A lot of people don't know this but "Sade" is a band, not a solo artist. The singer of the band is Sade Adu, but they are a band and have been together since 1982. Paul Spencer Denman (the bass god) and Stuart Matthewman (sax, guitar, keys) were musicians in a band called Pride and Sade Adu was a backup singer. The two instrumentalists approached her and asked she would be interested in doing a side project with them; it became "Sade."
From what I understand, once they were discovered, she was given many huge offers to break off as a solo artist (and come to the states and work with Quincy Jones) and she rejected the offers and stayed with her band. They are one.
Another fun fact that a lot of people don't know and would probably never guess: she's had NO formal music training. When she has an idea for a melody she hums it to the band and they figure it out musically. She was working retail and a producer was smitten by her beauty and asked her to join the band, Pride, based on the strength of her face.
They're the best active band on the planet in my opinion. Their compositions are incredibly rich but never muddled. They live in that sweet spot.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Sade writes some of the most timeless songs of the heart I've ever heard. I still remember her first video on MTV. God I underestimated this woman's talent but I've found over the last 20 years, her voice is one of those that I reach to when my life is upside down. Such a calm, soothing, sincerity to her. I read on a previous video post and agree with it,,,, if there was ever an image of what a woman looks like,,,, it would be Sade. She only gets better with age. Beautiful inside and out. Thank you for your integrity to the music. Definitely could use more of you in today's world.

My wife and I saw Sade live when we were dating. She performed barefoot and changed to 2 white dresses during the show. My wife and I are now married 12 years and Sade still gives us "happy tears". She knows I love Sade Adu.
i watched this video a thousand times and i cry at the end every time i watch it again. Such level, class, so much gratitude, respect... there is nothing even close to the music of Sade for me these days. I still play same CDs which my father bought for me when I was a kid. Only sounds better every time. And in this video... those bows to each of the musician.. it is beyond words

I fell asleep watching a Matlock. TV show video with auto play on TH-cam. As it turns out there was a couple getting married named Matlock that played this song at their wedding so this came up in my feed and it started playing as I was sleeping. As I was sleeping I thought I went to heaven and was listening to an angel. I woke up and was thinking.....wtf is going on. I realized it was a video. When I came to...i looked and seen it was this Sade women. I had heard of her, but it was a long time ago. I was like...wow...i love this song. I played it again. That was about a year or so ago. Every now and then i go back to it and watch again. The women is a goddess.
The way she sings is pure class and the beat moves with her! The way she treats her band is above and beyond many! What a lady still today...beautiful and sexy.

I just have so much respect and admiration for Sade as an artist and how she has molded her career. This is a woman who never promoted herself, didn't do a million interviews , never created controversy around herself or tried to seek out attention. Her music and her talent did all the talking. I've dedicated this song to my Shih Tzu of 10yrs...Charlie. We now have a beautiful home to be together in,but we were homeless for 2years. He was stolen just after becoming homeless...36 days later, I tracked him to a different city and brought him home. Well, not "home" for we were still homeless, but he was "at my side". I also just did 4 months in jail, standing up to a spiteful and vindictive TX Parole officer, ordering me to "get rid of Charlie so you could be put in a half way house.".....no way I would never leave Charlie's side.

Over half way through 2021 here. Sade is such a class act. There will never be anyone like her again. So talented, so beautiful, so humble. The way she introduces each band member with such a loving and personal comment just makes me love her all the more.

I was there at The Pond (Honda Center now) in Anaheim, California on September 20, 2001, nine days after that tragic day. Sade paid tribute to the lives we lost. I remember watching the By Your Side video over and over in the days after the September 11th attacks. I was fortunate to also be at this concert at Honda Center on August 30, 2011. This performance was so touching! I still have the confetti from this show and the Staples show on August 19th. I love how Sade so lovingly introduced all the band members. Sade is pure class! She knows Sade is all the band, coming together to create beautiful music for all. Forever in my heart! 🎶❤️🎶
