Seriously though y'all, I cannot get over the finish on this bass🤤
It is very nice and with the Aguilars *chef kiss. If you like the curved body you should check out a Warwick thumb or streamer.
I've been playing Spector for 25 years. The gut punch and the growling tone that hasn't shaved in 3 weeks is where it's at for me.
Why is nobody talking about how this bass is made entirely of maple?
My TL5 and Hohner B Bass V are both full on maple and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH in feel and tone.
Plus the spector curve was just mentioned in a TL5 video like a week ago.
If you see my TL5 for sale, I am dead or in a coma and I probably still wouldn't let go of it in a coma.
Brass nut also makes an open string sound more like a fretted tone - sort of a zero fret/nut combination.
HE SAID HIDDEN AGENDA! We gotta find it! It's like an Easter Egg hunt but for Patrick's dark bass secrets!
Patrick you got to experience a Spector with EMG. That's where you get the real spector growl!! Great Basses very well made!! Real workhorse!
I’ve got a euro lx. Swapped the pickups and preamp with EMGX’s and the Darkglass tone capsule. The growl and tonal range is insane.
@@vladinhaler5306 love the euro lx talk about quality and craftsmanship!!
I agree 100%! With the EMG's and a set of DR nickel low riders thru an Ampeg... Well it's just fkkn glorious. Tone that punches in the gut and hasn't shaved in 3 weeks with a bit of an attitude problem. Love it every time I fire it up.
Well, if he loved this bass, a Euro will blow his mind. And then a U.S. NS or Forte will put him in a straight-up coma. :)
EMG and khaz preamp eqiupped Euro bass is already close to US bass
My euro4lx growls like a beast
that distorted sound in the intro. OMG!!
i'm running out of excuses, think i'll finally have to get one!
Now you understand why Spector players are so passionate! After I got my first Spector almost 20 years ago (after 25 years of playing something else), that was it for me! Can you tell by the thumbnail?
I literally gave away every other bass I owned, including a '75 Jazz bass I swore would be buried with if my son didn't take up bass. He did and it's his now.
Seventeen years later, I'm on my 5th and 6th Spectors
It would be awesome to see a Spector Dimension bass on the channel!! That's the one I'm most excited about.
Just wait a few weeks🙈🤘
Amazing. Thanks Patrick, Love the content!
@@patrickhunter Thank goodness! Can't wait to see the Dimension review from you as well. Every other demo of the dimension on the internet so far is mostly them playing slap. I just want to hear yourself jamming out on it with a pick as well!
PH: the body is so unique.
*warwick streamer has left the chat
You do realize that back in the day Warwick actually copied Spector with that design? Early streamers (made in the early 80s) even had the same headstock as Spectors. Sometime later they changed the shape of the headstock to the current one and realized that Alembic basses have nice features like two-piece bridge and an adjustable nut and added those to their basses as well.
@@TechnoVirus the debate rages on, but I don’t have a dog in that hunt.
The creator of the warwick streamer actually stated it was a copy to provide the comfortable body to the european market and during spectors kramer era warwick got served a lawsuit and had to pay royalties for the body shape. Spector started this shape in 1978 with the first ns-2, warwick's streamer didn't hit the market till 84 6 years later. But again I don't hate warwick cause they did this for the uk/european market cause back then the spectors were mostly usa only basses.. but cheers for the traction more comments will be inbound 100%
There is no debate. There was Spector before the Streamer. Not an opinion, it's a fact.
I actually have a two Spector's a 4 and 5 plus a Warwick... they're very similar but totally different animals.... however Spector's the original
Nice job Patrick, great review! I sold everything else shortly after buying a few Euro Spectors, nothing else has their quality and goodness all the way around imho. By far the best bridge I've ever experienced as well, truly spectacular. Thanks for all the great vids!
Patrick, I love this bass, I will get one at sum point. Just got my first Spector.
Keep the videos coming, love your stuff! Hopefully I'll see my fender on "show me what you bass" soon 😉
I bought a legend-5 from a friend of mine last year. Spector bases are wonderful. The bass in this video sounds incredible.
that looks and sounds so amazing!
