did you end up getting?
I've got an Iphone and an Apple watch but the surface is more appealing to me overall. Do you think it would still be fine to have my apple phone and watch and a non apple laptop? (I currently have the Macbook air 2014)
It's okay to get a non-Apple laptop, but I would say if you enjoyed your Air 2014, it may be better to stay within the ecosystem of Apple and get the newer one.
Hey! Really appreciate your videos, helped me a lot when deciding what new laptop to buy for Uni, ended up getting the SL3 and I really love the overall build and look, however I've noticed this issue where there seems to be this faint buzzing sound coming from the top F11 and F12 keys. Apparently it is a very common bug with many people (looked online), was wondering if you may have experienced the same thing, it isn't by any means the end of the world with it but it can get quite annoying with the sound especially while in quiet areas it gets quite noticeable. Would greatly appreciate to your thoughts and maybe advice :)
@@DayoAworunse as a non-computer type person, it was a video I could understand and you made it all very clear. Im going to get the surface 3. Take care 👍
this was the most helpful review so thank you!! as a student, my concern is the compatibility of office apps with the apple. if i were to do a presentation on the mac which needed to be presented on a windows computer, or if i wanted to email a word document, is it easy and compatible to do? and also seems obvious but im assuming the mac book is better for long term durability?
This video really impressed me, very professional and well made. I am 99.9% sure I'm going to be getting the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 in the sexy black...
I have the Surface 3, MacBook Pro 2020 and an iPad Pro. I don’t miss anything with the MacBook not having a touchscreen. I rarely use the touchscreen on the Surface or any of the other Windows 10 PCs I’ve had.
Very nice video as a user who is using many Apple devices, there laptops just ain’t anything compared to windows.Planning on picking up the matte black surface looks so clean .
Good review! I currently have a iphone and Apple Watch but will definitely go for the surface pro.. due to the pdf issue with Apple and is not compatible with my school programs currently.
So I'm a student and I've had an iphone all my life, but I've never used a Macbook before. I'm currently using an old Hp laptop, which I usually use for browsing, school work, google applications (google drive), netflix, disney plus, basically like everyday tasks. I honestly don't know if I should get the Surface Laptop 3 or the New Macbook Air. My only concern with the Macbook is that I'm going to be using a lot of zoom next semester bc everything is online, and I've heard things about the fan being really loud and the laptop overheating but honesty idk if that fake news or not. Another one of my concerns is that the school I'm going to uses Microsoft Office, and I've heard that it's really annoying to use that on a Mac but idk bc I've never used one before. I do kinda want a Mac bc a lot of ppl say if u have an iphone using a mac just makes sense, but I also kinda want the SL3 cause it's really pretty and overall it is a little better than the Mac on paper. If it isn't obvious already, I can't choose between the two bc both r really nice laptops. Hope u can help me. Btw i'm gonna be using it for the next 4 yrs (don't know if that helps but thought i should just put that in there lol)
What HP laptop is it? I compared the Pro & Air and the Air failed the Zoom test miserably. That's not fake news. Microsoft Office works fine on a Mac. I'd say that's fake news. It is a hard choice, because you are right on paper the SL3 is better, but that extra connectivity and cohesiveness with the MacBook and other Apple products, make it that much better. All your tasks, both laptops can do fine and...you can't really go wrong with either. My personal opinion though, I would say get the SL3. The Zoom conferencing is a big deal and in good faith I can't recommend the Air for that reason. Deals right now you can get the base Pro (an even better machine and can handle Zoom) with student deals at Best Buy for the price of a i5 MacBook Air.
@@ishikashah7469 5 years is a lot in the laptop space, especially for Windows devices. If it were me, I'd go with the MacBook Air, but that's just me. I always give a check to Apple when it comes to build quality and they fixed pretty much every issue with the new Air...minus the heat, but I would suggest trying Zoom calls via the browser instead of the app.
Hey! Which one did you end up getting? I’m in the same situation as you and prefer the SL3 and would be needing a good one for college, but haven’t yet come to a decision😩
I've raised my table so the background isn't too much of the frame anymore in my more recent videos since I've seen this comment. Hopefully it's better now.
