As an adult, I'm so glad that adults actually talked to me like a person when I was a kid, cause it taught me how to treat kids now. They're tiny people after all, not content boosters or objects to be exploited. I just wish adults would be more responsible online

I’m 17 and heavily agree with this video, especially as someone who grew up with unrestricted internet access and knows firsthand how dangerous the internet can be. People under the age of 13 really shouldn’t be this active in fandom spaces, especially if they aren’t mature enough to stay out of spaces that are specifically labeled as 18+. Though, there’s also the issue with the 18+ sides of fandom spaces that will go out and be the ones interacting with minors. I have my age readily available on my pages and avoid the 18+ sides of fandoms I’m in since I also just don’t like that type of content, yet so many MDNI accounts will be coming to me and interacting with my accounts on spaces like TikTok and tumblr. While minors need to stay out of 18+ spaces, it goes both ways and MDNI accounts also need to stay away from accounts they know are underaged

From my personal experience (this is specifically fanfic space), I find that it's minors who have a huge issue with respecting the boundaries of literally everyone they're interacting with. Including other minors. They seemed very resentful that any adults in the fandom space were actively trying to keep them safe from age inappropriate content because that very content was "the good, quality stuff" that we were hoarding. They felt really entitled to consume that media even though it would cause so many issues for so many people. They even tried to get adults in trouble over it. Accusing people of inappropriate behavior that was easily documented as untrue. Almost like a "if i can't view the content, then no one should be able to." Not all of them were like that (many of them were very sweet and asked fun questions that the whole community kinda bonded over answering), but those experiences were so jarring that I tend to stick to spaces that are specifically and strictly 18+ to avoid the mess
I’ve always never liked the idea of blaming the creator for having a young audience especially if that wasn’t the artist’s original intention As I believe in creative freedom and that people should be allowed to share whatever they want without caring so much about who their audience is as long as it’s labeled correctly and follows the platform’s guidelines. For instance, an artist can make along with share mature artwork of characters that’s from a children’s cartoon. As long as the character in question is grown and the art is clearly labeled correctly, and it doesn’t go against anything it’s not the artist’s responsibility if a kid sees it. While yes, a large portion of the audience will be kids and everyone is aware of that but just because the majority is kids, it doesn’t mean older people like adults don’t exist. Mature people in the community are allowed to make stuff for other mature people in the community. The minority does not have to cater to the majority if they don’t want to
Personally, I hate to say this, but a lot of kid content that is 'safe' (cocomelon or smthin for example) is actually harmful or just sucks. I cannot explain how HARD it is to find good kids content that's actually available to me. Seriously, i can't even watch the Adventure Time spinoffs because they're not on Hulu. We don't have HBO or anything that it's available on, and I don't trust Plex. Any newer content that's actually quality worth is usually for older audiences (unfortunately). But i can say the same for adult content as well. They're getting sucky shows too, and rely on kid content that have quality content for older fandom spaces. So, i think content distribution may also play a factor in this. We just can't find enough good stuff. Now peace cause uh, my brain is fried and can't write proper paragraphs for opinions or whatever i just wrote is. :')
This is gonna be pretty disjointed, but here are my two cents: I think for me it really depends on the fandom. As a 16-year-old, I will happily interact with the fandoms for Genshin Impact, Warrior Cats, Wings of Fire, Gravity Falls, and Cookie Run, to name a few. Mostly because these are non-18+ pieces of media that minors can often pretty easily enjoy without running into anything they shouldn't, so long as they're avoiding certain tags and respecting adults' boundaries. In cases like the horror media I consume, such as Creepypasta, TF2 (which isn't technically horror but Emesis Blu exists) and Dead By Daylight, I have to play it a bit safer. I mostly discuss those fandoms with people I already know and trust. This is because something having horror attributes makes for a lot less filtering and therefore less safety. Minors can still enjoy those things and make friends in those communities, but it requires more care and curation. And you simply do not touch or look for 18+ media if you are under 18. I can understand why some minors will not obey that rule, but the very bottom line if for whatever stupid reason you disobey that rule, is that you leave no trace and speak to no one about it. For everyone's safety, you were never there. If you're smart, you simply don't do it at all. That said, I do think there's a balance to be struck. Kids over 13 (the legal age to be allowed online) should steer clear of potentially dangerous situations and fandoms. On the other hand, it's also the responsibility of adults to set and enforce their boundaries online, even if it involves metaphorically chasing away kids with a broomstick and spray bottle. In situations where an adult has to talk to a kid who made an honest mistake, it is their responsibility to be firm but polite and not cruel, and in turn it's the kid's job to read the signs, take the hints, and stay away. And no, adults, you do not get to harm the minors in any way, shape, or form, regardless of the circumstance. Make your boundaries clear, block, and move on. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen grown ass adults fail to do this and instead antagonize kids who made honest mistakes. Tldr: Allowing kids in fandoms should depend on the fandom, and there is an element of mutual respect involved on both sides. Also, children are squishy and should be treated firmly but without cruelty. Everyone is responsible for their own actions.
