Well I think the fact that the members had similar voices kinda helped too! Jade and Leigh Ann had similar tones that perfectly complemented perries, jesy had that special touch to mesh out their harmonies! 5th harmony had no business being in a group other than them being 5 attractive teen girls that could sing but their voices never suited one another’s
Sometimes your voice just blends well with someone else’s. It’s not something you can force. They got so lucky their voices naturally blended so well together! Of course they cultivated that and worked hard to make their harmonies so good, but it helps to have that naturally seamless ness too.
I’m a huge mixer so when I saw them at #2 I was like “whaaat? Who could be better at harmonies than the girls themselves?” Then I saw the clips of Flo and I was absolutely blown away. I need to listen to them!!
As a kpop fan, I'm glad that Mamamoo and Red Velvet enter the top, Mamamoo and Red velvet are the vocal groups that you will amaze to hear especially their Discography. And some of the groups are I love from Spice Girls to Little mix, I'm really fan of their Music and now and amazed to FLO.

I’m not sure I’d call RV one of the best vocal groups considering Wendy heavy carries them along with Seulgi adding some assistance. The rest of them are quite weak when u compare to them to groups like Mamamoo, Snsd, or even Aespa.
I tend not to comment but; I really think there needs to be a deeper dive into older r&b groups because they still have unmatched blends. Brownstone specifically, the live performance of Grapevyne (with the original lineup lol) is INSANE. they literally sound like a full choir and it’s just three girls.
Moonbyul's tone is very beatutiful and rich. IT is such a travesty that Kpop dislikes low toned girls. They deserve better. Her voice should be incorporated more esp in melodies. Her company is a fool.
ikr, i actually think what is sad is how often low toned girl voices end up being made rappers by default, like so many of them have beautiful singing voices, byul included, and their deep tones bring a lot uniqueness to the kpop scene
Leigh Anne is the glue to the harmonies in the group, she fits well with all of their voices and takes up every part high, low, middle. Jade is also flexible and fit really good with most voices. Perrie and Jesy I will say had some issues in the beginning with being heard alone in harmonizing because perrie had a really dark voice and also sang too high sometimes and Jesy had a dark voice that had a unique stylistic sound that stood out a lot sometimes but they improved and learned how to control their blending and volume. They are top of the list for sure and my personal favorites for harmonizing.

Fifth Harmony used to always sing like five separate singers instead of a group. Little Mix were my favourite, they used to take harmonies in a really interesting way, I felt like they’d go in unexpected ways and had excellent blend.
Little Mix always said their brand would be ‘togetherness’ and it shows in their harmonies. No one member of the group is trying to outshine the others. They come together for the benefit of the group and they give one another moments to shine. They have an awesome ethos as a band and really show how caring and compassion for your band mates has a positive effect all around.
You should have had an honourable mention for Chloe and Halle cause even though they're not tecnically a girl group, their harmonies are still top tier.
It's an interesting conversation how Jesy can harmonize while Camila can't. Both have a very stylized way of singing and manipulate their tones so much.

@@naledib9839 lets be honest untrained ears tend to latch onto higher harmonies more often than not. In choirs Theres a reason altos are known for "boring" parts when sopranos get fancy and dynamic solos. So thats definitley a factor in the camila vs jesy debate

Camila naturally doesn't have a good ear for harmonies and also harmonizing positions in Fifth Harmony weren't good. Camila being right in the middle makes probably the most sense but she could handle upper or lower line aswell, if she was on rather on edges of the harmony she probably wouldn't has that much problem with loudness and fitting into the harmony as she had.
For me Little Mix and Mamamoo are the queens of harmonisation. I love each one, they are my inspirations. Destiny's Child are amazing. 12:46 perfection
Moonbyul and Wheein are very similar vocally and they harmonize often. The lack of four part harmonies for Mamamoo is one of the biggest mysteries in K-Pop. Some of it has to do with Moonbyul's lack of confidence in the beginning but there is a large portion of blame to lay at the feet of the vocal arrangers at RBW.
Yes I knew Little Mix my Queens will be on top 3. They are really the standard. The Queens of live Vocals and Harmonies ♡ I do miss the vocal bond they created as 4 members though. I miss Little Mix so much.
i wish we had more videos of Red Velvet harmonizing because the one you used was from march 2015, seven months after their debut. And I’d love it if they’d harmonize in the present day for a concert or variety show so we can see their skill and how it improved
It's really a bummer to me how infrequently ReVeluv get to hear Red Velvet harmonize with each other in live vocals - something I hope we can maybe see in the future as they are continuing to come back, but even though they're my ult group, I think it's super fair to have them in the position they are here based on live vocal recordings alone. There just isn't much there! Especially if one takes into consideration the entire group as opposed to two or three members singing in harmony. Very fun also how you have gone with girl groups globally and not just kpop groups for this particular analysis! There are some really exciting and skillful harmonizers out there and they deserve the attention, for sure!
The best harmonies by Destiny's Child was when they first came out as DC4. I remember when they performed Amazing Grace and their harmonies were tight. When they broke up and became a trio they had to adapt from 4 part harmony to 3. I agree DC harmonies are underrated.
I Disagree. While DC4’s harmonies were flawless, DC3 had WAY better and more creative vocal arrangements with their harmonies and Michelle added a sultry unique flair to the blend that took their harmonies to the next level as a trio

