You know, I think I need a big foam gear in my shop :) It just looked cool! :) Great tip on putting the epsilon in a flat tray to extend the open time too, I'll have to remember that one
I live in an apartment building with my own room and its pretty spacey. How do you recommend for me to dremel and spray paint since I just got a kitten? I used to sit by the window with a fan but I dont think its enough. I also have a filter mask thing but im worries about the cat more than myself. Any ideas? Cheers in advance
Hey Bill and Britt, Just how 'impact resistant' is Epsilon Pro? I need to make several prop weapons for an MMO-inspired webseries and would like to know if it would survive a month of stunt fighting. Budget doesn't allow experimenting . Thanx
@@punishedprops Cheers man, I did a test last season with Marine resin and FG mat and it took 4 days to wreck everything. Might just give them steel and increase the insurance this season ;)
Hey! I know this is an older post, but when working with epsilon pro do you need to coat the entire prop at one time. I am working on a guitar prop and don't have a good way to hold it up without something touching it
You could do the front and sides first and then flip it and do the back. You'll just want to be careful with overlapping material, but you can always sand it down!
PlastiDip is a very different finish than the epoxy. The epoxy can be sanded super smooth and leaves a nice, rigid shell. Also PlastiDip might melt this kind of foam, I'm not sure, but a lot of spray cans have that effect.
Punished Props Academy okay well that's good to know :) thanks for the reply! I'm wanting to make a very large keyblade from Kingdom Hearts and I think this foam will be the best way
Hey punishedprops, I would like to make a stun rod for Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker for my first prop. How hard would you think it will be to make it? I would like to make it to scale and to make a small sheath for it.
Hey great job, But wouldn't have been easier and faster if you would have cut the pattern out in your laser cutter? I'm asking the question because I just got the same full spectrum laser H series this week😊 just wanted to see if it can do it.
Hummm that's weird because I've seen other laser cutters like the once from Chia cut styrofoam with out a problem. so I figured since the ones we have are better I thought it wouldn't be a problem if you had the laser moving fast. but like I said it's what I seen, but I will sure give it a try this weekend when I get a chance to set mine up.
Why didn't you just put some hardboard or thick card between your clamps and your foam, since you had a bolt in the middle it wouldn't round your edges and you wouldn't be left with those nasty marks
I love watching you two make stuff together. It warms my heart
Thank you again for always sharing what tools and supplies you both use!
Shhhhh! Don't tell anybody, but I'm watching this at work :) Can't resist a prop shop video! "It's critical thinking and analysis I swear."
that came out great!
This is perfect. I'm gonna be making a giant boomerang prop from Inuyasha ane wasnt sure how to make it large but also lightweight and sturdy
Excellent...used this years ago in college with animation sets. Thanks for a great refreshers course!
You're so welcome!

For that kind of foam Lepage also makes a PL for a caulking gun that won't burn through it. It does have a long cure time though.
Scale it up to make a Vault door!
But way to cool not to do, right...right? RIGHT? :)

Is the epoxy coating used to stiffen the XPS foam, so that it doesn't ding or dent quite so easily?
Is that drill press laser guided? Thats awesome!
Awesome step by step idea :D
this will probably not get answered but how does eva foam compare to insulation foam for making props like this? is one better than the other?
Hey Bill and Britt, Just how 'impact resistant' is Epsilon Pro? I need to make several prop weapons for an MMO-inspired webseries and would like to know if it would survive a month of stunt fighting. Budget doesn't allow experimenting . Thanx
Epsilon is too brittle for that kind of wear and tear. For something like that I'd recommend sealing with latex or neoprene.

@@punishedprops Trying to find some rigid Creaturcast here in NZ , but short of a midnight raid into WETA Workshop, it's proving near impossible.
What's the surface finsh with Epsilon like?
How do I cut these if I don't have a Band saw?
A hand held coping saw might do the trick.

So is spray plasti-dip solvent based or would that be a possible alternative to the epoxy? Guess I should price check that, too lol. Love low budgets!
Can I use an electric knife to cut the shape I need out or would that ruin the foam?
How hard does the epoxy layer gets once it is hardened? Is it just to seal or does it give the prop some strength as well?
+Francois Duguay It adds some strength.
QUESTION, will the epsilon fill small details in gun props?
hold crap. it s gorgeous....my first heal druid mainhand. i love it
can i use fibreglass resin on xps foam due to the fact that i cant get epsilon resin where i am?
what kind of spray glue did you use? Or what would you recommend ?
thank you!!!
Waiting on the ep Bill and Brit finally break down and go "we have to rip apart the shop and kit it out again"
plasti dip also works for insulation foam even tough it' an aerosol paint it won't melt the foam
You two are my favorite nerds. Im a dork and look up to you.
Perfect! I just have to scale this up like... 100% for my Walpurgisnacht cosplay 😅
Woah!
Does plasti dip not work on this type of foam? Or is it more cost effective to use the epoxy? (I’ve never used epoxy before)

just a new quick question, can you use that Creature Cast Rubber on XPS foam? is it gonna melt the foam?
I'm pretty sure it won't melt the foam.
+Punished Props OK thank-you! :D
what do you do if there are any bubbles in the epoxy?
Punished Props can you do the same with a heat gun?
Whoo! Brit starring in a video for once!
She's the best!

Link to those nice clamps?
Awesome! Thank you
can you wait more than three hours to recoat?

XPS is amazing, I build a ghostbuster proton pack out of it.

iiinsaiii it would melt the foam really ugly. it wouldn't be a good idea at all. unu

You can get free clamps!?
woah helps me for my Kid Cosplay from bastion :D
I miss the old school "blue foam" the pink stuff doesn't sand as well in my opinion.
actually no. the cell structures are different. Pink Foam was actually created to replace Blue Foam on the market
Do a Roadhog mask tutorial!

Poor Britt never gets to wear gloves that fit.
That's a very large thing you got there......😏
had to mute this episode, that foam sound really...grinds my gears ha but seriously that sound is horrible.
