I agree I have always driven mine in sport mode but after talking to other owners, I realize not everyone does that. So I figured this was an easy way for those people that don’t want to drive around in sport mode to still be able to disable the MDS. Kind of best of both worlds for them. I forget sometimes not everyone’s Scat Pack or Hellcat is a weekend warrior. Sometimes I forget how spoiled I am. Lol. Stay safe out there!!
The difference though, is that you are down a gear during 45-50mph testing, which can be seen in your video. So not completely unnoticeable having trans in sport mode, but still a convenient trick. Also, not sure how on earth you get over 16mpg.. lol. Hats off.
Also, regarding the "Custom" mode settings. If you want your exhaust valves to stay open at all times, put the Transmission in "Track" mode. You can have all the other settings as Street 😉
The active exhaust delete only keep the exhaust valves open and doesn’t affect the MDS. But if you need a how-to do the delete for free here’s a link just in case… th-cam.com/video/zC-QE4Nzy1E/w-d-xo.html
Hey from the South Carolina Coast. First 2 things I put on when I start my 2019 Chally Scat Pack, the radio display and then Sport Mode. I have NEVER driven in any other mode except sport mode. Tried race mode once too aggressive for street driving.
@@moparlifescatpack its really not hard and the harness they have connects directly in the back. id recommend checking it out asap. it will save your car
Explain how you "disabled" the mds mode with the tazer because I contacted them about it and they said it doesn't do it you just do the exact same thing this guy is doing putting it in sport because in track mode with mine the mds kicks in just sport works with shutting mds off
@ you go through the menu and look for eco, turn that off. Many forums say that even at idle the mds is not on. so if you don’t get it a chance to turn on.. then i consider that shut off. track mode should never turn mds on at all.
man I just bought a 22 Challenger and I love it so far but the ride is kinda bumpy. I just got new struts on the front and lower control arms for the front but it's still not as smooth. Do these cars just don't ride as smooth? Ive been driving SUV's for decades and this is my first car in like 20 years so is it just how they ride or do I need to do something else?
When you are in sport mode when doing city driving and you come to a stop at a traffic light; when you get going again will the transmission up shift automatically or do you have to manually upshift with the paddles or t handle?
It will upshift automatically. The only time you ever have to shift is if you are using paddle shifters or you have it in the Auto stick mode, but just regular driving in sport mode it shifts itself.
...Glad i got the manual BUT, we have the 1 to 4 shift 😖....if you don't go into some kind of Custom/Sport/Track Mode👍. So, every time i start it, i put it into Custom and then that's it....Not a big deal 👍😎
My manual Corvettes had that annoying skip shift but it could be bypassed with an aftermarket pigtail thank goodness. Im in it for smiles per gallon not miles per gallon.
do you think the MDS really does hurt the engine? i have a 5.7 in my ram truck but don't have the console to change to sport mode. How can i turn the MDS off on my 2012 ram. I just had to change the engine with 130k miles and they had no clue what caused the hemi tick and then hurt my engine and i dont want to hurt the new engine if possible.
Well, from everything I’ve heard about it. It’s whole purpose is to get better fuel economy. But when I see people compare driving around with MDS activated and then driving around without it, I wouldn’t say the fuel savings is anything substantial. So just in my personal opinion, I would rather have all of my cylinders going all of the time having equal bits of where and use Over the life of the car. But that’s just my opinion as a regular car person. I am definitely not a mechanic so I cannot answer from a mechanical standpoint.
Seems like most people agree the failures come from long idle times. So I say as long as you avoid having your car idle for long periods, you are probably going to be just fine.
Sport and Track also disable MDS. The only advantage to doing it this way is that you get to keep full traction control and soft steering and suspension.
I learned a lot from this video about the MDS system. th-cam.com/video/NcDeWXYtozE/w-d-xo.html One thing I learned is that MDS is activated by 4 solenoids that increase the oil pressure to the lifter galley. This means that your lifters are being lubricated with the maximum amount of oil that can be delivered to them, while your engine is running on 4 cylinders. After watching the video, I like it when my 392 hemi is cruising and running on 4 cylinders.
I will check that out. I just can’t get passed the idea of 4 cylinders being used more than the other 4. In my mind I just think “uneven wear” but then again Im not a mechanic. Just a guy who loves to drive. 😂
@@moparlifescatpack The pistons are still moving. The MDS just collapses the lifters on the shutdown cylinders, so that the valves stay closed. It does also deactivate the injectors on those cylinders. ✌🏼
Sport Mode all day! (Weekender trips as well)
Watching the gas needle literally move lets me know, all 8 engaged 🤣. Stay moving friend!!

@@moparlifescatpack sport mode and autostick that’s the ticket
That's only for automatic cars not for the manuals so I'm running mines at all 8 engaged at all times without putting it in sport mode
Definitely one of the many benefits of having the manual!

I had just gotten back from a road trip so got to enjoy some decent mpg. My around town mpg average definitely not as good but way more fun. 😂

Just found your video. Great video. Thanks. Subbed!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub! Feel free to browse the channel to see if you come across anything else useful!
truck use tow mode no mds later trans shifts also
Please check out the Tazer , I disabled the 4 cyl mode and it will NEVER go to Eco mode. It also has security issues.
I have seen that a lot of people use that, but I don’t personally have any experience with it.

Thanks! I was hoping I wasn’t the only one! Putting it in sport to disable MDS is easy but not everyone wants to have it in sport all the time.
are all of these [settings and modes]on the base 5.7?? I am looking to buy a 2023
I’m not sure what settings are offered on a new 5.7. Hopefully someone can chime in for you.

The cars with the adaptive suspension drive pretty decent but the ones without it do have a very rough ride in my opinion.

Sport mode holds you out of 7 & 8 gears in normal driving

Same thing with the 1320 scat pack. Hit the drag button 😁
The 1320 has MDS???
Mine has been in track mode the day i left the dealership.
Perfect! 😎
This has to be only on the automatic transmission. My scat is a manual transmission.
Yeah only applies to the autos.
Correct! MDS is only on models with automatic transmissions.
Just drive it in manual mode. It takes it off completely. That's my prefer method. 😊
Yep, for those who like to feel like they are shifting, putting it in auto stick will definitely do the trick.
I’m always in sport mode
The only way to fly!
Just get the kit and do it right and also get a oil catch can
Catch can a must. Put mine on at 100 miles!
Autostick disables it no matter what you’re in
Good point. Turns it into a “manual” basically. 😎

just put the autostick in the final gear and drive💯😎👍🏾

Easy method permanently disable MDS is unclip and slide back oil pressure sender plug next to alternator.
That’s interesting. I have never heard of that.

buy a tuner and turn it off
