Call me crazy, but this game basically set Peach up to be a new generation's Barbie, able to fit into any setting while still being as pretty and awesome as always... Which makes it a little more tragic that Nintendo won't market her more, I mean seriously, Peach should have so much merch, that'd sell so well.
Imagine a really hard Mario platformer (think nothing but Darker Side of the Moon from Odyssey for the whole game), and it just happens to be a Peach game.
As someone who played Super Princess Peach when I was, in fact, a little girl, I remember this game so fondly. I was too young to really pick up on the gender stereotypes it was low-key enforcing and just took the mechanics at face value, and the game's difficulty turned out to be genuinely perfect for me - it might be too easy for an adult who has tons of gaming experience, but back then, I remember genuinely struggling with the first boss and having to attempt it over and over again until I finally won. My little sister and her friend sat next to me, and we all cheered so much and I felt so relieved. I still remember that moment even now, haha. This initial struggle made it all the more satisfying when I got better and better as I kept playing, and started beating the game easily on subsequent playthroughs. In hindsight, I do agree that it could've done a lot of things better, but I guess I was smack-dab in the target demographic back then, and I loved this game very dearly. Only thing that sucks is that you're forced to find all the Toads to beat the game - forced 100% completion is never good.

Tbf there’s a game being easy and there’s…. a game being basically just a Visual Novel. Like it’s fun, gorgeous but it babies the player SO HARD that it’s hard to even take seriously, *even* for kids. Like kids too young will most likely not even grasp the constant change of controls and mechanics to even play the game, but older kids will feel alienated with how little of a challenge and the game presents even at later levels. Like I don’t think people expect Peach games to be the Dark Souls of Nintendo (specially since Mario games overall have tended to be a lot easier than in the past), but throwing a couple of challenges there and there, even if optional, would help engage the audience more
Great video! Your conclusion at the end reminds me of what I like about Final Fantasy X-2. The game is flawed, but it does have a really good answer to the question "What would Yuna do with a chance to live any way she wanted?" The answer is everything! From popstar to treasure-hunter to warrior to sports mascot. You can still see her struggling with the pressures society puts on her, but the ability to separate those pressures from her own wants and values is what lets her thrive and be a hero.
I definitely think you are on to something here. Girls and women make up slightly more than half the population but the gaming industry doesn't really know how to tap into that. What pisses me off about the super princess peach the most is that emotion powers are rad and I hate how they are barely ever used, and when they are it's this
I haven't played but I was excited to get this game I thought how maybe it could lead into a fun series for peach similar to how luigis mansion is for luigi The thing that drove me away though was hearing how it's marketed for a much younger audience and how some people even said the controls just don't feel good to play. I feel like the idea of a stage styled game has so much potential, I'm not asking for a ridiculously hard game but something like the mainline mario games and luigis mansion They aren't too difficult but can still provide some challenge while still being fun Ofc like I said I haven't played for myself and I am relying one what other people said but idk I don't want to spend $60 on a game that might disappoint me
Tbh I think if you comfortably have the funds it would be a worthwhile investment. I really did have fun playing it, and there are some really cool moments. I can't GUARANTEE you won't be disappointed of course, but I think if you're just looking for a good time, you'll find it here.
I’m happy that princess peach finally got her own game. I haven’t played the game But it does look pretty good and I really do you wanna play princess peach Showtime and also very soon. I’ll be thinking about playing Super Mario 3-D world on my Nintendo switch and I’ll be playing Princess Peach in that game because princess peach is my favourite character in the game, and I love her so much and I really wish that he does get a bit more respect in the video games rather than being called a dumbass in distress and yes, Princess Peach, is a Badass in the game, but she developed to be a badass in the video games but yeah, I will be playing some games as princess peach soon.
Still mad that Perry's story was never truly resolved. As much as I loved the game, Super Princess Peach should have had an extra true story ending that revolved around the guys that screwed Perry and his gramps over. It could have been the 100% reward or something.