I was pretty annoyed when my 11 year old sister told me she liked VivziePop's work but I told her it wasn't for her to watch and by the grace of whatever god she explicitly she hasn't actually ever watched it cuz she doesn't like sex jokes or swearing she just likes the art and avoids the real adult content around Hazbin or Helluva 😮💨
I'm a younger person, and i interact with the among us fandom (on discord) a ton, most of the people who'll be in it are also kids and i have a few older friends too. ...Even with those older friends, the only NSFW content ive been exposed to in that fandom was from a 12 year old!! someone who shouldn't even be on discord! im concerned about them tbh 😭
going heavily into nsfw content when you’re that young definitely points to the person trying to cope with smth. it doesn’t have to mean the worst (assault) but it could potentially mean they got exposed to that stuff through other ppl in their life and now they’re trying to adapt to that. sad situation but even that young you can’t always excuse their actions so make sure that you’re safe too. after establishing your own wellbeing you can, if you feel up to it, see if you can help the kid somehow. but ultimately, if you’re not their family or close friend then your options are getting increasingly smaller honestly if it was me i’d probably try to explain to them tactfully that they could harm people with that content and shouldn’t even be on discord in the first place. depending on how much the server means to me i would honestly report them to discord since you’re not allowed an account if you’re under 13.
Personally I think it depends. Adults shouldn’t be pursuing the minors or talking to them inappropriately even if they are in a space they shouldn’t be to begin with. If you have a 16+ or 18+ space and people under that age are in it, you need to tell them why it’s not safe. I get that parents should play a role here too but it takes a village to raise a child, we all need to pitch in to make the world safer for kids. 4:21 I’m 18 and honestly I’m still iffy on being in nsfw spaces because despite being sex positive, I don’t really feel comfortable expressing myself like that around anyone who isn’t a close friend or my girlfriend. Because I’m of the age of majority, i can’t pull the “I’m a minor” card when someone makes a sexual comment I didn’t consent to. I can try to set boundaries but it is so normalised to act like that online toward adults (along with insults of course) that I don’t even wanna have a social presence, particularly a presence where people can see what I look like. I know I’m supposed to have a thick skin but it’s hard as someone who has been a victim of SA and grooming.
While I am okay and friends with a few people who are teens. I FULLY AGREE WITH THIS POINT! I don't talk in actual spaces due to this exact reason, I feel unsafe as an adult when it seems younger people run the show or even push adults out of spaces that have been their longer, adults used to be minors... I never got why my peers say there cut off point from being 18 you HAVE TO cut off all ties to being a kid in every dam way. Why can't we all just get along enjoy the same things and NOT BE DAM CREEPS!!!!
Short answer: yes, most issues could be solved by not allowing minors in fandom spaces. But that would require parents to actually parent. Yes, this includes minors who are 13-17. You’re not adults, your parents should be watching your activities. But here’s a better alternative question. Where did all the adult fandom spaces go? A lot of major social media sites (tumblr, Deviantart, newgrounds, etc) were designed to be adult spaces.
