Mine had a woolly spot in the middle like that last year, measured the fuel level and it was only between 1-2mm too low but made a hell of a difference when it was corrected. Great vid again Jim it’s nice to watch someone who knows what their doing among all the other toilet on you tube!

Jim, I’m sure I speak for the class, we would love to see a carburetor syncing video, or a throttle body syncing would be cool too.

    Verry good Intelligent Content.
    Thanks Jim.
    👍🏻😁👍🏻
    P.S.
The first carb is usualy most bad because The bike is leaning way left If It has his original stand.
The most water is thereby left behind in carb One.
There is only one fuel system cleaner i know of from: Justice Brothers.
That actually gets the Water out of the Flo Bowls and tank.
Maybe there are more products that are actually causing water to desolve in the fuel so It's drained out while driving the bike, +-15 years ago I tested it in a Coffee Cup and I Was very surprised ( Wyns fuel cleaner At that Time just floated on the water..)
I recommend everyone to use this product before the end of the driving season.
In combination with a good fuel stabilizer or a bit of 2 stroke oil, the carbs and tank stay Healthy.
    Bless You All ❣

Brilliant explanation RE the route you went through fault diagnosis. Reminds me exactly of my own carb R6. I know exactly what you mean about shotgun diagnosis however sometimes to sort your own motorcycle out, it's needed but only if you've exhausted all other avenues.
I've had a fault on my R6 when on initial application of throttle, sometimes it would hesitate, long story short, I tried all the usual, carbs apart, cleaned out all jets, galleries, set back up, compression test, electrical wiring, tps setup, pickup coil test, ht coils test, new plugs blah blah blah. Sometimes when cold it would start on 3 then drop onto 4 cylinders, other times it would be fine.
Then my last trackday, it was misfiring under load out of the chicanes about 4k and again at 11k and clear up.
Anyway, I got that fed up of it, I bought some brand new tourmax coils and the starting on 3 cylinders has completely gone. Starts instantly on the button like a brand new bike now. Yet to road test as there's no MOT but I'm hopeful it's a final fix.
I had to laugh at your 'it goes well' comment on road test, for a 21 year old motorcycle, they're still good pieces of kit.

Loved the R6 of this vintage that i had a decent test ride on years ago when they 1st came out, but i bought an R7 OWO2 (4 y/o) in 2004, now its a bit like a big R6 handling/weight wise, but goes like an R1, 147bhp kitted and its absolutely balistic above 10k rpm,.This video reminded me of an "issue" i had with it spitting a valve collet out and it jamming the valve open as it was stuck in the cam bucket, how it never dropped the valve i'll never know,. It started of as a missfire after starting and smoothed out further up the rev range, no guts pulling away obviously, the best part is i was mot,ing it and catching iom ferry on the same day to go to the classic manx in 2019, digs booked and paid for to all at great expense, mind f,k dilemma, to go or not to go, ? my son was comming up from london to, mot mechanic thought it was maybe fuel or plug related so i rolled the dice and went with it, miraculously it got me there and back and to the bike shop to be diagnosed, near miss or what !,. I could use your services to maintain the R7, my go to guy BMC racing packed up,.

Huh interesting I ordered and Tourmax and genuine Yamaha coil for my FZ1 and both were Mitsubishi parts I think identical but the Tourmax was half the price....... I didn't use it initially because I read about people getting after market coils burning out their ECU but I might trust it now (checking resistance values first ofc).

A friend of mine just gifted me this motorcycle that has been sitting in her garage for over ten years without starting up. Hopefully, I can get her running in the near future. She has very little miles since the owner was scared of the power of the bike and put her away. I want to document my 0% experience fixing her up. What would be a good name for my channel? I have absolutely no experience with motorcycles, but I can tinker with cars, oil change, belt change, and hose changes. Nothing really great. Just ordered my ultrasonic carb cleaner and some metric tools to use on the yamaha. New Sub, I really enjoyed your videos!

I don't know what you should call your channel, but the advice I'd give would be to get a decent camera and microphone set up. People always overlook the quality of the audio. It really puts people off watching if this isn't well done. The new DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo has been a game changer for me. It's so much easier than messing about with a bigger camera. Quality isn't quite as good, but good enough! And because it's small and light it's easier to work around. Thanks for your comment 👍

Late to this too but I was wondering if the valves were adjusted on 20 thousand miles and if it was the same shop that fucked up the carbs got the clearance on the pennies in the bucket between the cam shaft wrong strange that two cylinders have the same drop off in compression

Jim, wondering if you could give me any tips for setting the fuel level in the carbs. (2001 R6.) Can’t seem to find a reputable source for the proper float height from the gasket surface, and the service manual only gives a spec for fuel height in the bowls, and while it gives info on how to measure, no matter how much I change the float height my measurement always seems to come out the same. Any advice?

@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV That's kind of how knowledge is spread. One person or a group of people do the leg work and then give the info to others so they can benefit from it.
