Amazing how this track sounds even better now than it did 50 years ago ! Like so many of Bowie's songs, they haven't aged at all...in fact, they still sound daring and original. What a genius he was.
My brother bought me a huge soft toy dog, with hair colour same as DB for my 16th birthday, immediately I named him Bowie. I’ve still got him & my 2 fav., Bowie Albums, pre- Aladdin Sane Janie
Why you never see David listed among the best songwriters is a mystery to me. I don't think he even cracked the top 100 in a recent Rolling Stone top 100 songwriters of all time. SMFH
It was almost too strange, even for the fans. We liked the music, but a lot of us couldn’t understand all the theater stuff. 😮 I mean I was only 12 but…
OMG, the everything! The writing, the singing, the playing, the studio production, the film clip - where does it end. What a piece of creativity! What a loss, who is to come next to inspire us, surprise us, astonish us and confuse us like Bowie?
This song was so ahead of its time. As a teen in the 70's hearing it Bowie gave kids the freedom's to be who we where meant to be. Thru him we held onto hope that one day someone would understand.......punk came & then we just didn't give a toss.
My uncle had this song on his record player! I was about 9 at the time and I used to play it all the time! After this song I was hooked! Legend David Bowie!!!!
It’s recorded with gritty rock and roll elements. It’s like a 70s version of a Eddie Cochran song. Just guitars, bass and drums. The toggle switch at the end is like the cherry on top.👏👏
Used to play this song whenever we'd go to the pub over 30 years ago, still love it. But more than that, can you imagine David looking at you with those eyes!! He is absolutely penetrating your soul. RIP David xx
Being 12 and having long summer days with a loud Marantz stereo and a giant box of albums, this was the one that I kept playing over and over. Really loud. I saw you watching from the stairs.
Dante Nephi Vergil Everyone in the 70’s except for Bowie was human. Bowie was a drug-addicted pansexual alien from Mars trying to show us the true meaning of love through his music.
What I like about this is the sinister element. They look like a gang. Bowie looking like an alien but maybe an evil alien? And the anchor tattoo. Mick Rock is brilliant. He knew how to get across an image and atmosphere. No need for a bunch of colored lights and stage effects. Shadows are vital. There is little mystique in modern music.
‘Mystique’ is exactly the word. Mystique is what heroes like Bowie had about them. His music, his personality and his band captivated you and blew you away in a way that no one today does anymore. Maybe we need to contact his planet and ask them to send him back once more? XD

He could always see and react to what was to come - musically and in the arts and trend scene. He invested vast amounts in the internet at its earliest stages of development and made an absolute fortune way beyond his musical incomes.
Bowies best track ever, shame shame shame nobody ever got the bollocks to play it on the radio. Gutless arseholes This track got me into him after listening to hawkwind , man, alex harvey etc, a breath of fresh air, beleive me

God I love this - my all time fave record. Takes me back to the fun, free 70s as a 15 year old (but who was lucky enough to look 20!) getting into all the discos ( no! Not called 'clubs' yet!). I love that you can hear every single instrument and they're all working their socks off: drums giving it that thumping beat: base guitar adding its magical / rhythm; lead guitar which hits new highs in emotion and Bowie's acoustic intros. Bloody marvellous! Mick Ronson was an absolute legend and orchestrated a lot of Bowie stuff later. He was such s good match for the genius of Bowie. Although I obviously love a lot of Bowie's later stuff, the original band gelled so well together and left us some pure magic, much missed.😢
I remember me and my mate John Banks dancing to this in the nightclub at the end of Eastbourne pier, we'd step from right to left with our arms as if we were playing drums, choreography at it's best! Love it, cheers Mr Bowie.

David Bowie recorded three versions of this song and to me this original is by far the best one.

How so? He was greatly appreciated at the time and was a bona-fide superstar.

The 70's were as wild as it got. Since then conservatism, political correctness and wokeism have stifled creativity more with each passing decade.

David Bowie. Grace Jones. Annie Lennox. Only 1's who could really genuinely pull off this type of aesthetic.❤️
Tilda Swinton

great guitar runs from ronson. simplicity is rich.
An orgasmic climatic beast of a song, the 4 note rundown from Ronson in the chorus (when he says "Oh Lordy"). Well quite simply "OH LORDY"!
I love that Ronson is so content.
David Bowie helped save my life; on 3 non consecutive occasions I was almost dead, and he revived me.
So under rated. Life on Mars, Ziggy, & this one, his creative peak. True talent.
