    A nice little summary. Thanks for the video and just leaving a comment for the algorithm!
    So let's delve into these details for anyone wanting to know more, as so much information is so easily accessible online. The primordial reference to primordial time (Gen 2:2) has god ending/finishing (כילה) his work and then resting/ceasing/stopping (שבת). Then he blesses the 7th day because that's when he ceased/stopped. And fair enough, it's an interesting interpretation that god is acting like a priest who's conducting a ritual of blessing on a sacred day, but instead here is creating sacred time through a primordial blessing and the cosmos acting as his temple, etc. This is a neat idea in that article those apologists cited. But! Does this really argue against anthropomorphism? Well, to use this word "stop" imo opens up some interesting questions, because he's not really "resting" but just stopping himself from doing more; as if he feels he's completed, or feels proud of his workmanship. And then there's the first re-telling(s) of Genesis already in the Pentateuch, Pseudo-Moses' re-phrasings in Ex. 20 & 31. In 20:11 he says that god had "settled down" (נוּחַ), and then in 31:17 god ceased/stopped (re-using the word) in order to be refreshed, as you'd noted. But how to translate this word, as the usual english translation of "refresh" feels to me like it's as if one is drinking water or showering. Imo we should translate it literally -- re-breathed, or more simply, "he stopped and took a breath" (וַיִּנָּפַֽשׁ wa-yin-nāp̄ash). This is Francesca's understanding as you noted and it's both true and very revelatory about understanding exactly "what god is"...in the mind of the Exilic period Pentateuchal elite editors.
    Besides having her on your show, which would be great, I'd also recommend Benjamin Sommer who's also written about divine anthropomorphism. As a preview here's an incredible in depth lecture on his take on the subject - th-cam.com/video/pOIobj504PM/w-d-xo.html
    Also I'd love to see you do a video in response to the apologetic "God doesn't change", as you show in passing various times where god has emotions and an emotional response in the bible. That'd be a great video, charting god's emotional change through the Pentateuch.

    What's so fascinating to me is why this wasn't a bigger deal beyond just Marcion? Like why was the Trinity in the Council of Nicaea such a big deal to be addressed but than this was just handwaved so easily?

    Great video David!
    The questions, I think, ultimately boils down to:
    What's more plausible?
    - A god created everything then rested? Or humans, who require rest, imbued their own characteristics onto their deity?
    - A god is so petty, violent, and insecure that he sends mofo'ing BEARS to slaughter children? Or the writer was petty, violent, and insecure about his baldness?
    - God changed between the OT and NT? Or the people writing those books changed?
    Also, I've never heard of Rob Bell before. After seeing that MSNBC clip, I did some light internet research on him. I think he'd serve as some great fodder for future videos. 🙃

      First God doesn't need rest God keeps the universe in tact. Secondly God is not petty but he is indeed JEALOUS. The prophet send bears after adolescents not children and those adolescents was a obstacle in the prophets mission. Thirdly God doesn't needs us but he desire us to be with Him for eternity

    We have to make sure who's the one and only true God through Jesus Christ. The Christian and I'll never be ashamed of the Lord through My Savior Jesus Christ. The Lord is all-powerful he spoke everything into existence by the breath of his word. We have to make sure I understand the context of scripture in the message some messages we don't need to take literally just like when Jesus was speaking in parables. Every word of the holy Torah bible translated into the English Bible and many different languages that the Lord's word never changes the Lord is the same God yesterday today forever for eternity. We can trust every promises and his word and the Lord's word is inspired by God written by man guided by the Lord's Spirit the holy Spirit. The Lord knows all things from the beginning of time the Lord is not affected by time space or matter. Either we're going to trust everything in the Lord's word or none of because the devil and demonic spirits will get even some Christians or some people to walk away from the Lord in his word the devil and demonic spirits can start convincing people that if the devil can get one or more person to deny one sentence of the Bible overtime the devil will get more people to get Vince to not let them believe and one chapter the Bible and then another chapter and an overtime the whole book of the Lord's word. We have to stand on the foundations of the Lord's word who he is his character in this nature entrust every promises and it's word do not lean on your own understanding. Every word of the Lord's word is true the devil and demonic spirits like to work through corrupt people through false religions and false idols and false gods the try to twist the Lord's word many ways. The Lord's word as a love letter to us but it's also an instruction book to teach us how to live it also shows us the truth about sin evil and hell and good but also a teaches us how everything came to be from Genesis all way down from revelation. That's why we have to do our best to meditate on the Lord's word and read his word for yourself from the Torah Hebrew Bible translated into the English Bibleand to look at the evidence of Jesus resurrection countless witnesses but also there finding more evidence of artifacts showing in the Bible of the Noah's ark but also evidence of the Noah and the flood they're finding fossils at the bottom of the oceans finding them on the tops of the peaks of the mountains around the world scientists are also finding soft tissue bone and some dinosaurs that shouldn't be there if dinosaurs were millions and billions of years old. They're also finding more evidence old cities that was buried underneath grounds over the years and backing up the Bible also finding evidence of the pool of Salome and Peter's house and also old coins dating back to the Roman empire and much more nothing like the Bible. It's the number one selling book of History the first book ever. Even the largest word said that we can't fit everything in the Lord's work is he'll be too much but it gives us enough to understand who he is through Jesus Christ because the word became flesh and lives amongst us and live the perfect life that no one couldn't live... It's always good to have a nice dialogue and conversation without any negativity...✍️✝️🕊️❤️😇🙏

    A Christian can perhaps say that the Bible often is misleading if read literally, or if not read through a Christological lens. But I struggle to conceive of why God would choose to write a text that requires such constant rereading to become coherent, let alone morally inspiring. For example, I can accept the Flood never happened and is a metaphor. But a metaphor for what? What picture of God does it paint if "God is love" is meant to be the hermeneutic key? Why inspire a text with such constant tension?

    • @DeepDrinks
      @DeepDrinks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment! I often wonder why bother writing anything at all? If you have a message for humanity and you are all powerful, just tell humanity, make it as clear as day to everyone instantaneously.
      Would solve allot of misunderstandings, hate, violence, genocide etc

      God destroy mankind with the flood cause mankind was wicked sinful and rebellious and God gave mankind 120 years to return to Him and yet they mock God and Noah. The second reason is fallen angels who have teach mankind all types of witch craft and forbidden knowledge

    • @TheGreatAgnostic

      So God either was impotent to change their moral character, or he wasn't omnibenevolent to care enough to do so. Naturally drowning ones children is the sane response here. Speaking of which, what crimes had the infants committed since the Bible says, "A son won’t suffer punishment for the father’s iniquity?" Ezekiel 18:20

    • @clementlesch2591
      @clementlesch2591 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGreatAgnostic Firstly the children and infants who died during the flood of Noah will get a righteous and just judgement. Secondly God doesn't held children accountable for their parents sins but He hold parents accountable for how they raise their children
