No shit. Nurses were made to constantly monitor patients because doctors have 15 other people to manage, you take away the doctor and now you have nobody coming up with a care plan and the patient ultimately gets hurt. You obviously don’t work in healthcare.

Just say "I haven't passed yet." Don't take it as a failure but see it as a learning opportunity. There is a lot of power in "Yet"; you are telling yourself that you will get there and that your eyes and heart are still fixed on your goal.

I’ve read many MDs may not like the expanding role of the NP. This seems to have a trajectory of continued expansion however. I agree more NP residencies would be great training opportunity! Does Emory offer ones? (Not sure.). Sounds like you are training with a good doctor who is nice enough not to charge! Keep up the good work! @@Bri-nc8yp Was thinking along the lines of a post baccalaureate program or structured premedical curriculum for busy working nurses (and other health care workers) interested in taking/or re-taking expired premed courses and also prep to sit for the mcat for acceptance into a 4- year MD or OD school.
Like you said, it’s perfectly okay for physicians to feel that way. After all the years of schooling. But I feel it’s about capitalism. Also, I don’t feel comfortable with a new grad NP working without supervision. I would say I recommend new NPs should work under supervising physicians for at least 2 years. You will learn a lot. 2 years is too small for learning all the medicine things. NP school needs more extension and reform to say 4 years so that a lot more can be covered. PS: I’m a nurse but this is my honest opinion
Wait a np has less school and can practice alone no supervision but a PA who does more school and training and they need to be supervised but a nurse practitioner don't? I saw a NP for a few years my autoimmune diseases were starting and yeah she had no clue. She also said my gallbladder issues was IBS ignore my gallbladder and I almost died bc it exploded and had emergency surgery they said definitely I would have died in less than a day. They said we recommend you see a medical doctor. I would be salty too as a doctor and a PA. And I have mad respect they you understand why they are upset. I agree no training just jump in. Okay so I wanted to let you know this because I want to shout out to my nurse practitioners out there who are better than some medical doctors I've ever seen. Saturday I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms. So my cases are presented as normal but I had epiploic appendagitis two months ago which normally it's rare and can be caused by DVT blood clot now they never checked me for DVT blood clot they just said because I gained weight for the first time in my life that could be would have caused it. So Saturday when I went to the hospital I told him all my symptoms they saw all my oxygen rate my blood pressure was through the roof the highest I've seen it and it was actually 170 / 92 extreme amount of pain but she did all the results all of that my D dimer was 1300 so I have a bunch of small now they checked my heart they checked my brain they did all that I mean they're probably should have did an MRI but whatever they checked all of that and they said that it's in both my lungs more on my left side then my right my right has like four small little blood clots my left long has a bunch on the bottom which only collapse the low part which is why I had problems breathing. So this entire year I had severe inflammation due to my autoimmune disease and I constantly get ignored on a daily basis I used to be an athlete I used to never sit down I was always on the go I usually do 10 miles a day walking like I'm always on the go. For one year I was ignored completely ignored all the time they blamed my autoimmune diseases and said that's probably why you're in pain blah blah blah all this other crap no that's overall pain you would get not just a specific spot so it was a nurse practitioner who I saw in the hospital it was her that was smart enough to realize that how it presented was rare and to look for pulmonary embolism anyway and because of herI was diagnosed and helped before anything's severe or serious happened Grant is a little hard to breathe and pain royally sucks not going to lie. But if it wasn't for her it would have been way worse for me and I would have been ignored like usual. So shout out to the smart and thinks out side the box NP bc she saved my life
My son is finishing up his Fellowship in 2 weeks. (Finally!!!). He loved the NPs that he worked with during his residency and Fellowship. He did notice a difference in the education level with the NP who went to class at a university versus those who did an online NP program. Disclaimer: This is just his experience that I am sharing. The online NPs had to find their own clinical hours and voiced their frustration with trying to find preceptors who were willing to take them on in clinicals. The "brick and mortar" NPs, were assigned sites and preceptors. I know that every experience and school provides a different experience, so I am just sharing information about the programs he was told about. Good luck with your NP program!!!
I think it’s awesome that NP’s can operate independently, I actually prefer seeing an NP than an actual physician or physician assistant because NP’s tend to be more attentive, empathetic and thorough. Where I lived in Texas a lot of practices are owned by Physicians but technically ran by the NP. Texas tells you, you aren’t required to be under their supervision but after reading the laundry list of the stipulations and everything you’re going to need one on Payroll eventually (but that’s Texas for you). The FNP programs online and brick and mortar schools have the same curriculum, and they take the same boards. I have worked with both and there is no difference.
Having the same curriculum and how the curriculum is implemented and monitored are two different things. I beg to differ but you’re entitled to your own opinion. I’ll be doing a video very soon on a recent published report regarding the same topic.