Dayo Aworunse ok, because im buying it for school work and roblox. So im trying to make sure they both work since i only use mac os. But u r sure that it can run roblox well right? like the high demand games so phantom forces? idk if u understand what im saying right now lol
@@super-ru7yb I will download Roblox and attempt to play Phantom Forces on high and let you know the performance. I understand what you're saying. I an ex-Roblox-er.
Which one would you choose between the Surface Laptop 3 i5 Quad-Core (256 GB) and the MacBook Pro (base model)? I want to keep the laptop for 4-5 years.
I would get the base MBP. I am bias a bit since I own a slew of Apple Products and they only seem to get more valuable the more you buy into the ecosystem.
Also what is the model number on the bottom of the MacBook 2020? I want to order a case for it before I order the laptop, so it comes around the same time, but I can’t find anything online that indicates what it is
If you want to do any type of gaming (Like Sims), the Surface Laptop 3 will undoubtedly be the better choice with the stronger processor. Even though you CAN run Sims 4 on the MacBook Air, it's not a device meant for gaming and you'll be lagging even on the lowest setting. If you want to do that, I'd wait for the MacBook Pro 13 (or 14) inch refresh. Model number is A2179. I don't recommend getting a case because with all the heat that needs to get out of the system, the case may hinder and cause it to get hotter quicker and in some cases affect the aluminum over time. If you want to protect your device, I recommend getting a dbrand skin.
I would say the True Tone technology in the Air is better for your sight since it can dynamically change the screen tone to match your surrounding to put less strain on your eyes instead of constantly feeding you that bright blue light. Note: This is different than the "night" mode that changes the hue of the screen to an orange to make your brain realize its not day time and sun setting, which both laptops do.
I think another big thing is programs that come on a computer. So I have been out of the computer game for a while (not even doing research to know what is new) but I just bought a new Air and programs like Pages which is essentially a Microsoft Word is pretty cool. Does Surface have Word build in or do they at least have Wordpad (that use to be pretty good back in the days as a watered down Word).
I don't believe Microsoft gives you the suite for free, but there may be deals when purchasing the Surface Laptop 3. I personally just use Google Docs/Sheets/Slides. It can transfer between either platform and offers more or less the same functionality. There is wordpad however.
Hi, I'm a student and Im going to college soon. I'm looking for a laptop that would last me 4 years without slowing down much. I have heard that windows laptops age very badly but is that true for such a high end windows laptop like this one as well? I have never used apple products and I always wanted to try mac os. I have heard lot of bad things for windows laptops which I have personally expierenced ( like crashing up, tons of updates, etc... ) . Ik I'm asking a lot but it wud be awesome if u can answer.. Thank you
Windows laptops have come a long way in the past few years. Apple has a track record of reliability (minus their butterfly keys) and consistent updates. To this day I still use my 2012 MacBook Pro. If you always wanted to try macOS why not give it a shot? The surface however is the better product overall and I would easily recommend it if you don't already have an iPhone.
Thanks so much for making these videos! I have been on the fence about these two laptops for the past week, and I think I have finally settled on the surface. After prolonged use, would you say that the surface laptop handles heating/cooling better? I've also seen reviews about the screen randomly cracking for some people, have you experienced that or is everything sturdy and holding up well?
The Surface Laptop is much better cooling than the Air. I haven't had any cracking issues at all the structure of the device is solid and I would argue even on par with Apple's build quality. Maybe they have a defective unit?
Hi Dayo! I am a student and i need an opinion on what laptop to purchase. I never owned a macbook nor a windows product, but i do own an iphone. I love the touch screen feature on the surface laptop 3 and the fact that it has a USB entry, so i wont have to be carrying a lot of dongles, but i also do love everything about the macbook air. I also want to start editing pictures and videos using the laptop... so which one would you recommend?
Hi Dayo. Nice review. What are your thoughts on the surface 3 laptop 15 inch? seems like the amd version can be rather laggy. Further, which m.2 2230 nvme ssd do you recommend to swap out the internal ssd?
