      I have Ps4 slim too, but I have noticed that the fan makes a faint whirling sound, while stopping, for about 2 sec after shutting down the PS. Does your PS do the same issue?

    I'm still shocked at all the stupidity filling the comments section for this video. Measuring the temperature of the air forced out from inside the console by the exhaust fan is not an accurate measure of the core temps for the CPU and GPU. The PS4 slim could be more efficient at removing heat than the older PS4 models and the xbox one which would place more heat at the exhaust. The console is smaller so the chassis will feel warmer to the touch as heat is transferred from the circuitry to heat sinks, and then removed by the fans. The only way to know how well the PS4 Slim cools would be to measure the core temps, any other measurement is not an accurate way to assess the efficiency of the system. I don't care how hot the air is that's being shot out the back, or how hot the case gets so long as the components are kept cool.

  • @LolJolk
    @LolJolk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The reason why it's "hotter" after repaste is because it's more efficient at transferring heat. While the heatsink increases in temperature, the actual die will be cooler as it's more efficient in transferring heat, resulting in lower noise. This is not the correct way to measure the temperature of course. It should be done only in Celsius and the die needs to be measured with a thermal probe on the back of the PCB (still a bit inaccurate). Obviously this is an old video and an old
    TronicsFix, so can't blame too much.

  • @ogyct

    The higher temperature on blown out air from console is better, it means, more heat is conducted from APU to the air.

    One test I did, when I brought my ps4 slim first time was played online Foxtel for 48hrs. Ps4 stayed warm and yes little heat at the bottom of the console but it never overheated. 2nd test was full day GAME play on Saturday from 8am to 12am midnight - 18hrs. Never overheated. Other then that, console turned out pretty awesome.

  • @FabergeApple

    I think its obvious that changing the thermal compound makes a difference. The Temperature increase shows a higher efficiency of heat transfer also the lower Db and lower Wattage show the fan spinning slower and drawing less power. Does anyone think this is plausible????

    • @Kolgrim1988
      @Kolgrim1988 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it absolutely is, more heat on the exhaust in this case is a good sign, and fan is not full blast which means core temps are decreased.

    just throwing this out there,which this is mainly common sense,the best way to reduce the heat of your console is making sure it's in a cool open space,well clear of other heat producing electronics.2.you'll want either a stand to elevate it horizontally or a vertical stand,optimally with a fan built into it.placing it flat tends to heat the surface area,in effect,creating ambient heat.3.have a fan on the back to pull out the excess heat,preferably one that doesn't need to be plugged directly into the power supply.those tend to,over time,burn out either your power supply or your motherboard.trust me on that one,I've had to replace both in prior consoles more than a few times.simple solutions and also cost effective

    • @dragonalchemy6802
      @dragonalchemy6802 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a fan could help, but doesn't do much in pulling heat out of the system. The best thing you could do is replace the thermal paste..of course it wouldn't hurt having a fan in general..

    My PS4 slim gets worryingly hot in rest mode. It's just as hot as if it's playing a AAA video game and it's like this for hours (I have 1.5Mb of internet). My old Xbox One didn't get as hot as it while playing games and it always returned to cold when in instant on mode. Most of the Xbox One is designed poorly IMO, however in this case the cooling of the PlayStation is a much bigger oversight. An oversight that may make me return my PS4.

The S came in at 58 during gameplay of that need for speed game so unless sony stuck with 28nm on the slim vs the 14nm on the S then I can't believe there'd be that much difference between using the same games. That's pretty interesting actually, I also noticed that the PS4 Slim hasn't been updated to Version 4.00 yet. I'd like to let everyone know that there's a hidden feature of the PS4 Firmware for all models that effects the fans.
    Basically, instead of being on full force constantly during gameplay, they will only ramp up depending on how far the APU is being pushed. I noticed playing something like LittleBigPlanet 3, the fans would kick on the moment I started creating or editing, and also If I zoomed into an area that had a lot of dynamic elements to it.
    The moment I zoomed out or moved to areas where the physics don't apply, the fans returned to Idle speeds. It's pretty impressive and I'm surprised they didn't mention it in the release notes.

      alecxi camacho You will eventually stop worrying about the temperature and enjoy your games, I assume that you just bought it. But the system is made in a way to control the temp. BUT if you really want to keep it a little bit cooler, you just have to put 4 rubbers at every corner to keep it a little bit higher from the surface.