my first time seeing mamamoo included in one of these videos! also thank you for the comment about moonbyul, i agree i think her voice ads a lot of depth to their harmonies, hopefully now that's she's been thriving as a vocalist we'll get more of her harmonising with the rest of the girls
Moonbyul has been included in more of the groups’ harmonies in their recent releases (mic on album) since she recently debuted as a vocalist this year. Listening to some of their live concerts, her voice adds a great sound to their unique mix!

you should DEFINITELY check out Citizen Queen! they do a lot of live stuff on their tiktok/fun acoustic performances and since they were originally an acapella group, each of them also have wildly different ranges/tones. vocally insane as well
i would love a dive into the evolution of sound for destiny’s child, from dc4 to dc3. i personally prefer the original lineup’s harmonies, latavia’s lows and letoya’s high harmonies are amazing! dc4 deserves so much more of a spotlight!!
Thank you for mentioning this. I saw some of DC4s harmonies the other day and was blown away. Love DC3 but we can’t forget about Latoya and Latavia chewing when they were in the group.
While they still sounded great, losing the 4th vocal to the DC harmony sound both sacrificed and gained something to the DC harmony sound. I’m sure DC3 filled it between them but the additional of the timbre of an extra person with their own unique tone does add character to a blend. DC4 was balanced by LaTavia’s dark rougher voice, the timbre of Beyoncé’s voice was enough to fill the sweeter end of the sound, with Kelly’s solid chocolate tone rounding out some of the metallics in Beyoncé’s bright tone, while Letoya was somewhere in between Beyoncé + Kelly and LaTavia so it gave DC4 a bit more character. DC3 morphed the group into a young Labelle, still amazingly talented (even more so perhaps) but ever so slightly brassy sounding.

as a kid, I was into DC, then as I've gotten older, got obsessed with little mix. and I'm happy to see there's a new talented girl group like FLO that does excellent harmonies as well
The fact DC inspired over half of the ppl on this list!!! I hope they give us another album one day! All of their voices have matured and they’re last performance together had insane harmonies!
KPOP lacks a lot in harmonies, and i think that everyone know why, kpop is all about performance, theres no space to a good dinamic, vocally, between the members, but for me the best example of harmonies in KPOP are actually LOVELYZ, its not a huge group and they already disbanded, but yeah, you can watch their videos.
I’m a huge mixer and moomoo and just recently because a bigger reveluv so seeing all them made me so happy (im also a huge fearnot so antifragile in between scenes made me happy lol)
Destiny’s Child are so great at harmonies ! I love how Beyoncé add character and style to their harmony by adding TASTEFUL and subtle riffs/runs. 8:12 I think that Beyoncé is a MASTER at blending vocals even tho she’s the lead vocalist of the group, she’s the vocal producer and arranger. And she has the best friends to sing with cause Kelly and Michelle are also very great and have a great ear 👂🏼.

