    This video details the process of cleaning and inspecting the carburetors after normal wear and tear. They were leaking fuel into the engine when the bike was off, which is an issue known as Hydrolock. All I had to replace was the float needles and clean the seats.

    Bro, great video. I'm in the process of doing the same for my 02... It sat for over 15 years... I am trying to clean first, but it looks like I might need to add a new kit.
    Update: carb clean worked fine. Cleaned fuel pump, changed fuel filter and tank… tires and all fluids…. She’s running great…
    Just need to sit more upright…. May need to change bars…

    Bruhhhhh the tilt test on the floats is sooooo money! Even after micrometer there’s slight tweaks to be made if you are doing this test watching it very slowly one can move a hair before the rest or one can sit a hair longer. Niceee

      Oh yeah, the tilt test is pretty solid for not having to use any tools

      No doubt bench synch micrometer for the floats then tweak with this test is a one and done didn’t even use synch gauges ran on point right at 2.5 turns out air fuel mixture. Pulled hard af right through to the top. Dig it plug an play once you got it all coming off the float needles exactly the same time. Skipped the clear fuel tube test and yea just one two with the float heights at 3.5mm. Will Cary this along with me for further carb jobs 🙌🏻

    Note. There will NOT be a o-ring in the fuel seat. Unless the rubber is not on the needle valve. Rubber tip on needle valve, no o-ring seat.

    Per Ivan’s jet kit install using a micrometer is 3-3.5 from the mating surface of the gasket to the top of the float at its highest point. One of the floats on each one on this model sits a bit higher then the other I think the left side is a touch higher then the right so I measured all the left sides at its highest point. These carbs are def different then zx9 and r1 carbs the way the floats are designed typically both floats are exactly the same on each side if not you tweak it that way. Any word on if they should both be the same. All seemed to be the same a tad higher on the left and it’s plastic not a metal tab so I figured it’s by design the way it sits in the carb bowl 🤔 curious also if anyone can confirm the 3-3.5 instead of the fuel clear tube method which is a real pain! I’ll do a fuel tube method on one of these and confirm if no response for future carb work help

    Good video it came in handy tonight. One question, Are you supposed to see light through the main jet (the bigger one) also? I understand it has a lot of holes around the jet but is the guitar string supposed to go straight through it like it did with the pilot jet?

    • @LegitRaceCraft
      @LegitRaceCraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the main jet would just need a little cleaning though. It generally isn't clogged since it has a larger inside diameter than the pilot jet.

    i have an issue on my r6 2000, i can be driving for 1 - 2 hours and it dies, cant start it again but if i wait for 10 - 30 min i can drive again, before it dies it gives this darker sound and u can feel there is no respond from the throttle , if i pull the clutch the engine will shut down, this have happen mostly after refueling but also with out refueling, did blow some of the vacuum hoses cuse the fuel cap was hard to open after a ride, does this sound familiar to you

    • @iamsboniso

      Same problem here. To me it feels like it over floats if something like that exists, i slowly rev it hopefully burning up the excess fuel and after that continue with the ride

      This happened to me. I drained the oil. It had fuel in it, which made it lose oil pressure when hot. The loss of oil pressure caused limp mode. Easy quick fix. Drain and fill oil. Hope this helps.

    What reference points do you use to measure float level?

    • @LegitRaceCraft
      @LegitRaceCraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't measure the float level unless there is an issue with it, and then I check what it should be for that specific motorcycle. Of all the carbs I've worked on they run perfectly after a thorough cleaning.

    • @LegitRaceCraft
      @LegitRaceCraft  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MValasra Do you mean the overflow tube that comes out of the carbs? I don't remember the r6 having an overflow tube. What vent do you mean?

    • @ThicTurbo
      @ThicTurbo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hournine Racecraft it's the t thing something similar to this www.r6messagenet.com/forums/r6-maintenance-technical/156515-2001-fuel-leak-problem.html#/topics/156515?page=1

    • @LegitRaceCraft
      @LegitRaceCraft  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MValasra ah. Well I would take them apart again and tilt them to see if all if the floats pivot in unison. You probably have a float stuck in the down position so it doesn't shut off the flow of fuel into the carbs and fuel gets forced out of the overflow tube. The float should lift and push the float needle down to cut off fuel as the bowl fills. If the float is stuck down then it will just keep filling. Inspect the float pins, and inspect the float needle. The needle should be able to move unrestricted, and the point on the bottom should be clean of debris that could keep the needle from seating all the way.

    • @ThicTurbo
      @ThicTurbo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for responding, this issue occurred after cleaning the carbs before it was perfect and there was no fuel leaking, I will try the stuff you stated and hope for the best, is there anything else that could also be causing this issue?

    • @LegitRaceCraft

      I don't remember needing to adjust it on this bike so I didn't mention it in the video. In the past I've cleaned the float pin that the float pivots on and that fixed float issues, and other times I've cleaned or replaced the float needle that kept sticking

    • @fwh79FOXR6
      @fwh79FOXR6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vkotis Carbs actually atomize fuel much better than injection. They just can not adapt to weather changes in real time like fuel injection does. You spend time tuning your carbs and a few days later the weather is different, ruining your good tune.

    • @vkotis
      @vkotis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fwh79FOXR6 I understand that maybe that was the case like 20 years ago, but is that true nowadays with the technology involved in designing these new fuel injectors? I know nothing about fuel injection, just trying to understand further.

    • @fwh79FOXR6
      @fwh79FOXR6 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@vkotis Yes, it is still true to this day. I would say motorcycles have a better set up with the dual fuel injector per cylinder setup. The secondary injectors actually spray into the ventures, which gives the fuel more time to atomize and mix with the air molecules. Fuel injection appears to be a fine spray of fuel. However, the fuel droplets contained in that high pressure spray are still much larger than the fuel droplets released from a carb. I'm not sure how fuel injection and carbs compare to direct injection. DI is very high pressure, usually over 1000 psi. I would would think that DI has the best atomization, but that may not be true when you consider how late the fuel is allowed to mix with the air inside of the cylinder. Any ways... back to the carb vs injection. My 1990 Mustang has factory fuel injection. That 5.0 engine with fuel injection will typically always make more torque than the same 5.0 engine with a carb. The carb has a tendency to consistently make more high rpm horsepower output. That is the biggest difference between carbs and injection. Carbs make more top end power and fuel injection makes more low speed torque.

The tilt test I’ve troubleshot a ton of carbs and never heard of it until this vid and it’s soo freaking clutch man when your setting float heights. A digital micrometer then this test really helps you from pulling the carbs out and reinstalling about 10 times. We’ve all been there
