The most informative motorcycle repair channel on TH-cam! Thank you.
This guy is great, gave me great advice on my ZZR1200!! Big shout out
Wish you could tell us what you use to clean the carbs. I thought this is an instructional/knowledge sharing channel. Amazing results with your carb cleaner...
Second that
It’s Yamalube Combustion Chamber Cleaner
Kamil Smagorzewski , thank you
@@kamsmag 👍🏼👍🏼
its lysol toilet bowl cleaner contains 9.5% hydrochloric acid which is a purer form of muratic acid I've been using this stuff for years to clean carburetors for years not super secret sauce.. this is a great rust remover for metal gas tanks as well..
My go to carb cleaner is a good long soak in brake fluid, I find it works great for shifting petrol gum from body's and jets
Fantastic, it's great to see you working in such a professional way. Wish all mechanics worked in this way. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It gives people like me with no clue how things work, some idea of what you guys do💯👌😎👊
Good to hear from the surgeon again.
Great rebuild that on the carbs with lots of small pieces and it came up very clean compared to the gunk you started with.
Good Job!! You sure know your stuff. Just learned a little today and that makes it a good day. Have a G'Day Jim.
Life/Work balance is often hard to get to even out so great to see a video from you.
Hi I'm gerry just discovered your channel, brilliant, just wondering that carb vice you use ,looks a good tool did you make it ,or buy it where can I get one ,
I think it would be funnier if you replace the F Bomb with Muck it up, your cousins from across the pond love it when you Brits say this. 😂 Just a thought, my kids love your videos also.
First view of your channel mate. Very impressed. Subscribed. 541 more subscribers till 10k. Well done
I don’t blame you for not wanting to ride it. That Yamaha sounded a lot like my one owner GSX1400 K2 when i had the standard cans on it. Hardest carbs I’ve dealt with were on the gen1 GSXR1100 in terms of removal / install, especially if the intake and airbox boots have gone hard. I tend to bench test carbs to check needle / seat function before installing the rack. Anyways, now going to watch the Slack Bird
The bit about eye wash got me laughing so much, Recently purchased a very poor runner 1999 R1 in the process of cleaning the carbs had to make a dash in side for the kitchen sink a few times, Not fun 😂
I saw your video about ultrasonic cleaners for carburetor cleaning and you answered the very question I had; how does it get inside the passages. In one of your other videos you referenced that you use a substance from another industry to clean your carbs but declined to reveal what it was. I thought you might reveal it in this video, but you didn't. My question is, if you can't tell us what you're using to clean carbs, what over the counter cleaner would give us the best results? I'm considering using Chevron Techron as my cleaning solution for 2 reasons. 1. It has PEA in the formula which is supposed to be good for removing deposits, and 2. Jaguar specified adding a bottle at oil change when I worked at a Jaguar dealer. I considered that a pretty good endorsement. If you have a better recommendation, I woulddvalue your advice. If not, I understand, with today's climate of wanting to bring legal action for just about anything. In any case, I really value your videos. I just brought home a 2005 Yamaha YZF600R with 4300 miles, absolute creampuff, but runs terrible. Previous owner stated carbs had been cleaned, but after watching your channel, I suspect they weren't done properly, and I am looking forward to opening them up, now that I know what to look for from watching your channel. Thanks for your time and effort!
I've had great success cleaning carbs in ethylene glycol based antifreeze, neat, in an ultrasonic cleaner.
Cheap and readily available. I leave out anything that's not metal, aluminium or brass, not sure if antifreeze is bad for them but, usually, the rubber/plastic is old/brittle so not taking a chance, especially if no longer available to replace.
You're always the best! Still big thank you for the ABS removal on my GS... I'm probably a teeny tiny part of the reason why you've been so busy this summer 😃 Thanks Jim!
great video, but does any1 know what the carb cleaner is, didn't hear it mentioned, cheeeeeer's
*Yamaha Combustion Chamber Cleaner would give it a go make sure you don't leave any o-rings and/or seals*
Aris Torm Now’ve said it I see a lot of people use it for carb cleaning with great results. Only trouble, I do not see this stuff available in the UK...
Are you sure I seen it on ebay I think.
Hi man can you tell what the carb cleaner is. Seems to be good stuff. Regards from Sweden.
8:23 Say hello to ethanol fuel. Nasty nasty stuff.
Neither is the link to merch
I never reuse old rubbers. Always slip a new one on
does it not matter that you have mixed all the jets and needles up
No, it's not an issue. Sometimes, different cylinders have different size main jets, but apart from that, everything is interchangeable.
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV thanks for the info ,I was always told never to mix them up
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV I've had several bike where the emulsion tubes are also different, outer to inner.
And my RVF has different front to back obviously to account for temp differences.
Its easy to miss, the holes in the tubes are just slightly different arrangement and height.
Welcome Back. Always look forward to your content, please be aware how much I enjoy the thoughtful, methodical and clean approach that you take to your work. I'd be happy to have you work on my bike. Thank You.
Sounds like a GS on tickover :)
Combustion Chamber Cleaner for the win! Looks like SeaFoam from the top of the can ;)

Great video Jim, I hate working on carbs🤣
Hope you get more time for more vids, they are the only bike vids worth watching.👍🏻
☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
did you just soak them in carb cleaner?
9:02……..main jets are not the same on all four carbs.
Yes.....I'm aware 😁
Thanks for the heads up on the links not working guys...
BENJI: Just fixed it Jim :-)
Very good job! So what is the carb cleaner you use. I am about to do the same on an xjr 1300. Thanks
@@kamsmag Unicorn Piss and ground up hens teeth :) Sorry Dude is a closely guarded secret.

