If she traveled halfway across the world with him to face a secret society of trained killers, I think it's clear that she has to go wherever he goes regardless of logic. Seriously, normally when unpowered civilian friends get involved in these movies, it's because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, not because they deliberately chose to travel thousands of miles into danger despite lacking any combat skills whatsoever. The fact that she went to China at all seemed more like immersion-breaking "because the plot says so" than anything organic. The thing is, this issue could have been resolved by one or two lines establishing that she does archery for a hobby and has won a bunch of competitions or has literally any other skill that would be potentially useful in this scenario.

I was pissed about that bow shot to the Dweller's throat too. Part of me tried to justify it by assuming that the arrow had a Protector scale in it too. Maybe because the arrow has magic properties and came from the Protector it was drawn by the will to keep the latter safe or something. @@Dr._Atom The original version (from the Hobbit Hishe) had a character say “But what……….how did?” Then Legolas said “I dunno. I’m not even supposed to be in this movie” but that probably wouldn’t work in the context of Shang-Chi, so I took slight creative liberty

Fun fact: The Mandarin in the comics (and in various animated TV shows) wears 10 alien rings on his fingers. In this film, the rings were revised to be Hung Gar iron rings worn on the forearms (5 on each arm). This change was made to incorporate Chinese culture, and because cosmic jewelry had already been done with Thanos the Titan in the form of the Infinity Stones and Infinity Gauntlet.

She had a nice mini character arc that was done fairly well in my opinion. Katy was great support for Shang chi, and god knows he needed it. She makes his light hearted personality believable. For a kid who went through that hellish childhood, he really needed a close friend who would teach him how to have a "normal" life. I don't think Shang Chi's character could work without a friend like Katy. He'd probably be really jaded and a completely different person overall. Really love how this film turned the "useless comedic relief side character" into someone who's arguably essential to the plot.
@@whatiswhat8061 I think you fail to understand how writing works. A "character of influence" doesn't need to tell the person they are influencing what to do or even know what to do themselves in order for the person they influence to figure it out/come to a conclusion and make a specific decision BECAUSE of them. It was BECAUSE she was so helpless that forced him to be better. Think of it like reverse psychology. Her guidance is unintentional and at times accidental but she does serve a purpose of direction none the less of forcing him to rise to the occasion at times. Her role was to guide him by showing him what the grounded alternative is. An "ok" example of this is Rafiki from lion king with the scene "my work here is done" where he says nothing and timon was able to figure out on his own but only because he had someone to talk to and feel it out with.
Well even without sparring she was a skilled fighter because she observed the techniques and demonstrated it by herself for her whole life. After she escaped she probably fought against people and got better over time

The funniest part of this episode had to be either when Xu Wenwu realized the rings granted him eternal life or when Batman realized there was a question mark in his coffee. But are we sure Superman did that?
Eternal life isn't complete immortality not aging doesn't mean you cannot be killed and the monsters pulled out people's souls. There is no reason the rings would protect him which kind of ruined that moment for me as it wasn't a legit plot hole
There was no where in the movie that indicated he was a bad dad until after the mom died but even then he wasnt abusive, we never see him force shang chi either
I didn't like the idea of putting Wenwu as a villain. As the comments above me said he was not a bad dad. Maybe not the greatest dad, but he genuinely showing his love towards his family. All he wanted was to rescue his wife (sadly it's only an illusion).

Despite its flaws and awkward pacing, I enjoyed it. My main issue is the "secret society/organization that controls world events" trope. There are so many....HYDRA, Red Room, Ten Rings, even good ones like the wizards in Dr Strange, Eternals, Ta Lo, Dora Milaje, etc.
That’s what happens when you keep writing in stuff that your fictional universe wasn’t made to accommodate in the first place. It’s basically narrative spaghetti code
@@rifroll1117 Marvel's good at expanding a cinematic universe without disturbing continuity, but it's at risk of becoming repetitive. Would've been better if they branched off into smaller universes outside the MCU. Deadpool, X men and Fantastic Four wouldn't fit in this universe
@@Sthuthukile m8 continuity is one of the biggest issues in the MCU in the past 5 years. Important details get lost over the years in the minds of the audience but if you binge all the movies in like 1-2 weeks you’ll notice that a LOT of things don’t carry over or get resolved. Still the MCU was enjoyable enough for most people to ignore these problems but post-Endgame the lack of continuity is glaringly obvious.
The MCU was made to lead up to Endgame, and any illusion of continuity has expired by now. Now Disney is basically playing Tetris but they’re trying to change the blocks at the bottom to fit in the new stuff they wanna add
@@Sthuthukile with that said, I certainly agree that they should do alternate universe stuff to tell more stories like the X-men etc. Continuity might be more of a restriction to the kind of stories they wanna sell now

