They come around with the flashlights to inspect your shoes lined up under the bed, to ensure that they have been lined up correctly. Touching, heels and toes together, touching. Your clothing in your wall locker needs to be one palm away from the next article of clothing.

There was a shocking lack of knowledge about the most basic health and hygiene matters among the men and women of the armed forces the US slammed together in the period 1941-44. First, they were mostly quite young; second, regional differences came into play. Farm kids and slum dwellers alike often had trouble keeping clean and organized at first, and handling money (preserving their pay); those from the Deep South and religious Midwest were sometimes completely ignorant of sexual matters, incld VD and the ways and dangers of prostitutes. The Armed Forces had to clue them in to keep them safe and working.

And if it is present they repress it in lieu of ridiculous off the wall behavior & nonsensical irrational thinking & outbursts that gain them attention they desire also, many go through each day anticipating & looking for a reason to be “offended” by someone else’s actions or speech or thought wether they genuinely are or not to gain that attention. If you have cramps, try mild stretching exercises and work up to more vigorous. Sit-ups used to help me. For a menstrual migraine, try a strong cup of coffee. There’s something about the caffeine that reduces inflammation of the veins in the forehead. It’s good to hear in 1944 that tampons do not cause loss of virginity. Menopause was no big deal for me. I never had nervous fits or hot flashes. My periods slowly diminished until they just stopped around ages 56-57. They started the same way, gradually, first time at age 14 and were regular by 15. I’d occasionally get cramps on day two, and a headache in my 30’s and 40’s, both easily treatable.

I think by then women generally run out of eggs which is why they're most intense during the teen and young adult years, but get weaker as you get older. Ibuprophens work similarly, they seem to shut down nervous responses that allow the muscles to relax, enabling blood flow and reducing pressure. Once I realized how that works, my own headaches stopped being nearly as unbearable.

Or better yet, wait another 80 years for someone to come back in their time machine and tell you how wrong you are so you can correct your attitude, and then go back. But wait... then someone from 80 years in their future will come back and correct them, so they'll have to come back and correct you and you'll have to go back and correct them again with what you've just learned. But hold on... then someone from 80 years in THEIR future...
Or maybe just stop being so judgmental and realize everyone has always been doing the best they can with what they knew at the time. Sheesh.

It wasn't to promote being superficial..the video was centered around the relationship between health, strength, fitness, and longevity. When your muscles are worked out to their peak, your body will be in the best shape it can be..hence..giving you the longest lasting strength you're capable of. The easiest way to gauge when your muscles had reached the service's expectations was when you looked good in the mirror. Coming from somebody who dropped 65 lbs in one summer...i say looks are important. Ever since I lost it I've felt better and remained healthier. That was 30 years ago..and I've maintained my weight ever since. The majority of those who get offended when you say "looks are important" only do so because it's the easiest way to deny their responsibility for getting themselves there to begin with, and it serves the same purpose as covering their ears and yelling loudly when people try to say human bodies look better when they are in good shape rather than when their shape gets neglected. To those who have REAL medical CONDITIONS..and I mean REAL...my statements don't include you. All you other women who've let yourselves go..get off your fat assess today and start working to look better for your men...they deserve it! 🍺🍻

The corresponding movie for men described the risk of sexually transmitted diseases without shaming, and simple precautions for avoiding them (and unwanted pregnancy). Baptist churches howled -particularly the Southern Baptist Church, but more men were taken out of the fight by STD’s then from combat. This couldn’t continue, so the distribution of and how to use condoms was stressed. Distribution of condoms was mandatory. Public Health reduced dramatically STD’s and they were (and continue to be) charted as UTI-Urinary Tract Infections, no disciplinary action or guilt resulted. . It further reduced unwanted pregnancies.

this video is a gem. so much to say about this. its strange to consider why grown adult women would need government or military instruction regarding their own menstrual cycles but its also strange to consider how women of the 1940s were practically second-class citizens living in a mans world and were not common among the civilian workforce yet alone an organized military. perhaps what is most strange is to consider viewing this video as a man from this era. the feelings it would conjure or produce

Hollywood back then really liked to make it seem like EVERYONE in america was a square cut guy and a poster model girl. A small section of a small city that was one of the few places where people would regularly be filmed and spread around. I think the 80s was when we finally saw what people REALLY looked like in media and things got a lot more chill since then. No more sticks.

Even given the option we just refuse to cause what counts as "sick"? Most companies are moving to "unlimited PTO" for that reason. No one wants to take time of unless they're forced to. (and believe me, I've had at least 3 bosses and HR force me to take a sick day because I sneezed once. My boss was like "Have you taken a day off since you started?" I was like "Uh... I think once for an appointment...?" and he was like "Go home.") so they are getting better with that.

It's still there in the military...in fact the military is even more disciplined now than it was at that time. Sure there are a lot of youths who don't seem like they would make it, but given the volunteer nature and the fact that many people I work with on a daily basis are military and are some of the nicest people I've ever met, it's definitely a lot better. Course the population is also 5x bigger so we're seeing a LOT more idiots with a voice in social media lately.....unfortunately. (the people who complain about the removal of the shark attack as "being too soft" should never have been allowed to serve. I don't need camy heads thinking they can order ME around because they got beaten. That's not discipline, that's BULLYING. but fortunately, I never had issues with anyone who served that I met. Very fantastic people.)
