My experience was , that I asked Lord if Anoiting Oil works or is just for the show because i was on Christian event and they were to anoint us with the oil. Lord showed me . I had anoiting with oil that evening on this event and it worked miraculously for me . Spiritualy it made me totaly different. Next day at work ,with special needs children , LORD was totaly in control . Fantastic experience , that benefited all who were in that work place , expecially children. Wow . It looks totaly natural and yet is fully suppetnatural. If somebody is amazing is certainly our God .
To me anointing of God, is spiritual experience where His will and power is at work . It's like driving or sitting in an ambulance car with siren on , all the cars on a busy road are moving to the side making space for ambulance to pass thrue . Like that is in spiritual realms , all strongholds and what not are removed in a way for God's anointing to do what He intended to do . It is such a privilege to be a part of what God is doing.
If the oil becomes the focal point, then it shouldn’t be used. Humans have the tendency to put the emphasis on the tool (in this scenario the oil), rather than the tool maker (God). There is nothing “magical” about it and there are people that can lose sight of its intentions and what it is used for. Practice gaining discernment and not be too legalistic about performing.
I was listening to the bible project podcast about the anointing oil few months back and they really go into depth on this topic, which i highly recommend.
What about James 5:14-15? How can you say, "There is nothing in Scripture that commands or suggests that we should use similar oil today"? I agree that is not the specific Old Testament recipe, but the command for Elders to amount seems abundantly clear to me. I look forward to your thoughts.
James doesn't specify any oil, just oil. Since the Jews were prohibited from using the holy annointing oil, but it was clearly a common practice to annoint themselves and one another, it stands to reason there were common oils for common annointing. Nowhere in Scripture does God open that recipe for general use. It seems like the early church would have gotten themselves stoned, or at least would have violated ths general commands to live at peace with the world, if they had used the Lord's personal recipe for annointing the sick.
May I ask why you've gone through the trouble of doing so? When it is stated that we are all anointed with the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ ? 1John2:20 Why trust an oil to save you, when we should put out faith in the Lord himself, doesn't this seem like witchcraft? Trusting an object to do something we should be trusting the Holy Spirit with?
@ It’s an act of faith. It honors Gods word Exodus 30:22-23 God instructed Moses on how to make anointing oil. If you read His word James 5:14-15 , Exodus 25:6 , 1st Samuel 16:7 , Esther 2:12 just to name a few. Do you recall David being anointed with oil? I honor God and no man or woman or unclean spirit and I use anointing oil whenever I go out to pray for others at the hospital. I stand on God’s word. Not worried about the thoughts of men
Without question, elders should pray for the sick with oil. Scripture is clear, not cosmopolitan. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: (James 5:14, KJV)

Annointing with oil is not that dramatic an act. I think there are many who make it out to be more than it is. On the other hand, the Church missed a great opportunity to show the Lord's great care by making so little use of it, in the way James talks about it with prayer, during COVID.
Matt 6:17 the oil in reference here is to do with looking fresh and not parading your suffering when fasting as the religious do, by covering oneself with sackcloth and ashes. The oil here referred to is also associated with fragrance oil so that your fast is between you and God, not a show of piety. It’s not to do with Anointing oil as done in the Old Testament.
Many probably haven’t heard the debate but “Holy anointing oil, as described in the original Hebrew version of the recipe in Exodus (30:22-23), contained over six pounds of kaneh-bosem, a substance identified by respected etymologists, linguists, anthropologists, botanists and other researchers as cannabis, extracted into about six quarts of olive oil, along with a variety of other fragrant herbs. The ancient anointed ones were literally drenched in this potent mixture.”
About 10% of the mixture, by volume, is this cane oil. I've heard your position before, and I've heard it refuted. I suppose it's possible, but if you're more than 20 or 30 years old, then you know cannabis is not naturally anywhere near as potent as modern hydroponics and selective breeding has achieved. So I suppose, is there any evidence the Israelites had access to that stuff, out in the Desert of Sin?
