When you use egg sacs in the SR, make sure you got Blue in your arsenal. Blue eggs sacs are huge in the SR. I can sit in a spot and use every color under the rainbow and not get a bite, but as soon as I put blue in, bam, fish on, over and over. I also float fish.
I live about 40 miles from the River, at know that spot exactly, great spot in the River, go downstream a couple thousand feet and you will lose all the idiots, that is a great spot though...
The Salmon River is a beautiful stream, its a same that all the people ruin it.. The Southern Tier was on fire for walleye this November! I didn't even target steelhead until the last weekend of the month when the water finally came up. Ended up doing well for steelhead the last weekend too!
Salmon river is running low as balls at 185. That's half of the normal minimum on the guage this time of year. WE have no water either or fish. 360 os around normal this time of year. The rest for SR is super low.
I was up there early November and the exact same thing happened to me. No need to snag, that river is full of activity feed fish. I dont understand it at all. Also, I havent seen a game warden on that river in years so the snaggers k know they have nothing to worry about
You’re not wrong man that’s my home river. The snagging by fly “fisherman” is insane But nothing I can do about it so I’m numb to it at this point . I once saw a guy snag a steelhead in the ass lose it after 20 min and say “ hey they are biting now” . Now guys swinging for these fish in my experience not snaggers real fishermen
Just because you see snaggers adopting a fly rod, does not mean “fly fisherman are snaggers”. I might bottom bounce, indicator nymph and swing all in the same day. At no point am I “snagging”. A bottom bouncing technique isn’t my favorite method of taking fish, but sometimes it’s necessary. Especially early in the fall when they are glued to the bottom in the swift water. Using a couple bb shot and tumbling them along the stream bed while feeling for bites is not trying to foul hook fish. Dirtbags splashing a few giant pac man sinkers, doing a long pull at the end of their “drift” are the ones who are up to no good. Some bobber fisherman act like they are superior to others, it’s just silly. Seeing lots of bobber fisherman is a great thing, because they are fishing! I think snaggers are clowns. It is not hard to get a good bite from salmon or steelhead in that river. You have to learn what type of water to fish. You have to understand how the fish behave around drift boats and snaggers. Instead of foul hooking fish every 5 minutes you might have to concentrate and not pull just because there are 6 fish in the vicinity of your fly. Moving a step or 2 upstream or downstream usually makes the difference on how well your drift comes down to the fish. As any good fisherman knows, you will foul hook fish, and sure, some might have been flossed. I prefer a fly rod because it’s more versatile and I can adapt my leader and technique to the type of water I’m fishing, better than a center pin or float fisherman can. With that being said, I do not think I am better than a center pin fisherman because I fly fish. Whenever I’m doing indicator fishing with my fly rod, I know the better tool for the job would be a center pin for long range work. short range I am just as effective. That place has changed so much over the years. They need a drift boat limit. Most of those “guides”are 400lbs and have terrible etiquette. Great Video. -Tightlines
nice change of scenery......long trip for a few fish but that's the way it sometimes.
Agreed. Not sure I’d do it again. Really made us appreciate the fishing we have at home.

Some of the most beautiful water I’ve ever seen. And luckily we found a couple fish willing to bite.

It’s been a tough year for water levels.

Beautiful water, nice that you can call that home water!

Well said.
It would be great if you put an additional details on the rod and fly reel you are Using. Would be helpful for the new bee✌️🍺✌️@willsworldoutdoors
That’s good feedback! We’ve got a couple of videos that go over gear setups, you can find them in the steelhead playlist. Good luck on the water!