Hi Chris! Where are you located? Yes many MDs and NPs charge students. There are companies out there that partner with providers and market those services to NP students in need of clinical hours.

I was assigned my first preceptor and she earned credits towards her np recertification in return. I’m glad I didn’t pay as she was brutal and it was all stress and not a great learning experience. I had to find my own preceptors remainder of program but I didn’t have to pay. I so admire your honesty and integrity on your channel!!
Thank you for sharing, I am currently in a dual enrollment program for FNP and AGAC-NP. In the state of NC several hospitals offer residency to new graduate NP's, I wish they offered the same for clinic or urgent care settings. I am unsure of which setting I want to work in which is why I opted for dual enrollment. I am hoping that once I start clinical it will guide my decision.
I recommend completing a residency with the VA. A NP rotated with me and I wrote her a recommendation and she got in. . She is doing amazing at the VA hepatology clinic. She felt prepared after the residency and they pay her an amazing wage. Maybe the doc you work with would be willing to help you.

We are better off working for the government than the corporations or physicians (I am a physician).The VA comes with bureaucracy but they treat HCWs better. GL you will do amazing because you are an advocate and understand the patients.

In response to the points you raised, I believe that overall, the health care system benefits greatly from nurse practitioners because they can fulfill the needs of many patients and at more affordable costs. The extensive education and training of an MD is not needed a large percentage of the time, and many MDs are not able to give enough attention to everyone on their long list of patients. I've been treated by NPs who work alongside MDs and my experiences have so far been good.

The physicians or physicians assistant has to understand the federal government is looking at the cost of care. Unfortunately, for them, it’s cost less to be treated by a FNP vs a MD or a PA. But please believe we will NEVER receive the same pay or recognition 🤷🏾♀️.

I’ve only worked with NPs and I don’t know what my experience would’ve been like with a doctor. I believe we have our place, and doctors have theirs. Thank you! I avoided it for years but floor nursing isn’t sustainable anymore. My body can’t handle it and that is what made me go back. I needed to explore other options. Think about it.
A Psych NP friend did a residency program at the VA and she told me it made a whole lot of difference. As a psych np program student, I’d strongly advocate for policies that require us to do complete residency programs so we can have full autonomy and equal pay as the doctors.

That is why I chose a state school. They’re cheaper and you can get funding through MHEC. Also your job might have tuition reimbursement.

I go to a state school as well but in TX and we get zoom lectures as well as clinical placement. I'm located in NC.
Kudos on the clinical placement. That’s the hardest part.

I chose FNP because I have no interest in working in the hospital for long hours. My goal is to possibly go into the wellness/beauty industry.

The physicians or physicians assistant has to understand the federal government is looking at the cost of care. Unfortunately, for them, it’s cost less to be treated by a FNP vs a MD or a PA. But please believe we will NEVER receive the same pay or recognition 🤷🏾♀️.

Kendra! So proud of you. Keep up the good work. I am finally done with my last clinical. Of course I have a whole bunch of assignments to do before The semester is over. I’ve only worked with NPs and I don’t know what my experience would’ve been like with a doctor. I believe we have our place, and doctors have theirs. At the last clinical site we did plenty of referrals. We all be need to play out part. And yes, I do wish me had more training 😢
Congrats, you’re at the finish line. I think I need to get my next few rotations with a NP, just to see their method to all the clinical madness. Keep me posted on your job hunt etc!

Thank you! I avoided it for years but floor nursing isn’t sustainable anymore. My body can’t handle it and that is what made me go back. I needed to explore other options. Think about it.

A Psych NP friend did a residency program at the VA and she told me it made a whole lot of difference.
As a psych np program student, I’d strongly advocate for policies that require us to do complete residency programs so we can have full autonomy and equal pay as the doctors.
