Hi please I need help, I want to buy the holder you used to attach the monitor to the c-stand , but I want to use it for my second camera, but I don't know what it is called. Thank you
02:14 I came to TH-cam because my overhead shot looked like the left and I thought it was bad and started looking how to fix it. So, you are saying left is good?
Good question. "House Lights" is what the shot looks like with just the fluorescents on in our studio. You can see there are some multi-shadows casted by the hands. The "Final Look" is with the 120D II and Light Dome. The difference is subtle in this instance but the final look looks a little more clean.
Hello, thank you for your video setup. I would like to create videos for children with overhead and 45 degrees shot. I'm literally going mad trying not to have shadows on the desk. Could you recommend me lights and stands that are not very expensive to buy to solve the problem and how to setup them?
LOVE this - straight forward, yet detailed - and simple to understand. A hair light would be amazing to add as well to make you stand off the background even more. Nice work!
Best overhead shot I've ever seen was actually at a Utah Jazz basketball game! It was at tip-off, a camera was in the jumbotron, pedestal down while rolling at the same time. Coolest thing I've ever seen!!!
i just love the overhead shot .. when u r saying which is ur fav overhead shot.. and i love the shot in the movie Titanic. the last pov shot of jack & rose, when the titanic sank(final moment)...when they r looking a the ship goung below...no option, but to face death.
I really love the overhead shot from Leon. When Stansfield took a pill (around 23:27) camera angle changed to an overhead shot. It was really nice and interesting.
*Not gonna Lie I didn't even know THIS video existed and NOW that I do, I'm saving this as I have the Amaran 60D with the Aputure 45 x45 Softbox and I wanted to learn how to light something like this as I'm starting to Table Top Videos. This Video was VERY helpful and I LOVE your Products I STILL own my Amaran 60D and it works AMAZING in my Small room*
i think it was done on Kingdom but not sure where the character is alone surrounded by bits of fire everywhere and then a lot of enemies comes towards him while the camera come to eye level. That shot is amazing
When Peter Mckinnon does his product photography. Looks very nice. Also Becki from Becki and Chris she did one recently what distracts her and the pictures looks amazing.
do you turn off room lights? I struggle with shadows. I'm using my iPhone for the time being and still trying to figure out the right set up for filming myself working on my art which is flat on a table. Also struggling with shadows when trying to film when I work om my art set on an easel upright. shadows from then phone itself , my hands and body while working is the biggest frustration.
What about for those of us who're on a budget though? Would a few ring lights from multiple angles (except near the desk mount while holds our phone cameras - which we use to shoot video), illuminate the product enough (let's say it's flat on the desk like a book or a deck of gaming cards), and minimise shadow? Thank you in advance :)
I love the top down shots in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" when he's embarking on his mission and they have the text from the Life Magazine motto added in various places.
There are so many great overhead shots in movies. I really love the opening one to The Untouchables, when DeNiro is getting a shave, or the one at the end of Taxi Driver after he kills all the pimps, and decides to take a nap on the couch. Also really love a lot of the ones they do in the John Wick movies, when he drives his car through the city. And to close off this extremely long comment, I also really like the one in The Usual supects, when they hijack the police uber service vehicle. Love your guys vids, you've helped me learn pretty much all I know about lighting and cinematography.
I really enjoyed this overhead camera rig set up. I have been thinking about doing some overhead shots for my channel. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day. Fully watch video. 👍
Love the overhead shots of Javier Bardem's intro scene in No Country for Old Men.

I love it how True Detective sometimes used Overhead to put more drama in the shot Except they were not minding using harsh shadows to put even more drama
Yeah it's interesting how a different angle can add something to a scene. I don't know why the overhead angle is so dramatic sometimes but it really is
The Game of Thrones scene where they showed Jon Snow coming back to life is probably of my favorite overhead shots in TV. The composition and moody lighting combined with the necessary camera movement made you feel something that was appropriate for that scene.
The best Overhead Shot is the Scorsese shot from Film Riot's, A Very Film Riot Christmas Special! entitled, "What If Martin Scorsese Directed a Christmas Movie ". Hot buttered, cinematic, yumminess!