Honestly one of my favorite Windows laptop and I highly recommend. You are correct, the AMD version just feels inferior to the Intel version and also has less battery life so please go with the Intel processor until they decide to refresh the model for this year. If you feel comfortable swapping out the ssd, I recommend since it'll be cheaper to do it on your own rather than forcing yourself to upgrade to the i7. The ssd must be a 'M.2 2230 SSD' so it's a bit hard but eBay has a decent amount of choice (Found 1 on Amazon but it had 1 star review) www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Toshiba-BG4-512GB-M2-2230-PCIe-NVMe-SSD-KBG40ZNS512G-500GB-Solid-State-Drive/324133273140
@@DayoAworunse Dayo, thanks for your informative comment which really shows how much research you do before answering any queries. Turns out im already using the amd version! I guess a bit more digging into the various brands of ssds will be the way forward. Hope your channel grows exponentially considering the amount of work you put into your videos and subsequent follow up on the comments!
Seems a bit overkill getting the i7. May I ask what you intend to use the laptop for? I say i5 is the most you should be getting in the Air and put that money towards 16GB of RAM
Hi, I am actually typing right now actually on my surface pro 7. I was having a debate between MacBook or windows for a new laptop. I believe that I have one of those hp stream laptop and within a year , my hp laptop screen broke that it was loose and I had to get it fixed. Recently two months ago, it broke again after a month or so's use by recently getting it which it sucks. I wouldn't want to use hp product again. It was an affordable college laptop use. I do use this laptop surface pro 7 for school purposes and for daily use however I also use my Asus laptop (old one) from 2014 or so for my daily use as surface pro 7 is intend for school purposes. Im sorry if I do not make sense heh. I have been wanting the Macbook for a long time as I have an iPhone however I prefer windows as I am a windows user. After hearing reviews of surface laptop 3, im concerned that it would break because it is thin? My hp laptop was a thin and lightweight that it broke easily unfortunately but it is not solid metal. More like a plastic feel. My Asus is thick and old plus it is bulky but it still runs good to this day however the software became slow compared to hp. What do u suggest? Do u think I should just look into chromebook instead or other hp laptops that are more solid? I would like to use it for daily use.
First, everything you said made sense. If I understand correctly the Surface Pro 7 is pretty much your main daily, but your ASUS at times can also serve as your daily, just not for school. A few things I want a to note from what you said: 1. "I have been wanting the Macbook for a long time as I have an iPhone however I prefer windows as I am a windows user." - You have a piece of you that wants the MacBook, why not give a try despite being Windows. It may take a day or two to get adjusted, but macOS is a great operating system. Paired with an iPhone it's a great experience, but I completely understand if enjoy Windows more. 2. "My hp laptop was a thin and lightweight that it broke easily unfortunately..." - It sounds like you value thin and light, which both the MacBook Air and Chromebook. The build quality of Air is superior than majority of Chromebooks. 3. I do not have much experience with HP laptops other than from my work, and they are great machine, but being a heavy Apple user and easier in terms of programming, I prefer the MacBook lineup. If returns aren't that big of a deal, give the Air a TRY, and if you don't like it, return it and resume on your path of Windows laptops. Chromebooks are tricky to recommend because, you can't really do much outside of the browser or the Google suite. So if you need applications outside of the browser, you should stick to looking at Windows or Apple laptops. Hope this helps and feel free to reply.
If you want to use both, you can get an Apple. With Apple you can run both windows and Macos by buying parallels. Using Parallel allows you to download the lasted Windows. I would look into that if I were you if you wanted to use both. However, you cannot use both MacOS and Windows on a windows based laptop or desktop.
I'm going to be a freshman in college this fall and I'm debating on getting a MBA or a surface laptop 3. I will need a laptop that will last for 5-6 years, using it mainly for school and light gaming(league of legends). I typically have 10 tabs open watching TH-cam or Netflix. Which one would you suggest? Also currently I own an s10 but Im considering switching in a few years to apple if their bezzles get smaller.
I’ve just bought the Surface 3 in sandstone, but I can’t help but to think if the MacBook would’ve been a better choice since I have an iPhone. The reason I didn’t choose the MacBook was because I will be taking Linux classes next semester and I heard that those software programs don’t run that well on Mac.
I’m still stuck! I have both of these in mind. I do have an iPod and 1st gen Apple Watch but I have always used windows! I am looking for a laptop since I’m going back to school and I do work from home most of the time. Need something that will work fast with multiple tabs open! Soooo torn!
I would go with the Air but only because I am stuck in the ecosystem. I think the surface is a great product though. My work gave me an XPS and I really like windows for when I need to get work done.