The funny thing is, even had the Soul Eater broken out I doubt I could have done much damage to the actual world. This is very much a mystic threat and Strange would probably deal with it quickly
The thing about a soul eater, is its exactly as big a threat as you need it to be. Interesting spin on regular vampires for your low level street heroes to vanquish? Sure! Scary looking threat to make someone seem on par with the big leagues! okey doke. Team up threat that needs everyone to take it down because its amassed so much power, sure thing!
*Soul Eater is flying towards a city*
Wong: Mirror dimension! and there's no gate this time!
@@garethhughes7430 But captain marvel 😑
Well, if you didn't know, the Dweller in Darkness is actually a Doctor Strange villain from the comics!
@@garethhughes7430 exactly! I see it as a Cell like menace. His power (pre android absorption) relies heavely on how much he feeds on energy.
If he would just have fed on the Great Protector maybe he could have gone onto bigger meals like super powered beings.
Shang's aunt being a greedy villain and claiming the rings for herself would have been an amazing twist
No it would'nt
How about the whole magical place were the bad guy and his wife actually in that place🤔
in place of a dark dude you would have a queen
Well, she is Emperor Georgiou.
I thought the plot twist gonna be that she is the real villain, she was jeolous of her sister and manipulated villages to not accept her sister and her husband. And at the end of the movie their father was gonna be right all along, she was still alive behind the curtain and they r gnna defeat her sister together or smt. But instead we got CGI dragons fighting.. felt like a kids movie at the end. Only good thing was ShangChi's father acting, he completely set the tone of the movie.
By the way, I think the rings only give the eternal life buff of agelessness, but no healing factor, impenetrable skin, ect. Otherwise we wouldn’t have seen him using the rings to make a shield at the very beginning of the movie; he could just rank the arrows easily
But like, isn't soul the life part? Wouldn't it make sense making the soul unable to leave the body since that's basically what natural death is (assuming you believe souls exist of course)?
@@onemoreweirdo207 no your soul isn’t connected to your lifespan
Yep I think it's just agelessness

OMG that ending scene! So true! She just shot an arrow one time and got lucky! There's NO WAY Wong would bring her to the inner sanctum and invite her to the avengers! LOL!
Wong wasn't inviting her to the Avengers, he was inviting Shang-Chi, but he probably knows Katy is his girlfriend/sidekick and that they're a package deal.

I think the eternal life thing was more like the way it works for Elves in Lord of the Rings. He can be killed, he just doesn’t age.
Definitely should have used the rings on the Dweller himself though.
It's more like the drain wouldn't steal his lifeforce because he has unlimited life. Some people say it drains soul, but soul = lifeforce.

I was pissed about that bow shot to the Dweller's throat too. Part of me tried to justify it by assuming that the arrow had a Protector scale in it too. Maybe because the arrow has magic properties and came from the Protector it was drawn by the will to keep the latter safe or something. Even then that's lame because it would mean LIERALLY ANYONE using those weapons coulda stopped the Dweller.

God damn it wasn't even 5 minutes😂

When you think about it, the only purpose Aquafina had in this movie was being Shang-Chi’s support character.
I'd argue she's a Jimmity Cricket kind of character. Kinda the character who pushing Shawn to do the thing he needs or supposed to do. Someone to direct his path since people aren't capable of figuring everything out on their own.
@@Hadeks_Marow ironically while her whole schtick was not knowing what to do herself. she really was just there for the whole ride for her friend cuz she had nothing better to do.
she was a great stand in for the audience tho
@@whatiswhat8061 can’t argue there
She had a nice mini character arc that was done fairly well in my opinion.
Was totally waiting for Wong to suddenly arrive at the final battle to save everything before saying “Yes! Wong!”. 😆

The fact that Shang chi's sister is almost as skilled as him without even sparing once during her training feels like a big plot convenience
She's not as skilled as him if shang chi wanted her dead he'd do it plus she had six years to spar after she escaped
Well even without sparring she was a skilled fighter because she observed the techniques and demonstrated it by herself for her whole life. After she escaped she probably fought against people and got better over time
I give it a pass, since folks like Taskmaster exist (probably).
She is a girl, girls don't need this whole training things, they are born perfect (in movies).

Love how the question mark in Batman’s coffee was actually made by Superman.
