Working in a university after I graduated, I was allowed to take one of these home at night and on weekends. In the early 90's, this was cutting edge stuff. The actual concept of portable computing was still fairly new and it felt amazing at the time.

It´s a NIMH battery so probably pretty easy todo.
You can get new cells with solder taps applied.
They can have a slightly different capacity as long as they´re the same physical size as the original ones (obviously).
Maybe you can share a few photos of the inside, then i could figure out the arrangment of the cells and maybe the size you need.
There are a few common types.

Awesome! I'm so glad the SCSI2SD worked!
Did you know: The displays on the 68030 Duo line are swappable. If you want to make your 230 a color Duo, you can swap in the active-matrix color screen from a 270c. It'll be a frankenstein machine with no visible nameplate (since the 230 has its nameplate on the screen, and the 270c has its nameplate on the keyboard upper)
Or, of course, if you find a 270c these days, you could restore that instead. 😂
Ooohhhh things I did in the early 2000s that I now regret....
Anyway, thanks for the video and the painstaking restoration! These were super cool little machines. Now all you need is the PowerPC version: the Duo 2300c. It'll fit right in your existing dock!

There was the time (2009-2011) I admired all Apple devices... I got my first MacBook in 2009 - the black one :) Then in 2011 my first MacBook Pro, Ipod, Iphone, Ipads .... But sadly, being an engineering professional, I cant use it since then as all soft is windows or Linux based. But what i can really say - old Apple devices were much better then those we see now in Apple store (quality, feeling, assembly). Your restorations - I watched them all - you do the great job, giving them a new life again.... Thank you for good videos and good mood.

I repaired few of those, few notes: The original HDs can be repaired a lot of times as the rubber stop on the heads gets all sticky and the heads won't move out of the original position. Magnets on the heads need to be taken off and the rubber stop replaced. Also these laptops were from a era when manufacturers used capacitors prone to leaking. So if you want to preserve the machine, the recap is a good idea. There are some capacitors in the display itself that are also usually leaking and cause drifting contrast or other issues on these laptops.