Just out of interest, How much did this cost the customer?
Great to see you back, nice looking outfit.
Can you tell me what you use to clean the carbs or do you sell it as I'd happily buy some from you.
Links should work now, Benji saw your comments and fix them for me, Thanks Benji :)
So what is the magic cleaner??
Ground unicorn horn mixed with fairies piss :)

Why is it bad to poke jet cleaners down jets ? Surely can’t enbiggen the holes ?
Yes its very possible to change the way a jet flows fuel by sticking something down it, they are far more sensitive to very small changes than you would think. Back in my racing days (when bikes had carbs) you could get two so called identical jets and they would flow differently. Its also quite easy to snap off such a small spiky thing down inside the jet!
Interesting. My bike is a 2002 CB500 so carbs still a thing for me, but never tried to clean them, I’ll leave it to the professionals.
*K & L carb cleaner kit you an find it online have used one for years* BE careful not to enlarge the pilot jet size using it.
No swearing please Jim my kids watch these with me on the TV! :D another great video thanks
Shut up. Go and warm up some lentil soup.
@@kevinchamberlain7928 good idea
I used phosphoric acid on an old Lambretta carb and it stripped absolutely everything off it but left it with a kind of brand new but matt finish. Now I have a 1998 barn-find CBR900RR Fireblade which is varnished/gummed to fuck. I intend using the old phosphoric trick again, anyone got anything to add?
Supposed to be an instruction ..... what are the chems used ???
Nobody said it was an instructional video!
Fascinating and amusing video even though sidecar outfits are the very work of the devil! BTW Jim I own a bike that you bought back to life for its previous owner in 2016 and the bike still runs sweet as a nut.
It's magic!
Would your magic unicorn horn carb jet cleaner actually be rust converter?
Nope :)
I frequently rechooch em myself. LOL
I really enjoyed that thanks...
Just like a good read, can’t stop watching, your Tourette’s is equal to my own.
Do you share your chemistry on Patreon ?
Sorry I don't, I get it made by a chemist friend. Even I'm not 100% sure.
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV I’ve used Berrymans carb cleaner with good results but the nuke formula you use look’s amazing!
hi, great video.what do you use to do a carb balance.
Morgan Carb Tune...
Great !
That bikes carbs looks a lot worse that 5 years standing to me. Is it typical for you to spend a full day on one bike?
It really depends on the job, obviously some jobs take a lot longer than others. I Try and work my diary so I have all the short jobs in on the same day and just have a day of driving about.
Ooh old stale fuel I could smell that from here haha 😜
At a guess, I would say you're using something with some phosphoric acid content?
I do believe that ground unicorn horn has a high phosphoric acid content so you could be on to something.
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV wild albino unicorn? Or farmed unicorn? I find the farmed stuff just doesn't get the job done nearly as good, even if it is less than half the price!
Wonder how you remember which needle belongs to which jet. They sure have worn inniger time. Interchanging then would make it “uneasy” to sync the carbs. you wind up installing all new hardware anyway.
Needles are fine to be mixed up. The small differences in wear are irrelevant to carb balancing. The needles play no part in mixture control until the throttle has started to open. I've never seen carbs with needles that are worn so differently to each other that they can't be mixed up. Some bike have different jet sizes for the inner and outer cylinders so you need to be aware of that.
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV Hi, is it best to sync carb's at 1300rpm or 3000rpm, and if the outer carb's are jetted smaller than the inner do you have to sync the outer carb's lower then the inner carb's with them been different sizes, or just sync them all the same.. Thanks
@CBR F4R Balance the carbs at idle. The moment you start to open the throttle, the synchronisation of the carbs becomes completely irrelevant. Jet size has nothing to do with balance 👍
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV Thanks for you advise much appreciated it, been scratching my head all week thinking what I should do.. Thanks
Also heard it was wild hairy haggis urine it must be the wild one.
I would have at least looked in the tank to see what the gas looked like.
Just because it wasn't on camera doesn't mean it didn't happen! The first thing the customer did to try and get it started himself was to deal with the old fuel and the tank.
Wow, a youtuber who is so grateful to his subs and patreons (who appear to be giving him money for nothing) that he refuses to tell the inquisitive what brand of unicorn piss he use's, nice.
Haha...money for nothing, that's a good one 🤣. Nobody on TH-cam with less than 100k subs is making a penny of profit. Unfortunately good content doesn't magically make itself. It requires hard work and experience, equipment etc. Not to mention hours and hours of unpaid labour. My Patreons know the truth about the Carb cleaner, you're obviously not one of them.
All that work could of been avoided, All they had to was use the float bowl drain screws to empty the carbs of fuel before storage.
I Agree, in my experience most people can't be bothered to even check tyre pressures, so draining carbs definitely isn't going to happen! Keeps me in work though so I'm not complaining :)
The cracks in the rubbers are only cosmetic, they are really thick rubber.
They are dry rotted and have to be replaced as you get air leaks and it idles erratically.
Just to save people some time wasted, he doesnt tell you what he uses. Just another carb assembly video.
Haha 😄 do I detect a hint of grumpiness.
Bs
How is it BS? Please explain.