All I can think of is that Drake meme:
Warwick Streamer: nah
Spector Ethos (paid review): hell yeah!
This channel has become such an advertisement platform. He mentioned that there's no passive circuit and could have added that changing batteries is a pain as there's no particular cavity for them. And he should have discussed the price tag.
For honest reviews I'll switch to lobster's channel.
If that's how ya feel, adios!✌️
Love Lobster's channel though, Will is a great guy so see ya there!
lmao
@@patrickhunter I haven’t heard of this channel before, I’ll have to check it out. The more bass on my feed the better!
@@patrickhunter your playing is excellent though
Spector basses cut thru the mix w/ thick and tasty mids I don't get from other basses. Other than the extra heft some models inherently come with, they're mega solid.
Detailed, almost sculpted tone and sustain pours outta my Euro 5str live/or in the studio that NEVER ceases to satisfy my ears!
Great video !!!!
My god this bass looks amazing
Sounds excellent. I want a Spector !!
I just bought one in a 5 string. The Aguilars are outstanding, neck thru sustain is incredible, the poplar burl body combined with the maple neck provides a unique bright tone. And it’s a METAL machine!!!
Looks like a stunner. A conversation starter for sure!
I just got my Spector NS dimension 4 last week and I cant say enough good things about it! From the looks, to the multi scale, and the Fishman fluence package, it can literally do anything you want it to. You definitely need to get one on the channel.
I've seen these be a little neck dive-y on the 5 string, how is your 4 string?
@@57precision it's not bad at all. It is very slight, but honestly I dont even notice it
I know this is a super old comment, but I'm looking into buying one, but I have really small hands. Like girly small. Does that 36 inch E feel as huge as I think it will?
Listened to this through my IEM's, this bass sounds great!
Love it, I received my NS Dimension 5 last week and couldn’t be happier with it. Spector is definitely stepping up in all price ranges with the diversity of options available
Jealous! The green version has me drooling.
That’s the one I got my hands on and it’s sick!!
If they ever make a NS Dimension 5 in this galaxy color, my wife is gonna kill me. How is the neck dive on yours? Do you have any experience with Dingwalls in comparison?
I have played a few Dingwalls recently and they’re awesome no doubt about it but for me I feel like tonally the Dimension is way more versatile. As far as neck dive on the Dimension there is a little but it can be fixed with the right strap. I’ve been using the Dimension as my main bass at all of my rehearsals since I got it and it hasn’t been an issue.
you fucking rock man! what a beast of a bass. thanks for the video!
You are making me want a 3rd Spector! Damn you Patrick! 🤣
Once I purchased my first Spector, there was no turning back! The Ethos is a very nice model and doesn't break the bank!
Spector for life! I’ve been playing them since 1989.
I love Spectors, had a NS2A in the 1980's and am building myself a clone this summer... I do agree with you about the gloss of the neck, what I did is used 2,000 grit sandpaper and just slightly scuffed the gloss so it was more of a matte feel. If you want it back to gloss, all it takes is a bit of polishing compound and it's back to "factory" stock!
My friend brought his holoflash Spector NS2000/4 to my place last summer. I had never played a Spector and instantly fell in love with it! The most comfortable and fast neck I experienced in 30 years of playing. Bought it right away! I tend to favor single coils, so I replaced the EMG HZ double coils with EMG P and J soapbars, and the EMG preamp with a TonePump. Killer instrument.
Awesome review, Patrick. \m/ Spector makes such killer sounding basses. I do like this model and their euro and performer basses. If you’re looking to review another bass to review, check out Yamaha. I personally would recommend either the bb or the trbx basses. Both phenomenal basses.
welp here comes another bass to put on my wish list it’s so beautiful
Nice choice, nice choice.
Welcome to the Spector famliy
You should play a spector with EMGs. Those have the classic spector tone
0:40 got excited I thought you were gonna play the ‘Piracy. It’s a crime’ song
It sounds and looks amazing. The lack of an active/passive switch is disappointing on a top end price bass. I'm glad to hear the gloss doesn't slow down the movement on the neck. All of mine are matte finish/low gloss (3 Ibanez, a Fender Jaco Jazz bass, and a Rogue 8 string), and I definitely prefer that to a glossed up neck.