@@YesIAmTheCreatorOfTG Well yes, but the problem is that minors ACTIVELY seek for the places that were NOT created for the in mind and then crying about it.
Minors just shouldn’t be alone in time square. Online is like the entire city of New York, you wouldn’t let 16 under in every single neighborhood. I super aggressively agree with the point that children are dangerous to adults and vice versa. But kids are super dangerous to adults especially if minors get into suggestive themes without specifying their age. (Though children also need adult role modeling and guidance m but that’s more of an in person thing. that has been disappearing for a while causing kids to go online to get friends.)
Naturally, discussion like this leads into discussion about adult fandoms regarding media targetted towards all ages, including minors. I personally think that it is complicated, for while this kind of media shouldn't be so accessible to minors, so many go out of their way to say that it shouldn't be made at all, not even by those of age. And I cannot help but disagree.
Personally, I think that if the material itself is for minors it's the adults responsibility to post that content on a site for *adults* or at the very least have a warning on your account or in the description to say 'hey, kids aren't meant to watch this' but if the material itself is 18+ then it's *not* the adults responsibility to make sure kids don't see it. (As long as it's following the site's TOS.) But I do NOT think that 18+ accounts should be interacting with underage people or people with no age on their account. 'Do not interact if you're under 18' goes both ways with the creator and the viewer. Creators shouldn't be interacting with the minors or replying to them.
Personally, i am thirteen years old, and i am very mature for my age. I do NOT EVER go into nsfw spaces. I only go into spaces where people online are my age. There should be an age limit for certain things. I am a furry my ownself, so i tend to steer clear of spaces where the majority is adults.
I think parents should better monitor where and who their children are talking to, of course not everyone is perfect, but making an effort to protect your children from places they shouldn't be in in the first place is always better than nothing. ALL HAIL POSSUM THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS 💥💥 💥‼️‼️🗣️🗣️
And additionally, if they are in spaces they shouldn't be, calmly talk to their child about it and resolve the issue without making your child hate you even if you are right
THATS WHAT IM SAYING!! Growing up I was monitored, but with age I was allowed to explore more! It isn't a death sentence for younger kids who are just explained to as to why the parent is doing it, 9/10 they'll understand, especially if they're 12-14
PREACH!!!!! As a now adult who used to be a kid who watched saints row and stuff with monitored computer, I know you can't stop them from finding it if they are looking... which is the sad part about trying to protect anyone...
im freshly 18 and without even watching the video im gonna say yeah i agree. the internet isnt a place for kids. i was raised online and while i love the internet and wouldnt change my upbringing, it wasnt safe and it wasnt okay. fandom spaces are a shit show no matter what though i fear. i like ur weird possum critter btw. bro is Fucked up i support
if i am honest i used to hangout with minors or talk to them but it was awful because these people who would it expect it to young to go around also back then 6 years ago my preference was always hanging out with adults or people who are around my age or older than me
personally, it's only a problem if the minor is like 5-13 years old. Kids shouldn't be on the internet unless they have a parent watching over them and controlling how they use it. But if it's a teenager, it's no longer the minor's problem but the adults on that fandom's
5:00 CANCELED!!! Because we as a society should be going after small creators instead of actually problematic people with a big audience! (jk) In all seriousness, the iffy part comes when there's a media with a large age range of fans. Take Tally Hall, for example. Their songs deal with serious topics such as abuse ("Cannibal"), religion ("Never Meant to Know"), depression ("Hymnn for a Scarecrow"), Political Corruption ("The Whole World and You"), Cheating ("Greener"), Stalking ("Two Wuv"), and "Banana Man" could be interpreted as a drug addiction, if you read between the lines enough, but all of the songs above you have to analyze the lyrics for the meanings, plus they have silly, nonsensical songs like "Good Day" and "Welcome to Tally Hall." Because of this, there are going to be communities that are meant for older audiences that understand the underlying meanings, and communitites for younger fans that just like the music or people who just don't want to think to hard about their favorite artist. Tally Hall is probably a bad example, but it's the first thing that came to mind. A good stand in would be maybe the furry community or horror games? Lemon Demon is another good one, I belive his early stuff was pretty edgy. Edit: ROBLOX voice chat allows swearing for 18+, but a LOOOOT of people on there are sound under the age of 8. But they do allow 13+ on VC.
