4:32 The rose is the symbol of the English rugby team, and the "flower-thing" on the red background are the Three Feathers of the Prince of Wales, the emblem of the Welsh rugby team. 6:31 The cream is petroleum jelly, which protects against "cauliflower ears" - a disfigurement caused by pressure and friction on the skin of the outer ear. And the shot of the guys with the dodgy ears is why I soon decided to wear a scrum cap - and I was a scrum-half, so I technically didn't need one! BTW, the Six Nations means the six nations of Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland, France and the recent addition of Italy. And height? Well, if you're small, fast and lithe, you're a winger. If you're slightly bigger, and not quite as fast, you're a centre, although there are centres that are built like brick toilet blocks. If you're small, rather clever and quickish (I wasn't, but I had quick hands!) you're either a fly-half (usually the guy that does the tactical kicking for possesion) or a scrum-half (the guy from the backs who looks after the forwards who are the ones that scrum down, also does a bit of tactical kicking of his own - see if you can find Robert Jones's performance on TH-cam where he tied down England in the corner with little tactical kicks to defend a small lead in 1989!) and to complete the backs, the Full Back, usually a bit taller than a winger (he often has to catch high balls), meatier but just as fast. Now we come to the forwards. These are the guys in the scrum. We start with the hooker (no laughing at the back there!), who "wins" the ball in the scrum, who is not amazingly tall, but is stocky to say the least. Then there are his supports, the props. The Props are slightly bigger than the hooker - usually a prop hovers about 6ft dead - and are very stocky indeed. Then there are the locks, that "lock" the scrum together, and also win the ball at the lineout. These guys are HUGE! Anywhere between 6ft6 and nearly 7ft, and like the props, not known for their speed (the hooker is a bit faster!) then there are the Flankers, who are on the outside of the scrum. A flanker is what happens when you've got a lock that's on the small side, but with real pace - since 1995 some flankers have been converted to wingers to take advantage of a big, heavy bloke running over you! Finally, we have the Number 8, who is the guy at the back of the scrum. These guys are big, fairly fast and often SUICIDALLY BRAVE! Hope that clears a few things up!
Hands down, the Welsh National anthem ringing out at the Principality stadium and the All Blacks Haka are my two absolute favourite sporting spectacles - gets me emosh everytime (and btw I'm English).
The cream, bandages and the hats you sometimes see them wear called scrum caps help protect against cauliflower ear. After years of playing the ears can become well....a cauliflower shape 😂
Reminds me of an old joke. A man who goes the doctor with two large, green sores on his - ahem! - member. The doctor takes one look and says, "You've heard of cauliflower ears? Well, you've got brothel sprouts".
Thanks for focussing on our National Anthem - As a Welshman, there's nothing that makes the hairs stand up on your neck more, or makes you grow 6 inches taller than hearing this sung prior to an international rugby game...particularly against England, in Cardiff...😊
Daffodil is the national flower of Wales. The Welsh emblem is the three feathers - the Rose is the English emblem. The vasoline is just because forwards ears get cauliflowers from the contact in scrums and rucks - just like the boxers it helps reduce this issue. 👍
Swing low, Sweet Chariot - Twickenham - England v. France 2011 or jerusalem! We like to sing at our games. Anthems, The Scots and Irish sing well too but the Welsh do have a fantastic singing heritage.
"You turn up against the All Blacks and your symbol is a flower, that's not very intimidating" Yeah the All Blacks symbol looks like a feather.............
All blacks is a silver fern. We (welsh) have symbols, a dragon on our flag, daffodil national flower, the 3 feathers of the prince of Wales with Ich Dein, meaning I serve. Cymru am Byth...Wales forever.
IIRC the words translate something like this : The old land of my fathers is dear to me, Land of poets and singers, famous ones of renown, Her manly warriors, very fine patriots, For freedom they shed their blood. Land! Land! I''m partial (=on the side of) to my land. While the sea stands as a wall, to the very dear territory, O may the old language endure! :-)
The 2 flags at the beginning are the Emblems of the Welsh Rugby Union (Three Feathers) and the English Rugby Union (Red Rose). The other flower you will see is the yellow daffodil which is The national flower of Wales. The New Zealand All Blacks emblem is the Silver Fern. Welsh people are usually small and dark haired, but obviously population can vary a lot description wise. The tape on the ears is alternative to fully wrapping tape around your ears/wearing a scrum cap. It is generally worn by forwards and it protects your ears in the scrum. Ireland plays as one nation in the 6 Nations. And the player it keeps panning to is Alun Wyn Jones he is the Welsh Captain and has represented Wales 148 times so far...
In rugby, tall strong players are usually the players who bind and push in the scrums, and the really heavy-set players are the front row of the scrums. The shorter, faster players are the back line who distribute the ball away from the scrum. In the scrum, players can easily get cauliflower ears, so a lot of players tape them :) And those weren't the team owners, they were the coaches.