Exactly the same! My work gave me an XPS 15 and it's a powerhouse and gave me a lot of love for Windows again. However, owning one Apple product after another, the ecosystem has me trapped, but I soon might leave...
I’m looking to upgrade my laptop I currently have a ASUs K53U. I’m looking into both the surface and MacBook laptops. I’ve never had an Apple laptop but I do have other Apple products. I have used to windows what would you recommend ? Thanks x
RedLadyBug U both products are good in their own right but objectively I would say the windows computer is an overall better buy. If you aren’t deep into Apple, go ahead with the Surface laptop, just don’t get the AMD version!
hello! I don't use any apple products (not at all in the apple ecosystem) and I am currently using a windows laptop. I heard all the good stuff about MacBook and I am thinking if I should get one. I am looking to buy a laptop for university. Is it worth it to buy a MacBook if I don't use any other apple products?
If I get the i3 and just do basic task like Microsoft word, powerpoints , web browsing, email, TH-cam. Will it last me for years maybe say 5 or 7 years ??
For those tasks, the i3 in either will be able to handle that for 5 years. 7 years could be pushing it, but I still use my MacBook Pro from 2012 in 2020, so there's always a chance.
Hi which laptop among the two would perform better if I will be using heavy excel data? Or would you recommend other laptops or maybe ipad pros or surface pro could take excel use?
iPad Pro for sure, but overall in terms of user experience, I would go for the Surface Pro. They just announced their new products so maybe the Surface Book would be your best choice!
So I want to be able to use photoshop and illustrator. So do you think a MacBook Air i5 would work smoothly with it Or should I get the surface instead?
I am also in college so I will need it for daily writing, browsing, taking notes. I currently have a hp computer and every time I use photoshop or dimension it get slow. It’s a pretty heavy and big laptop too so I wasn’t able to carry it w/ me to class. But I’m starting a business so I want to be able to use photoshop, illustrator and dimension smoothly w/ put it lagging. That’s the main reason why I want to upgrade.
Prices are higher where I live so I really would like to have your advice. Should I go for the Surface Laptop Alcantara 128GB version or take the Macbook Air 2020 i5 for $160 more?. The 256 Surface costs $300 more which I can't really afford
If you don't really need local storage, I would elect to go for the Surface Laptop 3Alcantara 128GB. If you own other Apple products (iPhone, iPad, etc.) I would go for the i5 and spend the extra money. Hope this helps.
@@DayoAworunse The only 2 things I'm worried about on the Surface Laptop is the 128GB storage which might be an issue(Im planning on using the laptop for college) and the durability of the alcantara material. I'm planning on buying my first Iphone later this year

Hi, thanks for the review. I really enjoyed it. I know it's a bit late, but I hope you will still answer my question:) I am a student and want to buy a new laptop for the basic stuff for uni. Unfortunately, I will have another semester of online classes, so I will need to use my laptop for webex etc. I was actually going for the macbook air since I was always interested in at least trying a macbook once. But then I heard about the temperature issues and the loud fan. Do you think that will be an issue ? Will I not be able to use webex? The other alternative would be a surface with only 128 gb, since it's the only Modell in my price range. Would you suggest getting that one over the macbook air with an i5 processor? Thank you so much for your hard work btw :) stay healthy
I'm always in my comments section, so no worries, especially those who need help. First what's your price range? The Air does get quite hot, but I made a MBA vs MBP video and WebEx was the coolest out of the 3 contenders ( Zoom, Skype, Webex ). That being said, the Surface Laptop will handle any video conferencing tool better than the MBA, so if that's a deciding factor for you, I wouldn't look at the MBA. My next question is what Surface is 128gb? The Surface laptop Go or the actual Surface Laptop 3?
