Question of the Day ⚡ Which type of videos do you make on your channel? Let us know! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼** 🔴 Check out the Arkon Overhead Camera Mount HERE ➡️ amzn.to/3grJyaw
I just uploaded an Overhead camera setup video! Not normally the stuff I upload, but it's something that has made my process so much easier now for top down shots!!
the overhead camera mount you reference is not currently available on Amazon. Do you have another suggestion? Possibly less expensive as I am on a budget?
Hi my channel is all about boardgames and my other hobby but I focus on boardgames. I usually do unboxing , how to play and I usually do Top down shot. This video give me idea how to do my top down shot and planning to upgrade.
Building a TH-cam a channel in 2021 is gonna be difficult. You're gonna fail, post videos that get no views, and you'll be slow to get subscribers. However, the biggest mistake you can make is quitting. If you stay consistent, if you work hard, and if you put our quality content, you'll have no choice but to grow. Let's smash out 2021, yeah? 💪🏻
I find the "I don't give a FK" method works pretty well. I don't care how big my channel is now or ever, I make videos because I enjoy doing so. Every week I keep getting more subscribers to my little sh#t show using this I don't care method lol.... Cheers 🍻.
@@Finite-Tuning Bro, I completely agree! My journey started off being scared of what to upload and I felt so lost. One day, I decided to just make any videos I wanted it and that's when my channel started to take off!
better off jerry-ringing one when it has supports on left and right so you dont have to deal with a bar in front of you or having to flip the video 180 degrees because you have the camera recording wrong way round.
argh, the thing that drives me crazy about these videos is no one every talks about camera and lenses. I don't need 1000 videos showing me how to mount a camera or a light. I need a video that shows which camera to use, sensor size, focal lengths, lens options, etc.
I dont recommend any tripods that are adjusted on the same table you work on. When the table shakes, everything else shakes too. I have a very stable table, but still whenever I switch pens, that little movement makes the table shake... I prefer having the tripod or holder or whatever one is using adjusted on something close to the table.
Great setup for an overhead rig. But sometimes, with a desk setup like that, a little vibration from the table will shake the camera.. so if you're doing unboxing videos, keep that in mind.. another alternative is having a boom arm attached to a lighstand.. its out of the way and it's not attached to the desk. That's what I did with my videos. Pretty easy and it's under $100. Check it out if you're interested...
@@AndyThePyro right? I mean I think its pretty cool since you can have a secondary camera at the bottom or an external monitor.. but attaching the mount on the desk can be tricky since it'll vibrate
Yeah... I wish this didn't require clamping to a table. I considered a light stand for overhead and was looking at c-stands but never sorted out the best approach -- seemed like overkill for cellphone recording.
Well good thinking. I was actually looking for something like this like an arm but like you said, vibrations can mess it up so I think I just need something to come out of a side stand or something. Currently I use my tripod for unboxing videos and it does get in the way
How do you turn the picture around when recording across from the camera set-up? The way it's set up, if you sit across from it, doesn't it record what your doing from an upside down perspective?
That's always my question. I can do it with my software but I'm always worried that the videos will look weird. And I can't seem to find anyone online who can answer this question.
I have an Arkon mount & I use the handy dandy iPad attachment on the vertical pole so I can use it to pull up Facebook live and see the comments while broadcasting the live through the overhead phone/camera on the horizontal pole.🙌
One thing that you didn't mention is that the camera will always be shaking because it's attached to the table and everytime you put your hands or something on table, it will shake.
If this doesn't suit, then try the Glide Gear, overheard extension arm. $70 in the US and £50 in the UK. Just add it to an existing tripod and balance it. I balanced it with 2 bottles of water in a bag. Took some great overhead photos, my profile picture is the picture.
I would go C-stand instead. Cheaper and way more sturdy and versatile. As a BeatMaker who uses drum machines and keyboards this type of setup shakes depending upon the type desk you use. Great vid as usual!
If you want an alternative, you can setup a boom arm extension on top of a lighstand.. the whole setup is under $100.. you can check how I did mine on my channel if you're interested..
i have similar mount, but that shacks the table, while unboxing or making video, and that shacks effect your video recording. How you are managing the table shocks?
