    Rest in peace Vin. This was one of the greatest games you ever called. You were the best!

    Scully staying silent for close to two full minutes and letting the pictures tell the story showcases his ability to say (or not to say) exactly the right thing at the right time. Today’s announcers would never dream of doing that and there would be banal and forgettable interviews with players happening within seconds of the game ending rather than a pause to appreciate all the drama.

      Stanley wouldn’t have covered the bag in time so Mookie woulda got a hit anyways but this timeline is much more dramatic

    10th inning at bat

  • @Jessica_Roth
    @Jessica_Roth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First time I ever noticed that, on the replay, you can see that as the ball goes through Buckner, 1st base coach Bill Robinson immediately points to 2nd base, telling Mookie to go there. After all, Bill isn't watching Knight; for all he knows, Knight got a bad jump or tripped or whatever and had to stop at 3B. So it's important that Mookie take 2B and remove the force, just in case Howard Johnson hits a grounder into the hole or something.
    The million little things that make baseball great. Including Vin (RIP) letting the pictures speak for themselves.

      @@samiam619 That’s one of the greatest HRs in WS history yes, but the WS was NOT on the line in Game 1 of 1988. Mookies AB was in Game 6 and the Mets were one out away from losing. Much higher leverage.