@@DayoAworunse thank you so much for your very fast answer :) price range: around 1000 euro (I live in europe), which is about 1200 us dollar. With student discount I would be able to get the MBA i5 processor. Sadly, I will need the laptop a lot for conference online uni. We use webex, big blue button and Cisco (apparently the professors can't decide on just one!). About the surface: I haven't looked into it much yet, so I didn't even know there was a go version. I was talking about the normal surface 3, which rages ata price of 900 euro, but only with 8 ram and 128 gb ssd. If I would want more ssd (256) , that would cost another 250 euro, which is above my budget. Do you think the MBA will be able to handle the video calls this semester? I mean, I don't care much about the camera, since I hate to turn it on anyway, but i should be able to use it from time to time and also the laptop needs to handle all these video calls and screensharing stuff. Thank you so much for your reply btw:)
@@tinamisuu_2390 The MacBook Air is capable of video conferencing, but it does get hot. If you don’t intend to use your camera or screen share often I think you’ll be OK but if you have to screen share constantly then I would recommend going to the surface laptop three

Hey Dayo, I'm going into computer science this coming fall semester and I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm currently on the fence about going for the Macbook Air m1 or the Macbook Pro m1 or sticking with windows. I don't own any apple devices besides Airpods and I have gaming PC at home. Currently with student discounts the Macbooks are a fair amount cheaper and would let me get more bang for my buck in terms of specs it seems. The only thing that is preventing me from deciding is the touch screen seems like it would be great for math, if a bit awkward to use since theres a keyboard sticking out, and the windows environment. I've never used MacOS and I'm not sure how hard it will be to get used to. Thanks!
For the most part, you'll be fine getting used to macOS. Whatever machine you chose, you'll end up learning it one way or another. I would choose the M1 laptop since you already have a gaming PC which is probably already a beast. In terms of productivity and keeping it separate, macOS (at least to me) brings out much more productivity. I had a touchscreen in college the first three years, and almost never used it. This is just my personal experience though
@@DayoAworunse Wow! Thanks for your quick response. My issue with my PC at home is I find it very distracting to do hw (and of course isn't very portable). The other option which I'm weighing against it is the XPS 13 (or 15 since a 13 inch screen is incredibly small). I'm watching your review of the XPS 13/15 right now. My concern with the 13/15 is the FHD screen in comparison to the near 4k displays of the surface and macbook air. Thanks!
How is still nobody talking about the screen cracking of the surface laptop 3. So many reviews and none talk about the cracking problem that windows is looking into at the moment. Everybody says that the building quality is great and all but my SL3 was broken in 2 days without leaving the table. Think it is worth mentioning that when you recommend a laptop. this problem is so hidden that nobody thinks there is a problem at all, while laptops all over the world get cracked screens within the first few weeks. Please search this up before buying a surface laptop 3
My screen is fine, but I can't dismiss your situation of yours behind broken in 2 days by sitting on there table. Maybe Microsoft can change their supplier because it sounds like defective display units. It's been over a month and nothing has cracked, not even a hairline. Hopefully with the SL4 they fix this problem. Sorry to hear about your situation and Microsoft gave you a refund or exchange.
@Carl Miller After doing research this does seem to be a common thing with SL3. Regardless, every electronic device can have issues and every person's situation is unique. With the SL3, it just seems to be more common than other laptops.
@@DayoAworunse that is why I did not want an apple, I think it is overpriced and I didn't want the butterfly keyboard because of the unreliability. The fact that the SL3 came so close is the reason why I bought it, I did my research before buying an expensive good. I still think it that laptops that break within 2 days without any sort of pressure, cannot be sold. I love the laptop, still do, but I am just too afraid that it will break again.
@Carl Miller such a intelligent comment. I know apple has had problems as well, one of the main reasons why I didn't buy an apple. If I thought apple was perfect I had bought an apple right? But I didn't so I'm not saying apple is perfect I'm saying SL3 has a problem with the screen cracking and I'm trying to warn people and let people know that this MAY happen, does not mean it will , but I think people deserve to know that this happened to more than just me, and that this is a problem that should not occur in laptops.
Heyy. Which one do you think will do better for android coding? For applications like android studio, visual studio, Node js, Angular, python pandas, Oracle 11g using SQL server etc.
Hi Dayo, thanks for the detailed video. Quick question- when it comes to coding, which of the laptops would you recommend? Can the MacBook Air handle everyday coding/downloading coding apps?