While yes, she is great in "Mario 2" and she gets the float ability from that, I don't think it counts since it's a reskin of Doki Doki Panic. This is the reason I call that game Doki Mario
princess peach protected pipe plungers from peril. powered by priceless prowess and a perfect plan, she provided proudness, performing level up processes👍
I've seen Princess Peach Showtime described as Balan Wonderland But Good, and honestly I can't even argue. The game is delightful, as a grown 33 year old man, though sometimes I think some costumes and playstyles are better than others. Like, the Ninja is really good, whereas the Cowpoke felt a little half-baked. Overall, the game is remarkably charming and if my vote counts for anything, I give it a 8/10.
The thing I find interesting about calling Showtime 'cute' is... well, yeah. That's true of a lot of Mario games. This game is cute, but so is Mario Sunshine, and Odyssey, and 3D Land, and a whole bunch of others. But because it's a cute Mario game that stars a female protagonist, suddenly calling it 'cute' becomes a much more loaded term. I'll be honest, I didn't buy Showtime, but that's just because it's one of many new games I haven't bought over the last few years while I try and work through my gaming backlog, along with other big Nintendo franchise entries like Tears of the Kingdom, Three Houses, the last two (I think) generations of Pokemon... But I did play the demo, and that was enough to make me want to get it at some point. Just, not quite yet.
I didn’t buy the game because I just don’t have the time to play it and for NO OTHER REASON, but if it featured Mario I don’t think I would even have wanted it
Princess Peach Showtime is a wonderful game and I’m a boy that likes a game that appealed to young girls. So I think people thought it was too girly. And that’s just annoying.
The blue in the corner of your pfp keeps making me think you have a new video cause a little blue dot pops up in the same corner when someone has a new video 😂
Male gamer, here. Peach Showtime, as a game I haven't played, is such a disappointment to me because of the simplicity. The first full trailer excited me at the prospect of Peach wearing cool outfits that gave her cool new abilities. But then more footage was shown, and it was just a basic variety game with no depth. And making Mario the lead wouldn't change my perception on this kind of game. I like Peach. She's a delightful girly girl who can get things done when she must. If actual effort was put into a Peach game with engaging mechanics, I would be all for it. Samus is my fav Nintendo protagonist, but she can't be the only female lead doing all the work for Nintendo.
Nowadays in melee peach is probably 7th on the tier list, but that's still higher than the rest of the mario cast. The Armada shoutout was sick. A top 3 all time player, most consistent of all time, and was #1 in the world with peach. (Later peach/fox)
Aside from a couple critiques like having to restart whole levels when you miss a collectible (at least what you already get is saved) Showtime is just a good, video gamey ass video game. Release weekend all my time was spent playing it and watching others play. Its simple but its a fun time and i like what it brings to Peach and the larger Mario universe. Grape is a fun villain for the princess, some really fun bosses in general, and girl really was rocking those costumes. Oh uh... In a grown man by the way lol
@@goombanna If it helps iirc this was actually selling pretty well from what I heard, top if Amazon's best selling games on launch but idk exactly how that list works. Still I think the game will do great, it's Princess Peach. Just in terms of online discourse, it just be a matter of the audience that would buy this game (at least at full price, I've seen the "i want it but on sale" a lot for this one) mostly are the type of ppl who don't spend much time on the internet discussing games. There's the younger audience you highlight, but I've also seen a lot of grown women who just had Peach as a favorite character since childhood be the most hype for this, like you. And I'm willing to bet that there's a lot more of that audience out there, they just aren't the ones partaking in online gaming discourse. Just women that are happy to see Peach and her name on the box, either for themselves or to play with a daughter or younger relative to bond over. It is tough online though, cause yeah the ppl who DO partake in online gaming discourse and l are loud about it are usually looking for vast, life changing dopamine experiences, which this game isnt. Its a video gamey ass video game, which is part of why I love it lol. I prefer simpler, smaller scale ventures like this one. Another thing is I noticed a lot of folks had this really weird expectation for this game to "explore/expand/establish Peach's personality" or whatever. When her personality is very well established, has been for decades. Its maybe not one some ppl like (and maybe for dumb reasons) but there's nothing to really expand or explore in a significant, deep manner, at least not for a non RPG title lol. All major characters of this series are simple, but some talk leading up to this game's release made me realize alot of ppl have an odd target on Peach's back specifically when it comes to this. I think some ppl really just want her to be something she isn't, and this was a reason they used to justify simply not being interested once they realized this game wasn't gonna change her up much (cause why would it?). Though I think its better to just flat out say one isnt interested and leave it at that, instead of trying to come up with some intellectual sounding reason lol.