@@ainahrzk7850 I think he's only familiar with mostly Pop/Mainstream groups and singers. Little Mix had a great harmony for a Pop group but in terms of quality of the harmony and arrangements plus the lead vocals none of them are touching R&B groups.
When a saw Little Mix #2 I was impressed but then I saw FLO #1 and i completely get it, yes, they're way too good for being this new. I hope they get a lot of more success!
Moonbyul actually do participate in their harmonies, but her deep voice mostly in charge of the lowest tone/register, so its not as noticable as the other members who often belts or taking higher tones in the harmony. If u heard mamamoo's radio life singing, where each of them singing with their own mic, u can hear Byul's low voice act as the bass that enhance the other girl's performance. She often do this especially with Wheein. U probably can't really hear her in a casual videos where they sing without mic, but when she has her own mic, u definitley can hear how stable her deep, low tones are, and she definitley took parts in the harmony. Every member in Mamamoo is a vocalist, after all 🙈
I found this video randomly and I'm a little disappointed with the examples given for MAMAMOO, there are a lot newer performances where Moonbyul is taking part in harmonizing.. For Red Velvet also it's the oldest clip you could have used.
Love little mix! One of my all time favorite artists, but now that they’re on hiatus I’ve also fallen in love with Flo and hope that they get all the recognition they deserve 😌

What I like about Red Velvet (My own opinion, I'm not an expert) the members have different vocal tones and they complement each others voices when harmonising and with lots of layering in their songs just pure eargasm
Big fan of Little Mix. Great Appreciation on this. And I also highly recommend an OG korean girl group : BIG MAMA, in which four of them are vocalists and they're all vocal music professor now.
I was really waiting for you to include *boys world* here 😭 their harmonies are so amazing, their voices really complement each other. But I guess they're really underrated because they're really promoted weakly and my heart aches for those talented girls 💔. Still love this video, two of last the group you mentioned are the highest calibre of what a singing group should be.
Very happy to see FLO in this video, however it's truly a crime OG3NE wasn't included in this list😵 They represented the Netherlands in Eurovision in 2017, you should absolutely check them out if you're not familiar with them!
I don't know whether it's correct or not since I'm no vocal guru, based on what I've heard Flo sound better in unison because their tones are rather similar. Meanwhile in Little Mix, Jade and Leigh-Anne have similar tones, then Perrie and Jesy have distinctive tones to their voice, when they blend together the sound they're created is unique, not the fully straight kind of sound if you know what I mean. Flo is great, but I love Little Mix harmony more.
I think the top 3 should be 3. Flo 2. DC 1. LM Flo has shown amazing harmonies, there's no denying in that. However, most of their perfomance are prerecorded performance and their real live performance (the one at the award) has shown poor harmonies, mainly due to nerves. They has shown amazing harmonies but they haven't shown live vocal consistency (yet!). Also i think you should add more complex harmonies by LM like confetti acoustic, how you doin, and the boy.
If you watch their mahalia performance which is 100% live it shows that they are consistent, like you said for their award performances nerves got to them because it was their first award show performance in front of such a huge crowd. I wouldnt hold that one performance against them because even in another performance with jimmy kimmel which also was live they were nervous but still did phenomenal.
The confetti acoustic wasnt live Edit: i wish he used the falling performance clip instead. I think its an interesting performance when looking at their harmonies.
Haven’t finished watching this vid but I knew mamamoo will be one of the best hehe. They got me into them from their immortal song’s performances. You should check out TVXQ too, when they’re still 5 members their harmonies are out of the world. Definitely one of the best harmonies in kpop boy group history.
quartet DC should've had some clips here. Their blend was God tier for a group of teenagers. I love the trio harmonies but I missed the strong alto in the harmony they had in Latavia when they were a quartet. FLO actually kinda reminds me of 90s DC and other great R&B vocal based groups. I hope those girls go far. The game's been missing a great R&B girl group for a long time. I also like Little Mix and their penchant for being creative. They were quite complex for pop group standards.
For me LITTLE MIX always wins. And of course they work non-stop don't have a proper rest and vocal rest. After their last tour you can see clearly on their instargram that they are finally enjoying their wealth. PERRIE always go to Dubai with family oh god the hotel looks amazing, while Leigh-Anne will move to Greece and Jade is also write some songs and also spend with her boyfriend.

If DC4 was on this this, they'd probably be on the top of this list. Letoya and Latavia brought their harmony on a whole new level which is difficult to find within this generation's girl groups.

I'm sorry but Camilla was annoying AF, she literally wanted to be heard more than the others and it always made me cringe how bad they blended. Normani and Dinah deserves their flowers. Beyonce I feel has an overwhelming strong, deep and loud voice and sometimes she would be over singing Kelly and Michelle so the blend was meh but still enjoyed it. Little mix are the best imo, it's nice to see Leigh Anne and jade being praised because I agree they are definitely the 2 who hold the harmonies together and lead the synchronizing to success. They have such great chemistry it's crazy.