    After 3 years my sims thermal paste was dry as a bone and they missed a few thermal pads as well, I re-pasted and replaced the thermal pads with K5 Pro and it’s running a lot better now it blow like a hair dryer now before it blew cool air, mines way way above 55C it feels around 90-100Cish blowing out of mine

    My PS4 slim (bought a week and a half ago) gets very warm to the touch at the bottom and the top of the unit, specifically the top right-hand corner, when placed horizontally. I have also noticed that the table unit that it's placed on also gets warm to the touch as a direct consequence of having the PS4 Slim on top of it, thermal conduction and all that. I hasten to add that I'm also referring to the bottom of the table unit that the PS4 slim is placed on, and it's 2cm thick!
    So in making something aesthetically pleasing, albeit relative to the individual, Sony seems to have overlooked heating issues. Very disconcerting.

    My PS4 Slim is in a very dust-free environment and it is 9 months old... but It gets very hot from the bottom and especially the glass on which it stands is really hot, i don't have numbers and it is not painfully to touch... is this normal?
    It has never shutdown, not even after 6 hours of gaming and the fan is quit most of the time, only in graphical intense gameplay moments like cutscenes in The Witcher 3 the fan is kicking in.

    The Xbox One S is a great console. Mine never gets hot the fan only blows slightly warm air even if it's on for 12 hours straight. I've had my ps4 since launch & it don't seem to get too hot but far warmer air comes out of it. I was curious about the PS4 slim & I'm a bit surprised that sony has let microsoft beat them on this front with the XB1 S. I remember the original 360 was like a space heater & it had an external power supply but those 90nm chips vs the 14 or 16nm on the S makes huge difference of course. Microsoft got it right with the S it & if you see tear down vids I love the modular designed components which makes replacing parts far easier when these things get old. The hard drive being keyed to the console is the big weak spot though because once it goes the console loses it's operating system from the way I understand it & don't matter if you have an external drive plugged up or not the file system is on the primary drive always. If this is in fact the case then the hdd life is the consoles life so it doesn't so much matter how well or easy to replace the other components are.

    their is a problem with your test the first ones were done on the table the second set were taken with it sitting on a box the table has less heat dissipation ans more sound amplification then the box so in the second set you should have noticeably lower numbers even without anything being done to the console

    Changing the thermal paste actually helped if u think about it. how? Ps4's cpu is gonna generate the same amount of heat anyway, so after changing paste the the blow out air got hotter mean the cpu is spreading the heat better. So after thermal paste replacment Cpu is gonna be less hot means the motherboard is gonna be less hot means those component gonna last longer.

    Is it just me or my PS4 Slim is getting hotter for the first 30 mins? I just brought mine today and is getting hot. Even hotter then my PS3 Slim. I am getting worried. Does that mean it will overheat? I seperate with my other PS console for like 10 cm apart to avoid overheating. I have warranty until next year. I don't want to waste my $600 just because of heat.

      Kirby Molina I guess so but you can still feel the heat. As long as you have warranty that's fine. Is this console still overheating or has Sony addressed it and fixed it? So far all I've read is its overheating issues from fairly reliable sources , but nothing addressing that it has been resolved. I bought the PS4 Pro on launch day , and since then up until last weekend I've had to return 3 of them do to numerous problems. Does Sony have a working console out right now or what??? I was thinking of switching over to Xbox in complete frustration, but I've spent too much money on games and bought the 1 year membership, so I'd end up losing too much, so I'm stuck having to get one of these consoles.

    Wet or dry thermal paste doesn’t really make a difference. it is designed to fill the microscopic pores between the APU and heat sink so there is no air between them for better contact. Maybe you should take a class on it as many people don’t know this.
