      @@sharpshooterjd Is there any risk of the bands coming up and off the slots? I would put a dab of hot melt glue over the top of the forks for insurance. Your thoughts

    A classic attachment style that originated in Britain.

    Hi Sharpshooter,I Just wanted to ask do you still make and sell these cool slingshots?

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do from time to time. Not making a whole lot at the moment, but I take a custom order now and then. I do have a waiting list, so I probably will not be able to fill an order at this time, but I might be able to sneak you in. Shoot me a message on Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/joshsblacksmithshop.

    I found this video because I'm currently making a slingshot and want to use this method.
    I think it would be even safer if the loose ends were on the outside and bands on the inside.
    Then when you wrap it around, the loose ends are captured under the bands.

      @sharpshooterjd  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! You are correct, it can be slightly safer. I go over that later on in the video :).

    Did you cover that one should add an extra inch above and beyond their pull length before cutting the bands to length?

      Ha, no I did not. Thank you for letting me know! I will add an annotation to cover that.

    Word of warning to natural forks using this method. Reverse matchstick band attachment means your pulling on half the fork and half the strength. be warned , do not reverse a natty fork

    • @E-BikingAdventures
      @E-BikingAdventures 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure that most people are smart enough not to make a "natty" fork too thin and would use hard wood. It's only 6 lbs per fork at most anyways.

    what keeps it from sliding out and putting red marks on you face?

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Friction and physics. It's very safe if done right. The slots have to be smaller than the bands though.

    • @greenjoe4202
      @greenjoe4202 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man, i was speculating on how they would Not just slip out like the bands expanding as you release the pouch ect but thats just speculation.

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, no problem. The key is stretching the bands to make them fit in the slots. So even when they expand and contract they are still held in. The other key is to band the slingshot in reverse like shown, and then you wrap them around the forks. This takes most of the force off of the attachment point. It's an age-old trick :).

    It's called a retainer pin. If it is not a matchstick it is a retainer pin. Chinese tubing? It's called insulator. Why would you introduce two methods one being safer than the other one. Introduce one that is the safest. I'm done

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because each method has it's pros and cons. By introducing both, I'm allowing you to make the decision for yourself. Your safety is in your own hands after all. And plus both are safe if done right, it's simply personal preference which one you choose.

      Incredible. Someone so fragile that the way a random dude talks about his slingshots offends them so badly that they are "done". We found em, the most fragile person on the internet.
