Just grabbed the book! I discovered you a few days ago through your interview with Alex Leonidas, and I must say that I just loved you way of thinking and your use of odd lifts. I'm interested in a lot of different modalities, especially calisthenics and bodybuilding, but I've been a leg day skipper for far too long. Your enthusiasm for the Jefferson curl makes me want to train my legs and posterior chain again, and that's what I'm looking for in this book: exercises that are going to make leg training fun and exciting. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and passion
Thanks for introducing me to zercher squats several months back! I'm doing a non-segregated leg day and I'm loving z squats as my first lift for that session! I really love how easy I find the balance and technique compared to back squats. I can push a lot closer to failure in my apartment home gym without feeling like I'm gonna lose balance or have to drop the barbell.
Completely unrelated, but thanks for showing me the bb leg press. I work out on a ship with a smith machine and was able to make it work great! When I’m back from underway I’ll try giving the free weight version a try
Honestly the most game changing total body strength exercise I’ve ever done is the overhead lunge/single arm overhead lunge. Absolutely game changing. Turkish get ups as well
Some things I can't do. Mainly because of things that happened outside the gym. Old-School hacks, Walking Lunges & regular squats I can't do any longer. This is current over the last year. I had a bad fall in the snow that damaged my knee cap & caused the cartridge to wear over night. It's odd I can do leg press, regular sled-style hack squat, leg extensions(tho, with caution)without knee pain. But straight down pressure as in squats, it's feels bone-on-bone...which the knee & shoulder Dr said it is. So, I do what I can. I also have a reoccurring lower back injury from ATG squats from a couple of years ago. I can do SLD & Jefferson, but squats & regular deads cause it to reoccur on anything over 225. It's weird I'll do SLD with well over 225 & it doesn't bother it. I can do BB Rows, too. Then, of course I have the quiropractor induced spinal cord injury that drastically effects my strength on my right upper. That effects my neck training. We do what we can. People say age is just a number. That's not true. The fight gets harder. We get injured regardless if it's our fault or not. What makes the difference is if we keep pushing or not. 😆
Tomlucas It seems like anything that requires the quad and hamstring to coordinate over a good ROM is aggravating it. It’s not knee flexión and it’s not extensión by itself. Have you tried doing the starr protocol?
I've been squating since the late 70s. It's not a lack of flexibility in any joint or muscle. I've always had good form & squatted without heals & always well below parallel. I use to spend way too much time squating. 😅 At 190, I use to do 455 for 6 to 10(6 being my last set) completely raw, no belt or wraps & to the bucket. I'd hate to have my lower back MRI'd fearing the worse, just like my right knee being nearly bone-on-bone...when, originally I thought it might be an ACL. The specialist said my bones are extremely dense & healthy as is the ACL. There's just no cartridge. Left knee is perfect. But another knee specialist said, "Regardless of the X-ray & MRI, if you're walking on it with no pain, there's cartridge in there." I think my original specialist just wants the insurance money he'll get from a knee replacement. I don't know what "Starr Protocol is. I'm assuming it's fairly new? I'll Google it or TH-cam it.
@tomlucas i would go with the second expert because that seems like sound logic. Personally I don’t see why your cartilage would just leave your body cause you hit it too hard, doesn’t really make sense to me tbh. The starr protocol is a rehab protocol that fixes any weird tissue injuries you might have and gets you back into proper training. It worked for me on some tendon, ligament and muscle injuries and it might help you with the cartilage and also reinforcing supporting structures around the knee. It gets a lot of blood into the area and brings up any weak points that could be causing problems.
@@yoeyyoey8937You're right. It doesn't make sense. I do have a hole in the center of my knee cap. The cap helps as a guide for the tendons, so there's that.
@@atlaspowershrugged I get an insane stretch on my upper back from them, like nerves start tingling all over my back. Kind of unsetling, but also really cool.
Great for leg hypertrophy but not as effective as doing a free weight movement for real world strength and functionality. (Honestly almost any lift is better I do mainly pistol squats and lunge movements and can single leg leg press 7 plates per side for 4 reps.) Great for pure hypertrophy though

Add a nice polo shirt to your merch alongside the stretch jeans and you could really do big numbers among our Indian lifting bros