The Welsh are known for being brilliant singers and their love of music. All my teachers and my head teacher at Primary School were all Welsh. As a result Maths and English weren’t really a big deal there but music, singing and drama were. I loved it! 🙂💗👌 xx
Rugby is designed so that any body size can be accommodated within the team of 15 players. The forwards tend to be the stronger and bigger, whereas the backs are faster and more nimble, therefore tend to be smaller than the forwards. However, some forward positions lend themselves to being short, but stocky.
The 6 nations is an international Rugby tournament between England Scotland (who have a little mini contest within it for the Calcutta Cup), Wales, Ireland (which I think Rugby Union is the only sport they play as a United nation), France and Italy. It's played yearly in the spring and is well worth watching
Rugby is the one sport that wakes goes crazy over. Football is like the second sport but the surrounding in football is as good. The phrase “gwlad GWLAD” is the loudest phrase that will be said in a Welsh stadium. I’ve been to a couple of games and each time it is amazing you just want to pour your heart and soul into it.
Im English but definitely got a soft spot for the welsh national anthem. Plus the rugby team sing it with such pride. English football could learn a lesson from them
The Six Nations is an international rugby tournament which is competed in by 6 different countries: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, and Italy. The year 1746 is a red herring as it has nothing to do with the tournament, but rather it was the year that Guiness, the draught beer company who sponsors the Six Nations, was founded.
The feathers are the symbol of the Welsh team (the prince of wales feathers) and the daffodil is the Welsh national flower, the team they were playing against was England and both their national flower and symbol is a rose.
The meaning of the song is very deep and thanks for our freedom and our ansestors, you should listen to it whith subtitles so that you can understand the meaning
Trust me there is nothing, NOTHING compared to being in the Millennium Stadium when the Welsh National anthem is being sung - the volume (not to mention passion) is incredible, especially if the roof is closed. TV can never do it justice!
The euros for football starts on Friday. You have a chance to learn about football. It's the 2nd biggest tournament below the world Cup but its huge for all of europe. They'll obviously be less fans though. Wales England and Scotland all qualified. Maybe you can react to the best goals or something. Although it's always better if you watch it in the pub surrounded by fans.
Oxford University recently done a study on the genetic make up of the U.K. and found that the Welsh have a completely different genetic make up than that of England, Scotland and N.I. They all so found that the make up between South Wales and North Wales are all so slightly different. With South Wales having a make up similar to that of the basque region and north Wales having a make up similar to those in the Baltic region.
Hi, the six nations rugby tournament is played every spring between the six countries, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy. This game was between England and Wales. The flags shown on the pitch were the red rose of england, also seen on their jerseys, and the three feathers of Wales, also shown on their jerseys. By the way, the all blacks symbol is the silver fern and they have a fern leaf sewn on their jerseys. The guy getting most camera time is the worlds most capped rugby player and captain of the Welsh team. The people in the box were not 'owners' but the Welsh team coaches. Apart from one or two individuals it is pretty difficult to earmark international players into positions on the field. The grease on his ears is vaseline (petroleum jelly, a grease) and your guess is more or less correct, it is to prevent injury from abrasion.
To answer your question on the 🌼 it's a Daffodil which is like a yellow rose which is wales national flower. Why well it's to do with a Welsh leak believe it or not and the reason being both the leak and Daffodils sound alike in the Welsh translation and most foreign people thought the national flower was a Daffodil so it became it as it was recognised by so many as it was. The real story of the leak came from a battle our Saint St David asked his troops to wear leaks in battle as the uniforms on both sides were to similar so on the battle field our troops could identify each other by the leaks. It lead to a great victory. Why leaks it was the only thing around that there was enough to give to each soldier. Afterwards became a symbol of wales.

The finest singers as a nation coupled with the most unique and stirring national anthem…aaahhhh
If your from the uk you know this chant is the best and gives everyone chills listening to it
Welsh people can sure sing. It really makes the hairpin the back of your neck stand up and I’m English.
Not only 15 men singing but also 60,000 Welsh fans in the stadium also singing
I just found out that I'm of Welch ancestry.
This is a beautiful beautiful anthem
Welcome to the family 🏴
Thanks for focussing on our National Anthem - As a Welshman, there's nothing that makes the hairs stand up on your neck more, or makes you grow 6 inches taller than hearing this sung prior to an international rugby game...particularly against England, in Cardiff...😊
Did u know wales is the reason a lot of countries sing or have there national anthems performed at sporting events
The Irish play rugby as one nation, north and south together.
@@annfrancoole34 it's just the truth mate!
I am Welsh, and this always brings me to tears.
Daffodil is the national flower of Wales. The Welsh emblem is the three feathers - the Rose is the English emblem. The vasoline is just because forwards ears get cauliflowers from the contact in scrums and rucks - just like the boxers it helps reduce this issue. 👍
The 6 nations is a rugby tournament between England Scotland Wales Ireland France and Italy.
Swing low, Sweet Chariot - Twickenham - England v. France 2011 or jerusalem!