This is a touchy topic but ima be so serious right now. I think we should protect kids from spaces like that, doing our best to keep those places very clearly clarified that it’s for adults. I think that at the very least noting that your account is +18 AND blocking minors that try to follow you when you’re able is the best thing you can do. That being said, if you’re a minor 15-17 you should know better than to enter spaces that aren’t for you. Preteens and younger are not applicable to this, since kids make mistakes. But nowadays, I really think people need to realize that 15-17 yros are not stupid. Anything grooming related is also not applied to this because from that moment on its on the adult, like c’mon. But this age group specifically; YALL AREN’T LITTLE KIDS. You have enough brains to think “should I enter/interact with this acc knowing that their content isn’t for me?” And hey, literally no one is/should hate you for blocking nsfw content! You guys can do it I promise, it’s not hard. Whatever you plan to do after you’re +18, that’s up to you. No one is going to stop you, I promise you that. Bottom line is 15-17 yros are not like children bro, just because they’re minors, it doesn’t mean they don’t have comprehension skills or don’t feel any kind of sexual feeling ever lmfao. Keep your suggestive art away from them and if they still make an effort to enter those spaces, then yeah. They’re the problem(not as a group). And before I get a reply about “what if we didn’t know that it was an nsfw account” hey buddy? I’m not talking about you. You are completely in the right to get upset if you’re not comfortable with that stuff.
Im 20 now but when i was under 15 i DEFINITELY went into fandom spaces i shouldn’t have, even when they had warnings. I knew i shouldn’t but i also didn’t care or think it applied to me, which is how i feel a lot of minors think. We can’t expect kids to stay out of these easily accessible spaces honestly even if its unfortunate. Unfortunately theres not much the average person can do aside from marking nsfw art and combing through your following to block minors imo. Of course parents and adults online should make the effort to keep kids safe. I remember being a kid in the furry fandom and having beef with 30+ year olds or having nsfw art just freely shared in servers. Everyone has some responsibility honestly
In my personal experience, it a case of it depends, in some communities its ok or fine, but others it a big hell no. Like the furry fandom, its a 100% +18 plus thing or in rare cases (if you dont dig too deep) +13. It is all just a, depends on what. And yet some Fandoms LET MINORS IN ANYWAY. Yeppie :D
Hey, I tried joining your server, but it says the link is expired or invalid. I’m not sure how long I need to be subscribed to you for, but I’m interested in joining the art raffle.^^
For me I think it's a solid half anf half, and definetely not because of malicious intent on the minors end, but I do think minors unintentionally interact with spaces that are above their age ranges and it results in a lot more negative results than positive because of it
This is actually the worst video on the topic I've ever seen, you try to act like you have a nuanced opinion but it's about as shallow as my cats water bowl
I dont think I hace a nuanced opinion, I just know I've seen it/experienced it myself and with others around me and I've seen minors get hurt because of it
@@DoughBoy_Silly and yet you try to play this weird centrist card of "well the minors are the problem but only 50%" instead of considering the fact they have had all their child friendly spaces ripped away from them and none of them are being properly monitored online at all. The issue isn't the children, it's the parents who expect an ipad to do all the work for them and the companies that keep taking away kid friendly spaces online And you know what? It's our fault too. Adults continue to push the boundaries of "sfw" and we unknowingly condition these kids to think certain behaviours are ok at their age, WE put them in danger more and more
@@DecayedEmber we use shallow ones because there's multiple around the house, one in each room they go in, this because of the heat and the fact that they're very energetic cats who often knock the bowls over and spill them. The water is refilled as necessary and fully changed out in the evenings and mornings regardless of how much is left. With a toddler around having the fountain would be a disaster, but it's something l've looked into. Really, as long as you change the water regularly, don't have it too close to their food, and keep it topped up, it's not an issue. I know this was supposed to be some kinda gotcha but i don't care for it
