    Nice interview! It’s cool how the scope of practice and autonomy of NP’s is increasing.

  • @mar1987_

    Interesting interview but I disagree with one thing that he mentioned. He mentioned that PAs have "never been in the hospital setting" prior to starting PA. I'm a PA and I can say that we have a wide range of experience prior to going to school. Actually, some RNs have chose the PA route, but my class consisted of prior respiratory therapists, ER techs, paramedics, radiology therapists, military medics, etc.
    Also, doctors aren't "behind" us. It's someone to collaborate with. We see our own patients and do a majority of what the docs do. The exception is surgery where we are with the surgeon opening and closing the case. We have alot of autonomy but it's just certain laws that restrict us from practicing to our full potential (i.e. not being able to prescribe schedule 2 drugs in some states).

    I am 43 yrs old and I have 1 yr left in nursing school and to earn my RN degree. This is my 3rd career as well and have a systems engineer, IT background. (hopefully the last :) ) I TOO wanted to go to Med school but I committed to following the path toward a career as a Nurse Practitioner because I felt the timeline to earn my MD was too lengthy and not very conducive for a person my age! I hope the nursing portion doesn't weigh me down on my path toward MSN, NP?I'm looking forward to moving from being a 'doer' to a 'provider'. At my age, id love to enroll in a bridge program from RN to MSN to expedite the process! :)

    Hospitals and boards of nursing are now requiring APRNS working in the hospital setting have the Acute Care NP certification, even working in ER because of the acute nature of presentation,

    • @pbriggs860
      @pbriggs860 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not entirely true, many hospitals prefer nurse practitioners to be Family Nurse Practitioner certified so that the nurse practitioner can see both pediatric patients as well as adult patients. If a high acuity, or complex clinical presentation occurs the nurse practitioner collaborates with the MD!

    I can't choose what field to go into! I am stuck between radiology tech, medical laboratory tech/scientist, and nurse. I know nurses get paid more but the other two fields I mentioned interest me more, but I researched the other fields I mentioned and the people who work in those fields wish that they got paid more. Can you interview radiology technicians and medical laboratory techs?

    • @TheRealtalk5
      @TheRealtalk5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I was you, I would shadow. As an ER RN like myself we have to accompany a lot of patients to their CT scans/ XRs. I've talked to a lot of these radiology techs and they say it gets boring/tiring. Very repetitive but a very chill job. Working full time you'll learn it does matters how much you get paid, but matters even more if you're happy to go to work everyday.

    • @crush9197
      @crush9197 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRealtalk5 I think I will shadow. I currently have an internship at a lab and I am working with a lot of clinical laboratory tech/ scientists and they hate their job and so do I because of how repetitive the job is and it gets boring, I haven't talked to any radiology tech's but I have a chance to talk to some of them tomorrow because I have to get an MRI. I am leaning towards nursing though because I don't want my life to be the same every day. I want every day to be different and I think the nursing field will give me that because you have different floors/ specialties in nursing, so if I get bored I could switch floors or try to specialize in a field like CRNA, nurse practitioner or another specialty. I can't name them all though because I only know a few of them. can I ask you a question though? are you happy with your career?

    • @TheRealtalk5
      @TheRealtalk5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@crush9197 I am really happy with it, it fits me well. As a nurse you have so many doors and pathways to find what best fits you. I had to try a few other specialties before I found the ER is what truly fits for me though!

    Will the education level of ARNP change from MSN to DNP in 2025 or is it just CRNA?

    • @Gam3r5t93
      @Gam3r5t93 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think so, DNP’s usually get their doctorate in nursing if they want to become educators. Some might do it to become better nurses but scope of practice doesn’t change from MSN to DNP
