It's kind of obviously implied he was living "In Asgard" during his solitude, and thats how he formed it so perfectly. He's had a ton of practice. He just made lifelike illusions to pass the time.
Richard E. Grant's classic Loki is almost exactly what I remember from reading the comics back in the old days (cough cough some of us are pushing 60). The extensive use of sorcery, the grandiose gestures, theatrical laughter... it was a ride to be brought back to those memories.
My two complaints of Mcu Loki that I think a posted in one of the reaction's comments was that he wasn't as powerful as Thor and Dr. Strange and that he never got his awesome Flaming Sword from the comics so let's just say this episode was a pleasant surprise

Seeing all those Lokis betraying each other & President Loki getting his arm bit off by alligator Loki just reminded me that the showrunner was a writer for Rick & Morty, so that fun chaos was completely enjoyable.
My theory is that while old Loki was alone, contemplating his place in the universe, he learned how to create a convincing illusion of Asgard just as a coping mechanism for all the loss.

Yeah, that’s why imo the Pruned World probably does have other survivors besides Loki. It’s the fact, the Multiverse is extremely sensitive to Loki-Intrusion.
Besides, there are other characters that we would consider better survivors than Loki. It likely is just the matter that “Greater-Than-Loki-Survivors” probably don’t end up becoming Nexus Events or even pruned.

This show may have the best music in the Mcu. I also legit got chills and goosebumps when Classic Loki died sacrificing himself. It was an epic and emotional scene.
Mobius said that Loki’s purpose is to sacrifice themselves to show others their true potential. Classic Loki sacrifices himself so sylvie and Loki can unlock their enchanting. And really makes me think that they will break our heart and have sylvie sacrifice herself so Loki can become the good Loki from our MCU timeline.
I think it’s the other way around. I bet he'll sacrifice himself so she can escape and finally have a life. Personally would love for her to set out and meet Thor or other heroes from the main timeline.

Vote Loki's army were definitely all Lokis. The guy you pointed out with the braids was shown in an earlier episode - in the hologram with the Tour De France Loki, Frost Giant Loki, Hulk Loki, etc. Note also that they're all wearing green and almost all of them have horns or spikes on their heads/hats/helmets.
One of the greatest things about the “Glorious purpose” theme is throughout the entire show it’s used as a kinda sarcastic “is this really all I am?” But when classic Loki a man who realized all his life was pain and suffering said it it meant more it meant he finally was able to save people be the hero and find his purpose protecting others and that’s a pretty good theme if you ask me
I absolutely love Classic Loki sacrificing himself whilst yelling _"Glorious Purpose!"_ . He clearly hated his "fate" as a Loki but found it in himself to change and do something selfless. Although I wouldn't put it past Marvel having him survive, after all we know he tricked Thanos with a duplicate so he could probably trick a big cloud guard dog.

During the play (with Matt Damon and Sam Neil) in Thor: Ragnarok, they talk about "the time I (loki) turned you into you into frog" so I think thor turning into a frog always happens in the main timeline.
The high-pitched scream took me by surprise so much I couldn't help but almost die from laughter. Like... Tom has such a deep voice it was just HILARIOUS.
I'm so, so happy we FINALLY got to see at least *some* version of Loki onscreen as the badass sorcerer he's meant to be. I also really liked that both Classic Loki and Sylvie pointed out that our Loki can do this too -- but that 1) he doesn't believe he can (Sylvie) and 2) he relies too much on his daggers (Class Loki). I really hope he takes all that to heart and gets to show off in the final episode.
I truly hope some Loki variant won't be the one behind the TVA. I hope it's Kang or someone else. If I can remember from the trailers for Loki there were some fight scenes near or in the castle itself, and someone standing in the castles throne room.

