Im an American whose patriarch came from Wales in the 1750s. They had 9 sons that fought in the Revolutionary War only 2 survived. One of which is my 5th great grandfather. His son's bible is in the Alamo in San Antonio Texas. Im so blown away by the patriotism, the strength and bravery of the Welsh.

Thanks Andy. I was brought up in S Wales after the 2nd WW and for some reason we still had a problem with the English. I now live in the US after escaping the lousy weather etc. But I do appreciate the fact that the English and Welsh have sensibly got together. We have the World Cup match-ups to come! Good luck.
@@IorrieP The Welsh language sounds very similar to the Breton language, which is a Celtic language spoken only in Brittany (northwest of France). Populations are in fact linked in Europe when the geographical distance is small. A question, why the English and French have invaded many neighbors' population?

I'm a proud Manxman and Goidelic Celt with a Welsh-speaking girlfriend. She has taught me a lot about the Welsh history and I have educated her on the history of the Isle of Man. This song has Welsh passion in abundance. Wales, Ireland and Scotland are my close neighbours and friends. I am not a football fan but I would love to see Wales do very well. - Macsen Wledig is the Welsh/Brythonic name for Magnus Maximus, a Roman General who was assigned to Britannia and who usurped much of the Roman Empire using Celtic British troops. His significance to Welsh history is that he was considered the ancestor of several Welsh dynasties, was said to have married a British Celtic woman, and is believed to have created a sense of independent Celtic British identity after he diminished the Roman presence in Britannia in 383. Some Welsh historians argued that this was the origin of Welsh as a distinctive, unified, and independent identity as the British Celtic ethnonym (Britons) became the Welsh ethnonym (or Cymry in Welsh).

So, in short, the song ties together various historical references and moments that mirror each other and inspire us and are relevant to us in the present: to unite and preserve the linguistic, cultural, and political heritage of Wales against assimilationist forces that seek only to destroy and dominate, and to celebrate its longevity despite multiple attempts to undermine it. I think there are schools in Scotland where they are teaching students Doric. I know it's not Celtic but its the language my great grandparents had. After a few minutes I can get a rough guess what people are talking about but I wish I could learn it.
@@ericgeddes3353 I'm part of the Low Saxon minority in the Netherlands. We lack recognition as well. There is not even a standard for the Dutch Low Saxon language. For now we are safe, but the amount of Low Saxon speakers is about to be split in half. The Dutch government only cares about the gas that's under beneath our feet. You might have heard of Frisian, but the world barely knows or cares about Low Saxon I am glad that I am able speak Drents. But I don't speak the language perfect. I'm also afraid to do so, because if I'm in the open, and especially outside Drenthe, I can't speak the language.

And how it will lift the Wales players of that I am sure. Wouldn't it be so good to see this video played at the venue pre matches. As a Mancunian who grew up in Devon and now live in France, Wales always has a special place in my heart from one trip to Swansea. What a great bunch of people you are. Patriotic, humble, funny and passionate. If it was possible to be Nationalistically adopted Id be on the waiting list.

@@richardyoung7415 the way Celtic is used today is false, it was made up in the 17th Century as a way to oppress the Welsh and discredit the real British history so they could rewrite British history.
Even in the proper original meaning of the term Celtic, the Welsh were not “Celtic” Celtic is not a race or ethnicity, Celts didn’t have their own specific language. Celt simply meant someone who lived in woods/forest, amongst the trees.
The “Welsh” were mostly Gâl/Gwâl, being people who lived in the open and farmed the land and built houses in the open etc. which is why the French call Wales, Pays de Galles, meaning land of the Galles.
The Welsh are and were not a single group of ethnic peoples, if fact, the north and south peoples were vastly different, more different then say those of Kent in south east England from the Scots in Scotland.
They appreciated the word Celt to use it as a derogatory word to basically say that the Welsh were unsophisticated, unintelligent, tree dwellers and now people use it freely like a badge of honour to be a Celt, not understanding that it’s meant as an insult because they have been indoctrinated to believe they are Celt.