What level of brighness is the 120DII set and what lens you use for overhead? When I set up like this (with lens even closer to the desk) for my wife’s online classes book on the table was too dark and she was too bright. ;/
The 120D II was at about 60% I believe. The lens was a 35mm. If the table was darker than her hands, you could try using a lighter color for the table surface. You could also use a net or something to cut the light on the top half of the dome, so it's not as bright on the subject and there's more light on the table.

@@aputurelighting thanks for the reply. Actually its funny because we have oak table with the same texture like the second wood table you showed! (one with the field notes) Exactly the same! :) Now wondering how should i mount my camera on the same Manfrotto autopole i mounted 120D II. Wish i had the knowledge how to do that :/ thanks for the tip with the net. Will take it off from the bottom part and clip it with office clips :) in the middle line.
The best Overhead ever scene might not be popular pic, cause it's a violent one. But it's the one that had the most impact on me since I was young. Scarface Movie, end scene He's laying in Pool of Blood with the a statue that says "World Is Yours" It wasnt as extreme overhead as most commercials. But to see him laying dead with the statue and assassin walking down the stairs looking I was like wow. That is the most impactful overhead view I can remember even gives me goosebumps thinking about it. But I'm sure there's better commercial overhead views. But Scarface movie is the only one that left an Impact. 👊👍
Please help! I do overhead repair videos that need to be well lit. I'm having a hard time lighting enough to see everything w/o eliminating color depth.
It's really quick but there's an amazing overhead shot in The Raid 2 Berandal where you get an overhead view of Rama fighting off guys inside the car he's being kept in
There's a great overhead battle shot in the tv series "The Outpost" impressively shot on a large jib. Had the pleasure of being on set to see that magic.
Easily the over head shot from The Fellowship of the Ring, where Frodo is on his back and you see the ring slowly fall onto his finger and then he disappears.
My favourite top down shot is not a shot, it's multiple of the shot that are used consistently in drawing videos, it's very hard to light that type of shot and I have been struggling to get it right without proper lighting. Hopefully I win and can get the light to neutralize shadow
Although I am not a huge fan of Peter Walbeck, his team's recent tutorial on the spinning laptop had some really great info on keeping consistency through shots. For big motion picture stuff... probably any of the crazy scenes in LaLa Land.
It's kinda usefull to use a slider for the overhead shots :) ... and for a cool overhead shot - I don't know if it counts as the overhead, but the bed scene with falling rose petals in the American Beauty is really nice.
I would like to see a recommendation what kind of gear you used here - so that people (like me) that have done that before know what to buy :) so far great Video
My favorite overhead shot was from unbreakable. The camera rotates as a young Mr. Glass looks at a comic for the first time indicating a shift in perspective for the character th-cam.com/video/RaFuTsUz0Hg/w-d-xo.html starts at 3:05
@@aputurelighting Exactly, to me it gets hard to notice due to the generalized use he gives to the angle, which I kind of like, It makes me more involved and then I can look afterwords with more focus for the details.

What type of table is that? Dimensions of the table? And how many feet above from the table is the camera?
Whats the name of that clamp you used to attach the screen (the clamp at 0:56)?
King of overhead shots, EXCESSORIZE ME.
Which is better for overhead shots - the aputure light dome or the lantern?

What do you do if you can't turn off the ceiling light? Can something like a ring light around the camera help?

The overhead shots that Becki and Chris do are always fantastic
Good Will Hunting - Brief, but great overhead shot in the scene in Robin William's character's office when he talks about how he met his wife

Tarantino's overhead shots are great!
I really love the overhead shot from Leon. When Stansfield took a pill (around 23:27) camera angle changed to an overhead shot. It was really nice and interesting.
That's a great example of how an overhead shot can provide a unique angle that changes the mood of a scene. Great pick!
Curtis Judd and Gerald Undone consistently have great overhead shots in their videos 👍🏼

I love the Deadpool overhead scene when he is drawing on the side of a bridge waiting to drop on the bad guys car.
So funny yet scary.
All of MKBHD's videos use the overhead shot very creatively.

Yea, The Taxi Driver shot is perfect.
Also the John Wick Bridge driving shot frome the first movie.
Why you lit the opposite side with a bounced light from hr 672, instead of using the bounced light from the key light with foam board
Nothing beats a Wes Anderson overhead shot I'm sorry!

the opening shot of One Plus 6 phone, the overhead shot was really good