But I also wouldn't put it past marvel to pull a triple plot twist and have it be a Loki only to find out in a post credit scene that he was working for someone else. Anyone notice the incorporation of “Ride of the Valkyries” into the Loki theme when Classic Loki illusion projects Asgard? It’s funny, because it’s a musical movement, part of the famous Ring Cycle, where Valkyries prepare to take fallen heroes to Valhalla and then sing a battle cry, which, techinically, the old Loki does right before his heroic end. And, if that wasn’t enough, in an interview I heard with Natalie Holt, the show’s composer, she basically said the shrill strings in the Loki theme were inspired by the strings section in “Ride of the Valkyries”. Man, I love this show.
I had 0 expectation for this show, yet it becane my favorite out of the entire MCU. Btw, Mobius studied everything about Loki, he even knows the other variants the TVA pruned... yet he has no idea about how and when a freaking aligator Loki is there. My theory is that the mastermind is a Loki variant who achieved his "glorious purpose" by having complete controle over time itself, and he mascarades as an aligator to fuck with the pruned Lokis to rid his boredom.
I refuse to believe that Classic Loki is dead until they confirm it. We're talking about the Loki that tricked the mad titan into believing he was dead.
Classic Loki is the perfect representation that A LOKI can change. That they can be selfless and put others before personal gain. Sadly the TVA thinks otherwise thats why they're sticking to their 'sacred' timeline where all LOKIs have to die early and prune anything or anyone that varies from that outcome. Classic Loki was able to live out his life relatively longer, and with it comes maturity and most of all, mastering his powers.
Classic Loki was basically all of MCU Loki but even after that releasing he lived a shit life and wanted to have a relationship with his brother it's kinda sad that he didn't get to do that but I'm glad he's shown the Loki we're following in the show a different way to live
@@lewanbroski504 indeed. Only in his solitude he finally realized how much his family and asgard meant to him... And when he finally had the courage to go back, the TVA got to him first. Our Loki initiating the hug with Mobius also showed how much he has grown. Mobius knows almost everything about Loki, and mostly the bad bits, but he still made Loki feel that there is good in him, and he can be. Clearly Loki appreciates him for that. That hug was one of, if not the only genuine/non-trickster show of vulnerability I've ever seen Loki did in the entire MCU universe.
So, the episode ends with an old Coot dressed in goofy cosplay, magically projecting a space viking kingdom like Queen Elsa to distract a giant, invincible smoke hound, all to the tune of Ride of the Valkyries. God, I love Marvel!
in all endings for Loki that we have seen, the ending for the old Loki is the best. In some way he fulfilled his own prophecy of "glorious purpose" with a bang!
Classic Loki was the mvp. He was so cool. I was upset when he sacrificed himself. Loki hugging Mobius was a beautiful moment. Sylvie and Loki teaming up was epic. I love this show.
btw they said that loki's are the most common variant so it might just be the fact that so many lokis have been pruned that they are the most commonly found in the pruned world.

What if Kang is a Loki variant? For those who aren't in the know, Kang’s whole deal is that he isn’t a person, but more of a collection of different time variants. Kill one and another just pops up to take his place. And what is this whole series about? A certain person and all of his time variants?
If Kang is involved, this certainly seems like a likely scenario to me. Although, I could also see the Loki variant being Immortus, and his demise unleashing the other Kang variant(s). The show has recited Loki's 'glorious purpose' quite a lot so far, and therefore I could definitely see Kang/Immortus being a version of Loki that achieved said glory.
Swear to god this was the most like Rick and Morty the show has felt yet. Especially with all the crazy ass background set pieces and the multiple versions of the same character all fighting each other. Here's a theory - Mobius didn't remember an alligator Loki becsuse they never pruned one. It was actually Classic Loki, hiding out in alligator form and projecting an illusion of himself as a decoy. We see Classic Loki translate for him (and he seems to be the only one who understands him), which would be a simple way to communicate with the group without dropping the disguise. Which means the Classic Loki we see die the end could have been yet another trick, and actual Classic Loki is stealthily joining Loki and Sylvie
Pretty good episode. Kid Loki aswell as the other “Variants”were fine but Richard E Grant’s version connected with me the most…liked him the best. I liked how even our Loki and some of the others were annoyed with the constant betraying and back stabbing that he tends to do In regards to finding out the person behind the TVA , I think thematically it makes sense for it to be another Loki Variant since part of this is about our version self reflecting on himself through these other versions and deciding who he wants to be but the signs are certainly all pointing to Kang. Ravonna seems to still believe in the TVA’s mission so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is how her devotion to Kang begins if that’s him.
I feel as if we connected to the variant played by Richard E Grant because of his backstory. It’s pretty much our Loki who simply made a different choice once Thanos came along.
Not gonna lie I'm hoping that the incident that Kid Loki mentions when he killed Thor, is from that one improv story in Thor 3. Where disguises himself as a snake to trick Thor who then picks up said snake. Only to have Loki turn back into himself and stab Thor
8:34 I would love it if they explored more of Loki's Frost Giant side, or at least acknowledged it every now and then. It seems like they used it for drama in Thor and then never touched it again. Actually since Yellow Jacket’s suit was shrunk down to the Quantum Realm, pieces of his suit could have been scattered through time. So his helmet could have been sent there.