U cant harmonize with 2, harmony is 3 and up, 2 is a fugge, a conone, diade, but not a harmony.

For me Little Mix and Mamamoo are the queens of harmonisation. I love each one, they are my inspirations. Destiny's Child are amazing. 12:46 perfection
Moonbyul and Wheein are very similar vocally and they harmonize often. The lack of four part harmonies for Mamamoo is one of the biggest mysteries in K-Pop. Some of it has to do with Moonbyul's lack of confidence in the beginning but there is a large portion of blame to lay at the feet of the vocal arrangers at RBW.
Yes I knew Little Mix my Queens will be on top 3. They are really the standard. The Queens of live Vocals and Harmonies ♡ I do miss the vocal bond they created as 4 members though. I miss Little Mix so much.

i wish we had more videos of Red Velvet harmonizing because the one you used was from march 2015, seven months after their debut. And I’d love it if they’d harmonize in the present day for a concert or variety show so we can see their skill and how it improved
It's really a bummer to me how infrequently ReVeluv get to hear Red Velvet harmonize with each other in live vocals - something I hope we can maybe see in the future as they are continuing to come back, but even though they're my ult group, I think it's super fair to have them in the position they are here based on live vocal recordings alone. There just isn't much there! Especially if one takes into consideration the entire group as opposed to two or three members singing in harmony. Very fun also how you have gone with girl groups globally and not just kpop groups for this particular analysis! There are some really exciting and skillful harmonizers out there and they deserve the attention, for sure!
The best harmonies by Destiny's Child was when they first came out as DC4. I remember when they performed Amazing Grace and their harmonies were tight. When they broke up and became a trio they had to adapt from 4 part harmony to 3. I agree DC harmonies are underrated.
I Disagree. While DC4’s harmonies were flawless, DC3 had WAY better and more creative vocal arrangements with their harmonies and Michelle added a sultry unique flair to the blend that took their harmonies to the next level as a trio

Moonbyul has been included in more of the groups’ harmonies in their recent releases (mic on album) since she recently debuted as a vocalist this year. Listening to some of their live concerts, her voice adds a great sound to their unique mix!

you should DEFINITELY check out Citizen Queen! they do a lot of live stuff on their tiktok/fun acoustic performances and since they were originally an acapella group, each of them also have wildly different ranges/tones. vocally insane as well

i would love a dive into the evolution of sound for destiny’s child, from dc4 to dc3. i personally prefer the original lineup’s harmonies, latavia’s lows and letoya’s high harmonies are amazing! dc4 deserves so much more of a spotlight!!
Thank you for mentioning this. I saw some of DC4s harmonies the other day and was blown away. Love DC3 but we can’t forget about Latoya and Latavia chewing when they were in the group.
While they still sounded great, losing the 4th vocal to the DC harmony sound both sacrificed and gained something to the DC harmony sound. I’m sure DC3 filled it between them but the additional of the timbre of an extra person with their own unique tone does add character to a blend. DC4 was balanced by LaTavia’s dark rougher voice, the timbre of Beyoncé’s voice was enough to fill the sweeter end of the sound, with Kelly’s solid chocolate tone rounding out some of the metallics in Beyoncé’s bright tone, while Letoya was somewhere in between Beyoncé + Kelly and LaTavia so it gave DC4 a bit more character. DC3 morphed the group into a young Labelle, still amazingly talented (even more so perhaps) but ever so slightly brassy sounding.
Love FLO. Then girls SING DOWN !!!! . The way they always change up their live performances and keep building is amazing. I hope they go far

KPOP lacks a lot in harmonies, and i think that everyone know why, kpop is all about performance, theres no space to a good dinamic, vocally, between the members, but for me the best example of harmonies in KPOP are actually LOVELYZ, its not a huge group and they already disbanded, but yeah, you can watch their videos.

Destiny’s Child are so great at harmonies ! I love how Beyoncé add character and style to their harmony by adding TASTEFUL and subtle riffs/runs. 8:12 I think that Beyoncé is a MASTER at blending vocals even tho she’s the lead vocalist of the group, she’s the vocal producer and arranger.
And she has the best friends to sing with cause Kelly and Michelle are also very great and have a great ear 👂🏼.