They’re both good in their own right, but programming wise, I think the MacBook is a overall better package since it’s operating system is closer to Unix/Linux, which is good for every programmer to know
Hello.. nice video wooooow.. about MS Surface Laptop 3.. I just ordered it but I'm thinking about canceling it for a MS Surface Laptop Go.. what do you think??? I need your help seriously 😫
I am going to do my doctoral degree and I don't own any apple products, my last laptop was Windows but needs replacing as it is very old and slow. I really admire the Surface Laptop 3 but I was thinking to make a change. What would you recommend for me? edit: Please take into consideration as I would only like to spend the amount of which the laptop that I want to buy costs.
Can you clarify what you mean by what you like to spend the amount of which the laptop that I want to buy costs. I'm confused by that statement. Congrats on your doctoral degree journey too
@@DayoAworunse I want to buy a laptop that is reliable and I should be able to use for a couple of years. edit: I searched for the Macbook Air's lifespan and found out it can last for 5-8 years but the Surface Laptop 3 only lasts barely above 10 months but the quality the surface offers is tempting. However, the price should be around £1000 to £1500. Thanks, I am so happy that I am going to do my doctoral degree. Just suscribed to your TH-cam channel.
@@aklimaikram3126 well if you are taking reliability and longevity as factors, from my experience using Mac products I would almost always say go with a MacBook, reason being the software and just the overall build quality is higher than most Windows laptops
I'm thinking of getting my 1st ever macbook. Is the base macbook air good enough? Or should I upgrade to i5? I mainly use my laptop for productivity stuff, webex, and kiv simple video editing. I have ipad pro as well.
If you do screen sharing on webbed, it won't be a great time. I have a a MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro video up that shows that the fans can't cool the CPU and it's at 100.
The Macbook Air needs more air.
There's a lot of surface on the Surface Laptop.
The Surface laptop 💻 still needs a simpler, elegant, and celaner user interface, and that’s what’s missing with Windows 10 Home. I wish I could move on with Windows laptop, but I can’t. That was a great comparison man, straight to the point and unbiased
I’ve Apple Watch, iPhone, AirPods and just bought a surface laptop 3 haha.
GET THE MACBOOK AIR! Sorry for yelling, I just really hope that was your choice at the end of the day and Im enthusiastic about the M1 processors.
@@DayoAworunse I’ve seen the M1 processor isn’t compatible with every application just yet, or needing to install an extra piece of software to get something to work. I got the 2020 MBP with an intel processor. The M1 looks nice, but it’s 1st gen, so I’d be cautious.

Sathya Narayan How is the heating? Does it get hot easily?
@@supahnerdy9112 Yup. Hit right on the head. They are both really great laptops. Thanks for the sub and cheers! Here's to road to 1,000!
I agree with everything you said.

it's really nice to see a tech TH-camr reviewing entry (or almost entry level) configurations. these are the configurations that most regular consumers (at least myself) are most likely to buy. when i was doing research before buying my xps, it drove me nuts that every TH-camr was reviewing the highest end models, with an easy $800 worth of upgrades.

Hey! Really appreciate your videos, helped me a lot when deciding what new laptop to buy for Uni, ended up getting the SL3 and I really love the overall build and look, however I've noticed this issue where there seems to be this faint buzzing sound coming from the top F11 and F12 keys.

Do you think an i5 with 8 gb ram will be able to run Sims 4 and handle digital art (clip studio paint) without issues?

@@Kiara-rq4uu I do not know about sims 3 but clip studio should work fine on and core I 5 8generation laptop. 8 gigs of ram is just fine.
Which is for you the best screen? In terms of preserving your sight.. for coding. Thanks!
@@DayoAworunse Thank you. I think the Macbook screen has a lot of quality. It's like magazine paper.

Which one do you recommend for work if I have a lot of documents and I work with office 360?
They're both good, but the surface laptop provides more value.

The Air. Take photos/videos on your iPhone, AirDrop it to your MacBook Air.

Hi,
I am actually typing right now actually on my surface pro 7.
A few things I want a to note from what you said:
Thank you for sharing your thoughts:)
Of course. Thanks for tuning in!
What about the MacBook Air M1 vs Surface Laptop 3? Do you plan to review the new MacBook Air?

I'm going to be a freshman in college this fall and I'm debating on getting a MBA or a surface laptop 3. Which one would you suggest? Also currently I own an s10 but Im considering switching in a few years to apple if their bezzles get smaller.
