I was DETERMINED to get to Mythic with this deck. Finally happened today. I love this deck!!!
Man, it’s wild to see CGB go from “mill will never be competitive” when Zendikar was initially spoiled, to playing it un-ranked to mill Omnath, to now taking it through mythic.
the crab is arguably the best mill card in standard. Activating on lands, triggering twice to passage, etc. The fact it mills 3 every trigger for a 1 drop is insane when you compare it to pretty much anything else. Provides a realistically useful amount of extra mill every turn while actually being able to play your other cards. in fact, i see crab played on Arena probably more than any single other creature. it sets up rogues insanely fast to the point its pretty much replaced any need for zan lol. Zendikar has proven itself to be another tragedy
@@BigHotSauceBoss69 He initially tried to just make a mono-blue mill deck when zendikar rising began, but now it's apparent to me at least that dedicating mana to mill or other mill cards sucks. It's best used as an engine for other strategies like rogues or dedicated control builds, and no other card is as efficient as crab when it comes to that.
@@sleshstamp Since omnath will probably be banned today, rogues and adventures will take the top spot depending on what else gets banned. Even if cobra and something like innkeeper were also banned, which they really need to be, leaving crab legal will allow rogues to soar and take over standard like omnath has. It will be the same issue all over again. Wizards realistically needs to ban like 12 cards to fix this, or every ban is just going to keep leading to one or two decks dominating the meta. I think we'd all agree crab needs to go. Dream Trawler is still waiting to let UB control shine again. Torbran and Embercleave keep mono red and gruul viable for easy wins. Ugin is basically an "I win" button that costs 8 mana. Wizards is too cowardly to ban all of these cards at once. They will continue to pussy foot around this issue and allow standard to suffer as they ban the minimum amount of cards possible. Watch Omnath be the only single card they ban today, I am waiting to see the community absolutely tear them a new one, again.
@@BigHotSauceBoss69 Have to disagree with you there. Standard is CERTAINLY not good right now, but I don't think it's the cataclysmic failure everybody is making it out to be. There have been some changes in the meta with Rakdos Midrange and Gruul Aggro managing to carve out their own spots next to Dimir Rogues and Omnath in BO3, even if they may be tier 2 strategies right now.
Crab is not a problem by itself. We had Hedron Crab legal after all. Ugin was in standard and he was fine, it's just we have so much insane ramp to get him out there. These cards are powerful - but we shouldn't be scared of cards just for being good. If I had it my way, I'd ban Omnath, Lucky Clover, Embercleave... and maybe one card from rogues. Tbh that deck is really great when you're ahead, but when you are behind on tempo it's just okay. Perhaps the existence of the rogue archetype demands that crab be banned, but I wish they could balance the meta in another way.
Either way - Omnath must die for his crimes.
@@sleshstamp I disagree, rogues is an insanely good deck, it's going to take over standard now that Omnath and Adventures are essentially dead. It sets up too fast with crab, and can play an extremely cheap counter/flash game, so ramp decks without Omnath are too slow. Drown in the Loch and Mystical Dispute are arguably the 2 best counterspells in Standard and can guarantee tempo. Plus you can always add discard to the sideboard. Aggro will not be able to keep up with the counter/removal Dimir offers, almost the whole deck is flyers so board advantage means nothing, plus you have Vantress Gargoyle. On top of that, Into the Story provides a 4 mana 4 draw, Lurrus and Agadeem can reset your board, and if all else fails you have a realistic 2nd win con by milling. Rogues will replace Omnath and we are going to be in this same situation all over again. The problems with this format run deep.
Went from D4 to Mythic within 2 hrs of play during/after watching the video on the weekend night. Great brew, works so fluid. Frantic Inventory is sweet vs. Rogues and other mill. Finishing an opponent is usually about sticking a Tutelage then slipping an Into The Story.
Some changes I teched:
-1 Zagoth Triome, +1 Temple of Deceit (I liked having the Temple in my opener)
-1 Zagoth Triome, +1 Shadow's Verdict (great vs. Rakdos' Kroxa, and mono R Phoenixes, and Lurrus shenanigans)
-1 Heartless Act, -1 Bloodchief's Thirst, +2 Eliminate (I faced a lot of mono G and GW w/ counters)

What's your opinion on Maddenning cacophony? Mill 8 for 2 cmc or mill half the deck. Sometimes worth it when you get those 80,100 or 230 card decks

The best part about milling adventure is if you counter the adventure effect the card doesn't go to exile for the creature part, it's just burned and chucked in the grave where cling can snag it.
People complain about Ugin. People complained about Uro. People complain about Lucky Clover. None of those have EVER made me feel more oppressed by the pervasiveness of an archetype than I have by mill. I'm 100% willing to believe that it's the fault of the matchmaking algorithm, but I have never been closer to roping on sight than I have with Teferi's tutelage.

Crab, I can deal with with Removal, but I scoop whenever I see Tutelage.
Mill just absolutely bores me to tears. I'd rather leave.
To be honest, When I get frustrated by the game (always matching with Omnath, shitty draws, mana short, always playing second, etc), I pull out my mill deck and break somebody else fun...

I’m usually a brawl player so I don’t have a lot of cards in arena so I made this deck. I substituted restoration with mind cacophony and the flip lands with evolving wilds. I was in bronze 4 and I’m in platinum.

Funniest deck in the format x')
haven't checked but I'd try fitting in all the double-faced cards that draw you cards. Play them as a land if the crab is out, play the spell if Tutelage is in play.
The only ones that draw cards are Sea Gate Restoration and Valakut Awakening. He's running the first and the second probably isn't worth splashing red for, but who knows.
double face cards are usually tap lands, so it's often not worth it to replace too many lands with dfc

I run midnight clock for the reset and barrier breach for tutelage in my adventure sideboard for this very reason. MY TECH IS JUSTIFIED!

When you cast cling on a creature with escape, shouldn't you just let them cast it first and then cling it when its on the stack? wastes their whole turn (although you might prefer they keep the graveyard cards)
NorwegianQvirr if you let them cast the creature first then it's on the stack and not in the graveyard anymore, Cling can only target a card in a graveyard.

When they're fifty cents a piece it's still budget. Tbh I don't know the prices of these cards.
Most of them are lands though, and lands are a premium in the real world and your favourite game, how freaking amazing is that hahahaha
14 Rare Lands, 3 Rare Spells 1 Mythic Rare. Its still a 2 color deck so for real budget, you could cut all 14 Rare Lands. But Crab + Fabled Passage is nice to have.

Mostly that's just a natural response to having to deal with the fear of Omnath lurking in the background, Can't play around Omnath if the combo gets interrupted.

Noooooooooooo!!!! Now more people will play mill. Mill is the worst magic experience to play against. It is fun to play a mill deck but the worst to play against one. I personally think Ruin Crab should get a ban. But on another note, I never know what hair CGB will bring to the channel. But love all the styles!!!
Mostly this deck plays to Blue's main strength, Which is to delay, Besides, I think something more Omnath related should be first on the ban list.
