My dog recently got diagnosed with some sort of hip problem, and this problem caused him to be completely paralyzed from the waist and below, my dog loved running around and playing with random stuff, ever since my dog got paralyzed he hasn’t been eating as usual. He always sleeps, and doesn’t seem to be flattered by anything not even my company, we did get my dog a wheelchair so he can still run around but, it isn’t the same. He hates his wheelchair and I feel horrible as an owner seeing him this way as he was such a happy dog.

I recently adopted a puppy from the streets to accompany my dog that I had at home. At first I’ve thought they were getting along, but I noticed my first dog started getting less motivated to get up, slept all day, and rarely ate. The puppy tries to get along with him, but he neglects the puppy. I can tell my dog has developed some sort of depression out of jealousy perhaps. I’m really trying to find a way to cheer him up :/

Umm I believe dogs can get depression because there was one dog in Taiwan who made 4 suicide attempts and finally succeeded!! The dog kept trying to jump out of windows after being depressed from moving from a different house and made 3 attempts and finally died after jumping from a window a 4th time!! Her owners tried to restrain here for attempts even locking her in a room for 2 nights for her safety but she still attempted
Well yeah no shit the dog was afraid because it was unfamiliar to it, and the people locking him in would make him wanna run away, which is what the dog did. I dont believe that dog killed itself🤣i think it was trynna run away and not calculating the risk
Dogs do get depressed!!! I adopted a puppy mill rescue who was seriously abused in Taiwan. She was brutally debarked, lost her teeth, went blind from lack of nutrition and neglect while all the years she was kept locked in a cage. She had problems walking, eating, swallowing and her legs were bandy, but I love her and she is still with me for nearly two years now, however she suffers from depression when she has flashbacks. Her psychological disorders are no different to us humans. She learned to disassociate from her trauma and we noticed different personalities in her. She never recovered from the Chinese horror that she endured since birth when she was taken away from her mother and stuck in a cage abandoned and there only to have puppies that were taken from her, but she has found love for the first time and never leaves my side. I will be crushed the day she is no longer with me. But animals just like us most definitely suffer from depression and pain and the cruelty that comes from the way humans treat them.

My dog has depression. She has never gone through any traumatic events and has never lost an owner or anything. IT IS SERIOUSLY NOT A DISORIENTATION. My dog has serious dreression and anxiety. She at times refuses to eat, we give her plenty of food and water and we take her on lots of walks. She won't eat until the entire family is in the house. And she barks for about 2-3 hours each night before she sleeps. She is 4 years old and we got her when she was a a few weeks or months old (i don't remember but she was very young) in her litter she was pushed aside by her siblings and her mother because she was the smallest and most likely to die out of them all. She is only happy and relaxed when everyone is in the house. Of one family member isn't there she gets anxiety and thinks we will all leave her. Because when we all go to work and school she thinks we leave her forever. She is fine in the holidays because we are all here with her but in 2 weeks my brother has to go to uni and my parents have to go to work and i have to go to shcool and we leave her for 7 hours. We have no choice. What can we do. I know my dog, and i know that she definitely has anxiety. But she might be depressed aswell. This video feels like it was brushing off like its not a real thing. But it really is. Dogs are not dumb. At least not mine. They have complex brains aswell.
My dog gets depressed when I go to work. According to my husband she won’t eat and lays next to my door and waits for me. She won’t even go outside to pee, doesn’t drink water or plays. The moment I come home it’s like a brand new dog. Poor Pina Colada 🐕 she’s an emotional reck 😢
One of our dogs was run over a few months ago, and our other dog, the one who he was closest to started acting differently. He sleeps a lot and often isolates himself. He used to be an energetic puppy. Now, he doesn't even respond when we call him. We followed your suggestions, doc, but he hasm't changed. Huhuhu
When my granddad had a stroke and became brain damaged, his dog (a border terrier) would leave social occasions and go sleep in a bed alone. Going to a new dogo daycare center was also too much. Which made her really struggle getting there in the morning. - Today she lives with me (granddaughter) and is a happy pooch!
I would like to see an experiment carried out where an animal is given the freedom to stay inside from birth all the way to its death, with the door wide open throughout the entire experiment. I would like to know if, while its basic resources are provided, it still ventures outdoors and if it then comes back or not, with the idea in mind that it was never conditioned to succumb to the owner's control.
I would like to see then if these dogs show symptoms of depression.