its actually a really good thing for server owners because you can bump your server and get it to the top of recommended every two hours, others like discadia aren't really worth it in my opinion
The thing is that adult only spaces are being overrun with children too that say this adult content shouldn’t exist. I have a NSFW account and my display there is sth like 🔞🔞name - minors dni 🔞🔞 and the amount of dms I used to get about it is…bro it is a nsfw account IM NOT responsible you chose to completely ignore that. One time I posted a joke that got a bunch more traction than my usual post and the amount of people messaging me about my account being wrong was ridiculous. One quote rt with “ugh checked their account it is filled with nsfw maybe it’s my fault I didn’t see their name but I’m a minor and I’m uncomfortable and this content is disgusting” THE DELUSION. I had to delete a bunch of ao3 comments from a fanfic asking if I had experienced csa and it’s only valid if I was working through the trauma because kids can see it and you know let’s not even unpack that, we should throw away the whole suitcase

@@YesIAmTheCreatorOfTG Well yes, but the problem is that minors ACTIVELY seek for the places that were NOT created for the in mind and then crying about it.
Art raffle, when discussing such a topic? Fascinating lol. 0:16 I'm entering
Haha gotta say it somewhere!
I'll pop you name in the raffle
@@DoughBoy_Silly haha! Awesome!
Off topic but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a possum fursona before. Or at least one as detailed as yours
yeah they're for sure an uncommon species of fursona!
I’ve entered :D (love ur stuff btw)
Ty! Adding your name 💕
Personally, I think that if the material itself is for minors it's the adults responsibility to post that content on a site for *adults* or at the very least have a warning on your account or in the description to say 'hey, kids aren't meant to watch this'
but if the material itself is 18+ then it's *not* the adults responsibility to make sure kids don't see it. (As long as it's following the site's TOS.)
But I do NOT think that 18+ accounts should be interacting with underage people or people with no age on their account.
I am a furry my ownself, so i tend to steer clear of spaces where the majority is adults.
im not even a soyteen but I can say this video is the deepest darkest brimstone
Haha thank you!
if i am honest i used to hangout with minors or talk to them but it was awful because these people who would it expect it to young to go around also back then 6 years ago my preference was always hanging out with adults or people who are around my age or older than me
personally, it's only a problem if the minor is like 5-13 years old. Kids shouldn't be on the internet unless they have a parent watching over them and controlling how they use it. But if it's a teenager, it's no longer the minor's problem but the adults on that fandom's
also it depends on what we're talking about. Some fandoms need to be 16+ or 18+
@Rockz.theGOAT yeah
5:00 CANCELED!!! Because we as a society should be going after small creators instead of actually problematic people with a big audience! (jk)
In all seriousness, the iffy part comes when there's a media with a large age range of fans.
You have no idea how startled I was to be reading this and see Tally Hall get brought up lmao-
Very good point
So proud to say I've never lied about my age
REAL.
This is my mindset too when it comes to people underage, you can't stop them... It so easy to ignore the signs and then say there where none.
Yeppie :D

The issue isn't the children, it's the parents who expect an ipad to do all the work for them and the companies that keep taking away kid friendly spaces online
And you know what? It's our fault too. Adults continue to push the boundaries of "sfw" and we unknowingly condition these kids to think certain behaviours are ok at their age, WE put them in danger more and more
I think you might wanna get your cat a bigger water bowl! Cats like fresh water! ^^ My suggestion is getting one of those little fountains for them :3
@@DecayedEmber we use shallow ones because there's multiple around the house, one in each room they go in, this because of the heat and the fact that they're very energetic cats who often knock the bowls over and spill them.

Are Minors The Problem? yes, always going in to adult spaces
it's not their fault that they wanna be apart of your guy's furry fantasies.
It sortve is though to an extent, if a minor wants to secretly infiltrate a nsfw group, it isnt that groups fault, its the minors