Yes! That bass is way awesome. Glad to see a V/V instead of a blend pot. The 2-band is useful: but I’d want a 3-band with sweepable mids. Also active/passive pull-pot with a passive tone control. Beauty finish. Fresh and eye catching.
It looks like you could upgrade to an Aguilar OBP-3 and maintain the stock knob configuration. You'd have to give up the V/V for a blend though.
That one pretty bass😍 I'd probably get distracted by it every time I'd play it. lol
I love my Spector legend 4 neck through awesome comfort and balance Aguilar PJ.... perfect
I also have a Spector legend 5 bolt neck which I love too
My Kramer from the 90s has active spector pickups and it has always sounded pretty nice.
I’ve got 2 Spectors.. a 4 and a 5 both passive amazing instruments!!! Neck on the 4 string is reminiscent of a Jazz bass to me..
I had a Chinese ns-2 I found in a pawn shop for fairly cheap with two passive emg passive humbuckers, it was one of the most comfortable basses I've played but I could not get a good tone out of it at all, but this sounds killer
How where the tuners on this Bass? will they hold up or be worth an upgrade and if so what would you replace them with?
How do their medium jumbo frets play? I'm used to Ibanez basses with medium frets, but I wouldn't mind trying a bit thicker of a neck than the SR range. I just don't want a bunch of fret clang. That's got me reluctant of trying Schecter, though I love their 6 bolt deal. All their frets are jumbo and x jumbo.
I've always wanted to check one of these out. Any chance you could get a Performer 5 string on the show?
the passive mode can be easily modded in, I have done so in a 5 string legend neckthru, the problem I have with this bass is the lack of easy access to the battery, which is something you cannot mod, funny enough, they do the same thing on the american forte series (but not on the euro).
What about its weight? Any immersion of the neck? For me the first thing in a bass is comfort and having the same playability standing up or in a chair. Thanks
Beast❗️...
I just picked up a Spector Legend4. First thoughts was the same way although I dont like the really high tone. I went and gutted the electronics and needed a more warm sound so I smashed in some EMG X. One thing this bass lacks is warmth in the sound otherwise it's a great bass.
How does the neck compare to the Pulse II . Is it fatter as the neck on the Pulse is nice and slim or similar profile to the Euro 4 LX, which is fatter ? Thanks awesomejob
Patrick hunter. Do you own Any Warwick basses?
Bruh, you gotta try a euro spector with emg’s. Listening to this bass. My first thought was, “it sounds good, but it doesn’t have that signature spector growl.” Sounds great though! Great video!
No, but it's still plenty growly. I love the classic EMG/Spector sound, but Spector has done a great job with giving us more options. The Aguilars get you some growl and less of a hi-fi sound. The Bartolinis are smoother, more refined and less in your face (though they can still bark, especially with the TC pre). And there are still EMG-equipped models. Of course, you can get anything you want with the U.S. custom shop, as well.
That jam at 04:10 :O
Got 2 Spector Euros....Spector kick ass
It growls without burping like a Warwick.
Check out Warwick Streamers if you can. Oddly same body shape that Warwick were permitted to use. But the double buck model could be right up your alley. Very good bass.
Looks lovely but i don't do gloss finish. Spector seem to be doing good work right now.
Yeh I love spector. Only played them in a music shop tho, kinda expensive. But I think the body isn't too uniq. Without seeing the head I could not tell if spector or a warwick streamer. Haha. Love the finish
Streamer was based on the spectors
Oh my god, the neck is blue!
I play guitar, but I picked up a low end sawtooth bass....thing is wicked fun. Looking for fun "bassy" songs to learn and sing to
Im looking at my first 5 string and Spector is on my short list. Wanted an Ethos or Dimension but you know... Money. So I am looking at the Legend Standard or classic.
would totally buy one if it came in a single color.
I wanted to know where Eddie Jackson from Queensryche got his sound...Spector.