League is playable on both but I'd go with the SL3 since the Air isn't really designed for gaming
I’ve just bought the Surface 3 in sandstone, but I can’t help but to think if the MacBook would’ve been a better choice since I have an iPhone. The reason I didn’t choose the MacBook was because I will be taking Linux classes next semester and I heard that those software programs don’t run that well on Mac.
can we connect a monitor to MS Surface 3 and use both screens? What does " no thunderbolt" mean on the surface 3?
Great video! 👍🏻
I’m still stuck! I have both of these in mind. I do have an iPod and 1st gen Apple Watch but I have always used windows! I am looking for a laptop since I’m going back to school and I do work from home most of the time. Need something that will work fast with multiple tabs open! Soooo torn!
Surface laptop 3 for sure.
Will both machines handle graphics design and video editing softwares smoothly or not ?
Depends on what you mean for graphic design. Video editing at 1080p you will be fine.
Dayo Aworunse thank you for replying and I’ll keep that in mind
Dayo Aworunse thank you 😊
Since the surface book has a little bit more powerful chip than the MacBook, do you think that the sims will run better on the surface book?
yes
Really helpfullll!!! thank youuu
No problem
Hi which laptop among the two would perform better if I will be using heavy excel data? Or would you recommend other laptops or maybe ipad pros or surface pro could take excel use?
iPad Pro for sure, but overall in terms of user experience, I would go for the Surface Pro. They just announced their new products so maybe the Surface Book would be your best choice!
both use Iris graphics right? is it the same one or a different one
Same
So I want to be able to use photoshop and illustrator.
Adobe typically works better on Windows laptops so I would get the Surface Laptop instead.
I'm planning on buying my first Iphone later this year
@@martink9529 If you can use cloud storage that would be great and the Alcantara holds up well compared to the first two generation of Surface Laptops. With that being said, since you are getting an iPhone, I would suggest completing the ecosystem and getting the i5 Air
If you don’t intend to use your camera or screen share often I think you’ll be OK but if you have to screen share constantly then I would recommend going to the surface laptop three
@@DayoAworunse thank you so much :) I don't really have to do a lot of screensharing, since I mostly have to listen to my professors talk :D so thank you :)
@@tinamisuu_2390 no problem, hope you enjoy your laptop. Stay safe!
Love this review
This is the best review I've ever seen about the surface laptop 3 but you missed the battery , so which one lasts more please ? thank you
Ghizlane Chebta I got a bit more battery life I the Air. But they’ll last you throughout the day if you don’t do anything heavy. Watching videos constantly you’ll probably 5-6 hours
I've been having serious thermal throttling with TH-cam and especially Lightroom on the surface laptop 3. Does anyone have any advice? There's a microcode in the software that prevents me from undervolting which sicks
What browser and quality are you watching TH-cam on? This is new news to me
@@DayoAworunse I used to use Chrome but now I use the new edge browser (Beta version if that makes a difference). TH-cam is usually 1080 or 1440. I've had screen flickering at higher temperatures when exporting in Lightroom.
Does the surface 3 still have the letterbox border when watching videos. My old surface 2 had that
How good are they at multitasking?
Thanks!
@@deanmenkis8037 M1 all day. I wouldn't even bat an eye at the XPS 13 with these new M1 chips.
@@DayoAworunse Okay thank you much Dayo. I subbed your channel is great and you seem like a really down to earth creator.
@Carl Miller 100% agree
They’re both good in their own right, but programming wise, I think the MacBook is a overall better package since it’s operating system is closer to Unix/Linux, which is good for every programmer to know
@@DayoAworunse Thanks for the quick response!
@@jennifer7748 No problem!
Hello.. nice video wooooow.. about MS Surface Laptop 3.. I just ordered it but I'm thinking about canceling it for a MS Surface Laptop Go.. what do you think??? I need your help seriously 😫
SL3
@@DayoAworunse Ok, thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it.
Hi! I already have the new iPad Air and and an iPhone and I’m in college, should I get the surface laptop 3?
Hope you can answer, if you buy the i7 version with 16 gb ram, can the surface laptop do programs like archicad en digital drawing systems.
I'm thinking of getting my 1st ever macbook. Is the base macbook air good enough? Or should I upgrade to i5?
I mainly use my laptop for productivity stuff, webex, and kiv simple video editing.