My pomeranian had something pretty heavy fall on her and she got hurt pretty bad. She wasn't able to walk and we couldn't pick her up without her crying about the pain. She stopped eating so we have to feed her and she usually throws up a couple hours after. It's been a couple of days already and she doesn't seem to be in pain but she has lost all interest in everything. All she does is lay in the same spot all day and sleep. We can't really afford a bet and we don't know what else to do to help her. Any suggestions? oh and she's also blind. She was born blind but she's always been a very happy and playful dog.

I have a toyfox terrier named bullsie for over 7 going on 8 years. My mother brothers and sisters and I used to live with my grandmother until we moved from PA to NY about 4 weeks ago we visited 3 days ago when we went in the house he wasnt that excited to see us. I thought to myself this isnt like him all he did was lool at us and ran upstairs we never hit him always played with him and fed him took him on car rides everywhere we would go. He has always been very attached to my grandmother I cant even touch her arm or he will bite me. My aunt has another dog in the house but he is a baby and he does not like him at all he runs away from him or just gets mad. This isnt like him at all is he just getting old is that why he is acting like this?

When I first got my Maltese she was fine. She played a lot and she was very happy. A year later we were travelling to Scotland from England to visit family. She was sick in the car and it was like nothing I had ever seen. It was red bloody foam. As soon as we got there we pulled up at the local get and they said to just give her rice and not normal dog food. We had school so we weren't there all the time and my mum was at work. My dad was always on night shift so he would sleep all day. So she would too. She won't play much anymore. We try to give her treats like ham but she just guzzles it down without actually chewing it. She will be sick in the next few minutes. When we take her for a walk she gets too exited. She starts having the kind of doggy asthma attacks. If you pick her up and cuddle her and say "it's okay" she will calm down.
I just got a dog from the shelter who is repeatedly returned because all other dogs hate him. He's the sweetest big BIG German Shepard with ALOT of energy and kinda....Interesting. He plays hard and play bites a lot. We have another dog and had to keep then separate but now he does really well with our other dog he just plays a little too hard because she's a puppy (12 weeks) and he's older / bigger (2 years) he's so skinny I can see his ribs and we can't seem to get him to eat and he always seems sad or upset unless he's outside but even then appears sad. IDK what to do, Any suggestions? I'll never give up on my new baby.

What about after a miscarriage? I just rescued a Chihuahua that was pregnant and she lost her pregnancy a week ago, we took her to the vet where she was spayed and stayed for a week. She has come home now but is whining all day! I can´t help but think she is having a hormonal postpartum tipe of thing...? could that happen? and if so, how long does it last!? Cheers

My dog lost 2 pet-friends, which have been with him all (the other half) of his life.
Both ran away.
We lost both of them.

Rotties typically have hip and knee problems. A brace works wonders but can be expensive. Try 1 coated aspirin and if the crying stops after an hour it’s pain related.

My dog has a false pregnancy and she's really really depressed and I don't know what to do she doesn't act like normal and Normally at night she sleeps at my feat but the last few days she has been laying against me with her back and she wants to be tuckt on with me in the bed. Marque Dotson She probably misses her mother. One of my dogs was taken from her litter way too early at 5 1/2 weeks old, and, she showed symptoms of separation anxiety for about 4 months. Have you had your puppy examined for neurological disorders? There are some that can cause a dog to shake.

Um, excuse me? Dogs can live in flats just fine, as long as they get exercise and stimulation outdoors if not so much indoors. 'Living in a flat' has nothing to do with that.