3:04 ... Are you sure that's not a Warwick Streamer?! =P
I dunno, feels sponsored tbh. Stay real Pat!
lol k
I mean the video literally says ‘includes paid promotion’... Tbf I don’t care if he’s getting paid to demo it or getting a free bass, it’s not like you can fake a clean tone that nice.
I can’t tell if you’re fucking around. It’s says “includes paid promotion” in the corner of the video. And he talks about the fact for a solid 15 seconds.
There is a difference in sponsored video and bought opinion. Gotta give Patrick props. He will be honest. If he likes something, he tells you. If he has issues, he tells you. If it's a dog, he let's you know.
And FYI, every review you see of almost any product that is expensive, is sponsored. Do you think the car or motorcycle mags and websites buy the products they test and review? That's just the way it works. Has for decades
More spector basses please NS2, Euro 4lx or classic and ns dimension multi scale
Love this bass my only issues with it is for the price why put the tone pump jr (which is like the first revision of the tone pump in it at this price point) so 1) tone pump jr too hot no trim
2)no battery box at this price point when the cavity cover gets screwed to the wood leading to issues down the road.
A lot of people don't like the non trim Tone Pump. Personally I prefer the EMG BQC preamp in my Spectors.
And a battery compartment would be nice, but seriously, if you unplug the cable, battery life is extremely long. I play mine 2-5 hrs a day and get almost a year out of the battery. And there's metal ferrels for the bolts that hold the cover on. It doesn't screw directly into the wood
@@johnwilkerson1535 I have battery's in my q4 from 2019 tbh I pulled em and tested em and they were fine still so left em. But it has a gotoh 18 volt box.
What ghost song was he playing at the beginning
Love the bass. Not sure on that color combo
If they ever do the new Dimension MS in this color, my wife is gonna kill me.
Wheres the Warwick finally
Well, with that kind of pricetag I expect it to be awesome 😉
I don’t know how much the go for in the us, but in the Netherlands, you gotta shell out 1800 euro to get one 😨
They are 1800 USD. Which I think is a solid deal for a bass of this quality, even if it is made in Korea.
You need to try an ibanez sr1000 prestige, same curve on the bodies.
I bet this bass taste like wild raspberry
The snozzberries taste like snozzberries! 🍓
This is the first time I've seen you like a Bass thats actually good looking and some what Metal. Normally you like Basses that look like old furniture 👎
What is the weight on this?
Spector ns2 4 string sounds better , bolt on, but EMG pickups with pressure on the low end
try euro 5lx
Please make a review about the Gibson Les Paul Junior Tribute DC Bass.
Love all your reviews;!!!
I don’t like red or blue basses so the finish is a double no from me... The build quality and tone is stunning though.
Huge Spector fan (can you tell from the thumbnail?). Not crazy about the Interstellar finish either. Have you seen the other finish this comes in? Amazing
For that price it better be the greatest bass I've ever played!
Scott Hutchinson
It would be the greatest bass you ever played. Trust me
@@johnwilkerson1535 That's a fair statement. I'll try one if I get the chance!
Sounds kind of thin to be honest
“No hidden agenda”
Of course there is. Cheap advertising. It’s probably much cheaper to use youtubers than to have actual ‘traditional’ ads floating around.
He literally says it in the video....
@@ileutur6863 I know he did. I’m not deaf. I’m just telling the truth about this whole youtube advertising industry. It’s advertising in a small, entertaining package. People tend to forget that last bit. The entire platform exists solely due to advertising $$$.
I'm in love, not with you though Patrick sorry
There is no such thing as a non-biased paid review.
It adds food in your fridge and a good review means more potential money down the road, either from Spector or other brands. How is that not influencing you in any possible way? You think they give you cash not expecting sales from your review? Since when being paid is not an expectation to accomplish something we're paid for?
Nothing wrong with that, it's promoting that this is equal to a non paid review that is wrong. It's not fair to your viewers to put so much emphasis on a perfectly non biased review. You're not a super human, you can't accomplish that, because you can't play against your own interests.
Even if you really enjoyed the instrument. That'd be irrelevant. Only way to know if you overlooked defaults is if your tongue was completely free of expectations.
