I think one key thing for the figure drawings is that ideally you should include their faces and all digits (fingers, toes), especially for the long poses. I've noticed a lot of accepted portfolios include these. Your artwork is amazing and you'll be able to succeed whether or not you go to sheridan though
This is partially true. It's all depends on how long/complex the pose is. For 30s/1/2/3 don't bother with faces and fingers. There just isn't enough time to go into that much detail. If you spend time on faces and digits on the shorter poses, you won't have time for the bigger picture (gesture, volume, weight), which are the most important. Just like 2 to 3 lines are enough to indicate placements of things like hand and feet. You could look up shorthand method of drawings hands and feet, those are great for the shorter poses. 5 to 10 mins, maybe there is time to go into those details, just depends on the pose and how fast you draw. For 15 to 20 mins, for sure, that's enough to draw the digits and faces.
Thank you so much for showing us your portfolio and adding your personal input. This is so helpful to learn what to do and not to do in order to get accepted. So glad there's artists like you who do this. Btw your personal artworks are gorgeous
Hi ! Take what I will be saying with a grain of salt cause this is something that I took from watching videos of other accepted portfolios but, I think with the personal work rather then the work you put being bad or having mistakes, I think they're more so looking for personal work that is more related with animation :) Like character designs, visual development pieces, actual animations, background art, sketchbooks etc. I also specifically saw a lot of environment pieces where they drew for example a bedroom but drew the same place 3 different times in different times of the day to showcase how the drawing/room would look under different lightings. Just for an idea since you mentioned that you'll be applying again :)
i think practicing gesture might help, alot of what you show is still, or locked in time like that portrait, very beautiful just lacking the dynamic sublety or whatever that flow will give u :3 (im not a teacher just nosy , but good luck on your way!)
Question, does the continuation of the motion of the hand includedin grading? Because I remember hearing that the two frames should seem like two pieces of animation of a hand throwing an object. Pehaps thats why it wasnt graded well cause it doesnt seem consistant?
Your art is so good OMG, I hope you approve next year ♡ Tsym for this video, is so helpful to people how wants to get in Sheridan. I have a question too, can you answer what's the evaluation cost? I'm so interested on this college but I'm a bit scared about money andbsdbs
Thanks, I'm glad my video can help people who are applying! For the portfolio fee, I had to pay $50 CAD, but also double-check with other people just in case.