@MagillanicaLouM I noticed that too. This is a mario game not zelda game. None of the other mario related game explor there characters what made them think this game was gonna be any different? Does any play luigi, wario, donkey kong or yoshi games to explore their characters? So childish. The mario movie may have something to do whit it too. The movie change peach for all the wrong reasons and now they want her to be this warriors princess. Which is why most people don't like movie peach cause it like the writer didn't respect who she really is. She the kind and gentle princess of the mushroom kingdom. Sure the games have story and characters have back stories but that not the driving force of the franchise it the characters. Mario has the most popular characters that are fun, wacky and interesting in their own right. Anyone who try to change these characters are not true mario fans who needs to find something else instead of forcing there own selfish head canon onto characters that don't fit there likeness.
It’s crazy how Anita sarkeesian was seen as crazy and revolutionary in her time and now we live in a world where her opinions are generally accepted as valid and correct and a gaming landscaping that is actively making reparations for the attitudes and behaviors she called out… no one’s ever gonna admit that though
Hehehe... I love the way you made "frying pan" into a verb: "She frying panned her way back..." 😅 Really interesting observations in this video, Anna! I wonder how much Japanese tradition and upbringing has colored the character? I'm not sure (female) progressive they are in Japan? But that is purely my ignorance speaking - not a judgment! Thanks for this gem! Please keep them coming!❤
Acknowledging the difference in cultures when analyzing a game that wasn't made here is super important, so it's a good instinct to not judge something strictly through an American lens! I don't know enough about Japanese gender culture to feel comfortable speaking on it, but I think Nintendo must have a department that thinks about how certain things will be received overseas as well though, or at least the localization department might clock something that should be reconsidered. It also complicates things that Mario's an Italian plumber 😅
I must be a weird type of guy, because I loved being able to dress up and discover the different costumes in this game, and didn't find a single bad costume. I'm glad this game can appeal to my gender as well! Also, what's your favorite costume in this game, and what costume would you add if there was ever a sequel?
The reviews might only be a 7/10. But this game is selling very well. So we're probably going to get a sequel. And in the end credits Madame Grape's mask was visible so I think she will be the main villain in the next game. So the future of Princess peach is great
12:22 Damn I can't believe people still want more mario after the 96 games that released in the last 4 hours with his name branding and general blandness
I played the demo of this game, and was disappointed by how it felt like a "non-game" to me, due to the excessively simplistic controls. I think this game could have been a bigger success if it had a second difficulty mode with a more mature control scheme that didn't feel like "press A to do everything". Nintendo in general doesn't really support options in its games, which is a pity because they could have made this game appeal to both young and older audiences.
#Glorious #PristinePresentation & #SoInformative I'm excited for the new #PeachGame I always thoughts it was unfair when I was a kid that you couldn't play as a Captain Toad/Peach/Bowser more. How interesting a game if you could play the villain or the hero or just be a #ToadForADay maybe a handyman Toad in Toad village or a barman (I am both of these things by day/night lol, maybe the point is to escape not recreate the things you do for money/rent/way of buying more Reese Peanut cups 🍫🍬🍻 & #stoutbeer
Wow. Great video from a perspective different from my own. I almost want to buy the game now, just to help the cause. Don't get me wrong, I agree with your take 100%, but the price and the technical limits are difficult to justify a purchase. I hope that it doesn't JUST appeal to young females... but younger males, too. I mean, why can't a dude like pink?