@@ainahrzk7850 I think he's only familiar with mostly Pop/Mainstream groups and singers. Little Mix had a great harmony for a Pop group but in terms of quality of the harmony and arrangements plus the lead vocals none of them are touching R&B groups.
When a saw Little Mix #2 I was impressed but then I saw FLO #1 and i completely get it, yes, they're way too good for being this new. I hope they get a lot of more success!

Moonbyul actually do participate in their harmonies, but her deep voice mostly in charge of the lowest tone/register, so its not as noticable as the other members who often belts or taking higher tones in the harmony. If u heard mamamoo's radio life singing, where each of them singing with their own mic, u can hear Byul's low voice act as the bass that enhance the other girl's performance. She often do this especially with Wheein. U probably can't really hear her in a casual videos where they sing without mic, but when she has her own mic, u definitley can hear how stable her deep, low tones are, and she definitley took parts in the harmony. Every member in Mamamoo is a vocalist, after all 🙈
I found this video randomly and I'm a little disappointed with the examples given for MAMAMOO, there are a lot newer performances where Moonbyul is taking part in harmonizing..

What I like about Red Velvet (My own opinion, I'm not an expert) the members have different vocal tones and they complement each others voices when harmonising and with lots of layering in their songs just pure eargasm
Which is why i was thrown off when he said the voices clash. In theory they should because theyre so different, but they don’t clash at all

Very happy to see FLO in this video, however it's truly a crime OG3NE wasn't included in this list😵 They represented the Netherlands in Eurovision in 2017, you should absolutely check them out if you're not familiar with them!
I don't know whether it's correct or not since I'm no vocal guru, based on what I've heard Flo sound better in unison because their tones are rather similar. Meanwhile in Little Mix, Jade and Leigh-Anne have similar tones, then Perrie and Jesy have distinctive tones to their voice, when they blend together the sound they're created is unique, not the fully straight kind of sound if you know what I mean. Flo is great, but I love Little Mix harmony more.

Flo has shown amazing harmonies, there's no denying in that. However, most of their perfomance are prerecorded performance and their real live performance (the one at the award) has shown poor harmonies, mainly due to nerves. They has shown amazing harmonies but they haven't shown live vocal consistency (yet!).
Also i think you should add more complex harmonies by LM like confetti acoustic, how you doin, and the boy.
If you watch their mahalia performance which is 100% live it shows that they are consistent, like you said for their award performances nerves got to them because it was their first award show performance in front of such a huge crowd. I wouldnt hold that one performance against them because even in another performance with jimmy kimmel which also was live they were nervous but still did phenomenal.

You should check out TVXQ too, when they’re still 5 members their harmonies are out of the world. Definitely one of the best harmonies in kpop boy group history.

quartet DC should've had some clips here. Their blend was God tier for a group of teenagers. I love the trio harmonies but I missed the strong alto in the harmony they had in Latavia when they were a quartet. FLO actually kinda reminds me of 90s DC and other great R&B vocal based groups. I hope those girls go far. The game's been missing a great R&B girl group for a long time. I also like Little Mix and their penchant for being creative. They were quite complex for pop group standards.

Hwasa is a huge Beyoncé fan! Mamamoo have used a lot of Destiny’s Child harmonies in their music! Especially in the early days.
Screaming at Fifth Harmony not even being at the bottom of this list and still the only ones who didn’t get a single good example. I feel bad for them bc they’re all so talented yet nobody ever has anything positive to say about them compared to other groups for some reason.
And no they were not the most consistent, but damn even the Spice Girls got some clips of them being half decent lol. Destiny Child’s I think could be ranked twice with each lineup. They had some amazing harmonies with LaTavia and LeToya.

If DC4 was on this this, they'd probably be on the top of this list. Letoya and Latavia brought their harmony on a whole new level which is difficult to find within this generation's girl groups.

I'm sorry but Camilla was annoying AF, she literally wanted to be heard more than the others and it always made me cringe how bad they blended. Normani and Dinah deserves their flowers. Beyonce I feel has an overwhelming strong, deep and loud voice and sometimes she would be over singing Kelly and Michelle so the blend was meh but still enjoyed it. Little mix are the best imo, it's nice to see Leigh Anne and jade being praised because I agree they are definitely the 2 who hold the harmonies together and lead the synchronizing to success. They have such great chemistry it's crazy.