We like to sing at our games. Anthems, The Scots and Irish sing well too but the Welsh do have a fantastic singing heritage.
The six nations is an annual round-robin tournament between six national teams.
England
Wales
Scotland
Ireland
France
Italy
I'm welsh everytime I here it at the rugby i cry We are the most passionate fans in the world
Rugby 😂 it’s not even Wales national sport. Football is! Especially in the North!
It's an incredible anthem. The Welsh sing it so well.
IIRC the words translate something like this :
The old land of my fathers is dear to me,
Land of poets and singers, famous ones of renown,
Her manly warriors, very fine patriots,
For freedom they shed their blood.
Land! Land! I''m partial (=on the side of) to my land.
While the sea stands as a wall, to the very dear territory,
O may the old language endure!
:-)
You know the Welsh are famed for their singing and (poetry) when you discover that "Eisteddfod" is a Welsh word.
I'm English, but in my opinion the Welsh is the best national anthem
Best anthem in the World. Gives me chills, every time ✊🏽🏴🏴🏴🏴
So the dog is actually a goat or to give him his proper title Lance Corporal Shenkin IV - regimental mascot of 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh.
The Welsh know how to sing deep from the heart and soul the passion for rugby and Country can be felt godbless cymru.
4:16 that's when Guinness (the sponsor) were founded. Rugby is an old sport (dates back to 1823) but not quite as old as Guiness.
Irish rugby teams have always been selected from Eire and Northern Ireland. Even during the troubles they remained grown up and unified.
the six nations are the nations that play in the tournament , England , Scotland , Wales , Ireland , France and Italy .
Very nice reaction, the Welsh Anthem is absolutely fabulous, the big Gwlad GWLAD!! Really hit home, fascinating stuff 👏
Welsh and VERY proud of our anthem, especially at the rugby. Makes me cry with emotion every time I hear it ☺️ Thank you for your video
The Welsh are known for being brilliant singers and their love of music. All my teachers and my head teacher at Primary School were all Welsh. As a result Maths and English weren’t really a big deal there but music, singing and drama were. I loved it! 🙂💗👌 xx
best national anthem in the world
Find a Welsh Male Voice choir singing "Myfanwy".
Rugby is designed so that any body size can be accommodated within the team of 15 players. The forwards tend to be the stronger and bigger, whereas the backs are faster and more nimble, therefore tend to be smaller than the forwards. However, some forward positions lend themselves to being short, but stocky.
More Welsh reactions please! 🏴
The 6 nations is an international Rugby tournament between England Scotland (who have a little mini contest within it for the Calcutta Cup), Wales, Ireland (which I think Rugby Union is the only sport they play as a United nation), France and Italy.
It's played yearly in the spring and is well worth watching
National anthems can be really moving. The Welsh, Italian and French ones are really uplifting. The British one is a grovelling dirge to the monarchy.
The Italian one is passionate but it also the comedy national anthem. You can even do the Monty Python foot fart on the final note
I cry every time I hear this. I am Welsh.
❤️✊🏴
The feathers are the symbol of the Welsh team (the prince of wales feathers) and the daffodil is the Welsh national flower, the team they were playing against was England and both their national flower and symbol is a rose.
The meaning of the song is very deep and thanks for our freedom and our ansestors, you should listen to it whith subtitles so that you can understand the meaning
Rugby is a sport that has a position for people of all body shapes.
6 Nations are the participants: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy
The flower is a daffodil, the Welsh national flower. It is worn on St David's Day. He is the National Saint.
Trust me there is nothing, NOTHING compared to being in the Millennium Stadium when the Welsh National anthem is being sung - the volume (not to mention passion) is incredible, especially if the roof is closed.
TV can never do it justice!
Welsh lady here... genuinely can't sing it without shedding a tear 🤍💚❤️
Welsh people`s traits are, short and squat with very dark hair and fair skin. It`s to do with cold weather and exercise (Hard work)
We have the welsh flag ( the dragon) and for rugby we have the 3 feathers and for football we have the dragon on their hinde legs in a shield.
I am a proud welsh man 🏴🏴🏴🏴Cymru am byth watching from llanelli 🏴🏴🏴
The euros for football starts on Friday. You have a chance to learn about football. It's the 2nd biggest tournament below the world Cup but its huge for all of europe. They'll obviously be less fans though. Wales England and Scotland all qualified. Maybe you can react to the best goals or something. Although it's always better if you watch it in the pub surrounded by fans.
🏴♥🏴
Thank you so much for this.
Being of Welsh ancestry,it isnt so much the song, but the pride with which it is sung.
Yes, is very powerful and the higher notes. I'm onto all your great videos, I'm now a subscriber.
The British Isles are so genetically mixed there's not much distinction between someone of Celtic and Anglo-Saxon blood.
Not true at all
Hi, the six nations rugby tournament is played every spring between the six countries, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy.
Pssshhhh, we all know the Welsh national anthem is Bread of Heaven