Absolutely, it can be a difficult conversation to navigate sometimes because in order to have it you usually also have to make some generalizations and recognize some stereotypes! So while *I* think that every color is genderless (etc etc) it's at times necessary to recognize who creative choices are pandering to based on stereotypes. One day I hope that changes!! I like to think we're getting there :) And I also totally understand the price point thing - Nintendo is ROUGH with its prices regardless of how long a game's been out 😩I appreciate your insight on all this and your open mind! 🙏
I was really looking forward to it but saw all the reviews and play time and just didn't think it was a game for me. Could make Samus the main character and I probably still wouldn't be interested
I disagree that this is the game Peach deserves. It was okay, but even if it's not shown in mainline games, Peach has a personality. She's her own person, and I want a game that shows that. Yes, she can fight but also she's bland in this game. It doesn't show who she is, which I hoped we would see from a game centered around her. Paper Mario 64 wasn't centered around her, but it showed us who she is as a person far better than Showtime did. And it's a minor nitpick, but it would have been cool if her cowboy transformation animation showed her drinking from the bottle that she holds at the end, referencing her victory animation in Super Mario Kart. But Nintendo wouldn't make her drink vine again, so it could be Grape juice instead for family friendly purposes, since the plays were taken over by Madame *Grape.* Speaking of Grape, so much potential with her character that just leads to nothing. Since it's said that she has the power of Darkle, I originally thought that she is a Darkle Sprite, like Stella who is a Sparkle sprite and has the power of Sparkle. I imagined that she looked like Stella but with purple and dark blue colors, hiding behind the mask and cravate of the design we see her with in game. And I thought that maybe, because of her difference, she was kicked out of the theater, and now she came back for revenge and to enact the tragedies that they didn't let her create... on them ! It would make her somewhat sympathetic while still being an effective villain. And it would also be an effective way to show Peach's personality as I said earlier since Peach, being a kind person, could show empathy towards Grape and help her redeem herself at the end. But instead none of this ended up happening and Grape was defeated, gone like a damp squib, probably destined to never come back again.
14 Mario games for DS?! What about Fortune Street DS, Warioware D.I.Y, Warioware touched, Warioware snapped, Donkey kong jungle climber, Diddy Kong Racing DS, Bird and beans, Wario master of disguise, Dr. Mario Express, Yakuman DS, Tetris DS, and Mario vs. Donkey kong minis March again?
The list I looked didn't include Japan-only releases, DK and Wario-exclusive games that don't feature Mario don't fall under the Mario umbrella, and Dr. Mario Express and Minis March Again are a DSi exclusives, not DS
Don't know what other people think but Mario Wonder was not much harder than the Peach game. Main difference is the gameplay of each game. In a platformer there's more room to fail. If you put Mario in a similar game I doubt the difficulty would be higher.
Yeah, tbh whenever I read about the difficulty level I was like, "Aren't all modern Mario games kinda easy??" But I think the fact that Peach's game only uses a couple buttons plays a role in considering difficulty level, since you could argue that there are more button combinations in other Mario-led 3d games. But iunno, there were definitely times I lost hearts in this game 😅
@@goombanna i think the simple controls are there so people don't get overwhelmed by the different play styles. Would be unintuitive to drastically change control schemes for each version of peach. That's what I think
The bad guys aren't actors, but I see your point- though there's a huge difference between them running off and slowly vanishing, which is what they do when Peach attacks them with Stella, and them getting hurled off the set, like when she attacks them in her other forms. One is a lot more satisfying!
