I learnt morse code a few years back and it's the best thing I've invested my time into. I even write my diary in morse code coz I had it stolen last time and it was pretty embarrassing.
I wanted to learn morse code 3 years ago. Memorized the letters visually and tested myself with audio after a month. Completely different and it felt insanely fast
I learned Morse Code using an app called "Morse Mania", it teaches you letter by letter from easiest to hardest. It starts with E "." and T "-", then M and I and so on. This is also a good method of learning it but it depends on how you want to learn stuff! Edit: how did i get so many likes!
For anyone who doesn’t know: You can do SOS very easily. Just . . . - - - . . . However, if you forget that, just flash the light or make the noise in groups of 3. Most people, especially rescue teams will recognize this as a deliberate action
can confirm, as a SAR ground team member, we look for absolutely ANYTHING intentional, you could even only make the noise once and we would still take it as a sign of life

Me and my friend learned Morse code for cheating on an exam about a year ago... We'd tap our fingers on the desk to spell out the words in code. It actually worked and we managed to communicate like 5 answers (isn't really that helpful if you didn't study lol) the teachers had no clue too.
One suggestion for learning Morse code is not remembering the dots and dashes but getting the muscle memory and learn the sound pattern then it will be much easier to learn Morse code. I learned by tapping my fingers on the table like pointer finger for dot and thumb for dash, while listening to the sound.

@TheNinja it aint that hard to remember. If it's taught and taught from a young age then people can remember. In fact you don't even need to teach everything, most people don't even know what SOS is. Yes a torch could help, but having other tools can go a long way, plus most people don't know how to make a torch.
mnemonics are nice, for memorizing things in some situations, but I _highly_ doubt it's really possible to learn Morse code to the point where you can translate 15-20wpm. That requires immediate recall that I don't believe is possible with mnemonics. They're good for a list of 5-10 things, like a grocery list. That's it.