Curious on your thoughts around the type of table that’s best for this kind of set up. I feel like something to light is going to cause shaking when you’re moving a product around on the table.
Hello. I thought I asked this question before, but I guess I neglected to hit the comment button. I am trying to film in my very small kitchen. I have a tripod which is quite heavy duty. I cannot connect anything to the counter top which is actually a stainless steel counter height table on wheels; reason being is that the camera will shake from any activity done on the counter, like using the stand mixer. I can't afford an expensive setup atm, so I am wondering what would I need to convert the tripod into a stable overhead camera rig? Thanks!
The problem with this setup is that any table vibrations will translate directly to camera shake. In my view if you are filming something top down where there is movement/motion (i.e. drawing), you'd probably be better off with a c-stand counterweighted with a sandbag, keeping the whole rig away from the table. At least that's what I've been doing.
You could also clamp it to a small shelf mounted to the wall behind your station, like some streamers do with mic boom arms behind their monitors to eliminate audio vibrations.
We just started doing live streaming food demos and could use this mount. It looks like it is currently unavailable as of Aug 19. I will check that link again in a couple of days.
Ah! I just got the Manfrotto 244 articulating arm to use as a desk mount/ tripod for my camera, and also to use for top down shots. It's a wee bit too short for top-down shots, so wish this video came out sooner!
This is a nice option but currently, I am using a Ulanzi-Uurig Table Top Rig. It has one base pole (around 3 feet high) with 3 arms: 1 arm has 3 segments that has a 1/4" mount 1 arm has 2 segments that has ballhead with an arca-swiss mount 1 arm has 2 segments for mounting other lighting solutions. It mounts on your table just like the Arkon Mount and only costs around US$75
Thanks for mentioning this. As I am an artist myself, I wanted some kind of rig that allows my viewers a top down view of my surface as I draw. I will remember this for future reference - thanks again!!
Interesting choice. You use a portable background stand with my camera clamped to the rod that goes across the table for my top down. I’m definitely getting this too.
Yup, that's the problem with the overhead rig setup that's mounted on a desk, especially when you're unboxing stuff. I suggest using a boom arm extension mounted on a lightstand.. thats what I did with mine.. you can check it out if you want.
I can see the camera shaking when you either touch the table or you put something down onto the table or pick it up from the table. I think best case scenario is to have the mount not attached to the table.
Not useful for video work. The table surface will move and that movement is transferred into the ARKON mount and onto your video. Better off with a couple of C-Stands, grip arm, Gobo and 3/8"-16 adapter to mount head and camera. Allows for both isolation and more versatile coverage.
I just use a microphone boom arm with a mic thread to 1/4 adapter for overhead shots. They are designed to hold up weight (does just fine with my m50 and m6) and they are really cheap (maybe $40 - I just had one around).
I currently use a 🗜 mount that I love for my iPad/iPhone for overhead filming. I never have issues with it wobbling unless I actually hit the mount itself accidentally which rarely happens so I don’t expect this will wobble in use. But I haven’t decided if this is what I want. I’m in the middle of studio remodel and I’m adding an M50 Mark ii for videos and looking for the best setup for my overheads which is my primary video style.
I agree about the tripod legs when inverting my tripod. I ran into that challenge when shooting a dissection video with a full grown adult sturgeon. I didn't mind the legs being in the way that much with a small fish but it. was a giant pain and had to go completely hand held for the big fish. Definitely going to look into this solution. Looks like it can get cleaned easily too!!! Thanks Omar!
Because it is mounted to the desktop where you are showcasing products, the video becomes shaken if you touch the desktop/table. Best way is to mount it to a separate piece of table or wood or something that can hold it steady.

I legit just got this recommended this on Amazon and than all of the sudden the next day you guys have a video about it! Dope thanks!
Having both cameras clamped to the table can’t be great for vibrations/shakiness. This rig decoupled on it’s own stand would be pretty cool though.
That was exactly my thinking as well, does anybody know if there is such rig decoupled?
Anyone reading this just keep on doing it and everything will be successful