Goombanna really does understand but I will defend super princess peach here when you boil down Japan’s views on womanhood and how being womanly and fitting a stereotype is valued as opposed to in the west where it’s needlessly viewed as insulting makes a wild difference and at the end of the day peach was a walking cataclysm in that game and that’s awesome With princess peach showtime I got a bit scared when I seen musketeer peach and mighty peach because it’s so common women have to basically give up womanhood in media and have male ability in power and speed to be valuable while women in real life are treated like they’re unlovable if they’re not traditional but musketeer peach and mighty peach used natural female talents like deftness and precision while substituting strength for a tractor beam or speed for skill allowing peach to be honored AND feminine really nailed this game. with 4 people that use this channel and one of them being male yet we all liked this game: is a huge success and I can’t wait for more I love princess peach.
I've had a good time with it so far. It's going to be a s l o g to actually 100% complete (LET ME LEAVE THE LEVEL EARLY AND SKIP DIALOGUE PLS THE LOAD TIMES ARE W I L D) but finishing the game will be fun, I'm sure. That or it'll join the pantheon of games I've bailed on because I'm not ready to commit to banging my head against the finale 😅
never played super princess peach but a lot of people seem to like it...shame she was basically a side character in her own game though. nintendo just doesnt' know how to do female characters...like with their bs excuse not to have an actual zelda game bot sure why theres a need to even mention those other games since shes only had 2.

I loved this one, Anna. You should be proud of yourself. I know these ones are hard, but MORE please!
I'm pleasantly surprised you mentioned Princess Toadstool's Castle Run. I haven't seen any other video game youtuber get that part right. :)
I'm a Princess Peach fan as well iv been making vids of Peach
& I like the emotions aspect of Super Princess Peach since it's like Magic
What pisses me off about the super princess peach the most is that emotion powers are rad and I hate how they are barely ever used, and when they are it's this
Y’know what? The sword fighter Peach section made me want a Peach centred hack n slash.
Peach DLC in the next Hyrule Warriors game.
I haven't played but I was excited to get this game
I thought how maybe it could lead into a fun series for peach similar to how luigis mansion is for luigi
The thing that drove me away though was hearing how it's marketed for a much younger audience and how some people even said the controls just don't feel good to play.
I feel like the idea of a stage styled game has so much potential, I'm not asking for a ridiculously hard game but something like the mainline mario games and luigis mansion
They aren't too difficult but can still provide some challenge while still being fun
Ofc like I said I haven't played for myself and I am relying one what other people said but idk I don't want to spend $60 on a game that might disappoint me
Tbh I think if you comfortably have the funds it would be a worthwhile investment. I really did have fun playing it, and there are some really cool moments. I can't GUARANTEE you won't be disappointed of course, but I think if you're just looking for a good time, you'll find it here.
Fun fact, you forgot to mention this is a great video you created.
😝😝
I'll probably wait until there is a sale
Even in Peach’s first own game the male character had more of a spotlight 💀
Still mad that Perry's story was never truly resolved. As much as I loved the game, Super Princess Peach should have had an extra true story ending that revolved around the guys that screwed Perry and his gramps over. It could have been the 100% reward or something.
While yes, she is great in "Mario 2" and she gets the float ability from that, I don't think it counts since it's a reskin of Doki Doki Panic. This is the reason I call that game Doki Mario
princess peach protected pipe plungers from peril. powered by priceless prowess and a perfect plan, she provided proudness, performing level up processes👍
I'm glad someone had the balls to make a video about their true opinions about this game
Okay but heres the real question- Where is our Daisy solo game?
I've seen Princess Peach Showtime described as Balan Wonderland But Good, and honestly I can't even argue.
The game is delightful, as a grown 33 year old man, though sometimes I think some costumes and playstyles are better than others. Like, the Ninja is really good, whereas the Cowpoke felt a little half-baked. Overall, the game is remarkably charming and if my vote counts for anything, I give it a 8/10.
I just want more Peach games. fps, rpgs, peggle reskins, All of the above and more please
I didn’t buy the game because I just don’t have the time to play it and for NO OTHER REASON, but if it featured Mario I don’t think I would even have wanted it
Now I kinda want a Peach FPS.
Princess Peach Showtime is a wonderful game and I’m a boy that likes a game that appealed to young girls. So I think people thought it was too girly. And that’s just annoying.
as a guy, i felt cute figure skating as peach
The blue in the corner of your pfp keeps making me think you have a new video cause a little blue dot pops up in the same corner when someone has a new video 😂
"it's weird that the game is easy but it will be good for CASUAL GIRL GAMERS" girl wtf I can't 😂
I would like a game centered around Carmelita Fox
The funny thing is, despite everything Princess Peach Showtime may become one of the best selling games of the year the way its going.
Happy Saturday Always Beautiful Anna!!
I had a good time with it! I was a bit surprised more people didn't pick it up!
That's because it's nonsense.
Oh because I’m 9 years old and she’s my favorite character and I love theater and singing and acting and I’m a girl
What do they mean when I played it literally right after the first level it became my favorite game of all time
Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤
This was an interesting video, I really enjoyed it
Also, what's your favorite costume in this game, and what costume would you add if there was ever a sequel?
maybe I would play a peach FPS XD

I'm excited for the new #PeachGame
I always thoughts it was unfair when I was a kid that you couldn't play as a Captain Toad/Peach/Bowser more.
I like to think we're getting there :)
And I also totally understand the price point thing - Nintendo is ROUGH with its prices regardless of how long a game's been out 😩I appreciate your insight on all this and your open mind! 🙏
Good take!
OMORI MENTIONED!!!
I was really looking forward to it but saw all the reviews and play time and just didn't think it was a game for me. Could make Samus the main character and I probably still wouldn't be interested
You should give Metroid Dread a shot. Good game
5:14 Anna did u know that the vibe scepter is a sex toy metaphor
😂
I did sadly.
@@supersmashseandx1991does Anna have another account?
@@madnessarcade7447 no I just noticed it

@@supersmashseandx1991u replied as if u were Anna that’s why I got confused
But Nintendo wouldn't make her drink vine again, so it could be Grape juice instead for family friendly purposes, since the plays were taken over by Madame *Grape.*
Speaking of Grape, so much potential with her character that just leads to nothing.
Nothing against Peach but I would definitely play a game with just Zelda but not with just Peach.
I would love a Zelda-led game too!
You should do Mr l identy he’s very mysterious
Serving!
10:43 the entire game is a production they’re actors in a play of course there’s not gonna be real killing lol
The bad guys aren't actors, but I see your point- though there's a huge difference between them running off and slowly vanishing, which is what they do when Peach attacks them with Stella, and them getting hurled off the set, like when she attacks them in her other forms. One is a lot more satisfying!
@@goombannayou also make a fair point 😅

Goombanna really does understand but I will defend super princess peach here when you boil down Japan’s views on womanhood and how being womanly and fitting a stereotype is valued as opposed to in the west where it’s needlessly viewed as insulting makes a wild difference and at the end of the day peach was a walking cataclysm in that game and that’s awesome
With princess peach showtime I got a bit scared when I seen musketeer peach and mighty peach because it’s so common women have to basically give up womanhood in media and have male ability in power and speed to be valuable while women in real life are treated like they’re unlovable if they’re not traditional but musketeer peach and mighty peach used natural female talents like deftness and precision while substituting strength for a tractor beam or speed for skill allowing peach to be honored AND feminine really nailed this game. with 4 people that use this channel and one of them being male yet we all liked this game: is a huge success and I can’t wait for more I love princess peach.
Haha the option to skip was also something I lamented while playing 😅
never played super princess peach but a lot of people seem to like it...shame she was basically a side character in her own game though. nintendo just doesnt' know how to do female characters...like with their bs excuse not to have an actual zelda game
bot sure why theres a need to even mention those other games since shes only had 2.