The whole episode Old Loki is talking about surviving, not doing anything reckless, staying away from Alioth, and yet at the end, steps up to save Loki and Sylvie. IMO, he chose to do that after seeing their bond and resolve to get to the end of time. I think he was inspired by how reckless they were. Regardless, crazy episode. 10/10

It's probably all been said by now but since I literally only just watched it - the whole TVA and the three "guardians of Time" or whatever, totally Time Lords, protecting the timeline, in a multi Doctor story, starring Tennant and Whittaker. All that DW lore put in a very direct and easily understandable way - like the image of the branching timeline, instead of the old Vortex getting stormy/on fire. Exactly the show Doctor Who should be by now but weirdly isn't. Who knows how Loki might change the approach if DW gets another era, but I think "dumbing down" while simultaneously upping the spectacle seems to work fine here!

And keeping the timeline on track is exactly why the TARDIS takes the Doctor where he "needed to go," to prevent the past or future deviating from the Time Lord approved version of history. See the start of Pyramids of Mars, Tom Baker era, in which he takes his companion to see how the new future will turn out if they don't defeat the bad guy. It's always been about preventing a branching reality. Loki, the show, spells it out in a way that maybe DW should. I was agreeing with your OP but we might have crossed into an alternate right here! I absolutely love Classic Loki sacrificing himself whilst yelling _"Glorious Purpose!"_ . He clearly hated his "fate" as a Loki but found it in himself to change and do something selfless.
Although I wouldn't put it past Marvel having him survive, after all we know he tricked Thanos with a duplicate so he could probably trick a big cloud guard dog.
I mean, if they do destroy the TVA and create the multiverse then he is alive back in 2023 cause the TVA hasn't pruned him yet

I'm so, so happy we FINALLY got to see at least *some* version of Loki onscreen as the badass sorcerer he's meant to be. I also really liked that both Classic Loki and Sylvie pointed out that our Loki can do this too -- but that 1) he doesn't believe he can (Sylvie) and 2) he relies too much on his daggers (Class Loki). I really hope he takes all that to heart and gets to show off in the final episode.

Anyone notice the incorporation of “Ride of the Valkyries” into the Loki theme when Classic Loki illusion projects Asgard? It’s funny, because it’s a musical movement, part of the famous Ring Cycle, where Valkyries prepare to take fallen heroes to Valhalla and then sing a battle cry, which, techinically, the old Loki does right before his heroic end.
And, if that wasn’t enough, in an interview I heard with Natalie Holt, the show’s composer, she basically said the shrill strings in the Loki theme were inspired by the strings section in “Ride of the Valkyries”.

Btw, Mobius studied everything about Loki, he even knows the other variants the TVA pruned... yet he has no idea about how and when a freaking aligator Loki is there.
My theory is that the mastermind is a Loki variant who achieved his "glorious purpose" by having complete controle over time itself, and he mascarades as an aligator to fuck with the pruned Lokis to rid his boredom.

Classic Loki is the perfect representation that A LOKI can change. That they can be selfless and put others before personal gain. Sadly the TVA thinks otherwise thats why they're sticking to their 'sacred' timeline where all LOKIs have to die early and prune anything or anyone that varies from that outcome. Classic Loki was able to live out his life relatively longer, and with it comes maturity and most of all, mastering his powers.
Classic Loki was basically all of MCU Loki but even after that releasing he lived a shit life and wanted to have a relationship with his brother it's kinda sad that he didn't get to do that but I'm glad he's shown the Loki we're following in the show a different way to live
@@lewanbroski504 indeed. Only in his solitude he finally realized how much his family and asgard meant to him... And when he finally had the courage to go back, the TVA got to him first. Our Loki initiating the hug with Mobius also showed how much he has grown. Mobius knows almost everything about Loki, and mostly the bad bits, but he still made Loki feel that there is good in him, and he can be. Clearly Loki appreciates him for that. That hug was one of, if not the only genuine/non-trickster show of vulnerability I've ever seen Loki did in the entire MCU universe.
So, the episode ends with an old Coot dressed in goofy cosplay, magically projecting a space viking kingdom like Queen Elsa to distract a giant, invincible smoke hound, all to the tune of Ride of the Valkyries.
God, I love Marvel!

Classic Loki was the mvp. He was so cool. I was upset when he sacrificed himself. Loki hugging Mobius was a beautiful moment. Sylvie and Loki teaming up was epic. I love this show.
btw they said that loki's are the most common variant so it might just be the fact that so many lokis have been pruned that they are the most commonly found in the pruned world.

What if Kang is a Loki variant? For those who aren't in the know, Kang’s whole deal is that he isn’t a person, but more of a collection of different time variants. Kill one and another just pops up to take his place. And what is this whole series about? A certain person and all of his time variants?
If Kang is involved, this certainly seems like a likely scenario to me. Although, I could also see the Loki variant being Immortus, and his demise unleashing the other Kang variant(s). The show has recited Loki's 'glorious purpose' quite a lot so far, and therefore I could definitely see Kang/Immortus being a version of Loki that achieved said glory.
Swear to god this was the most like Rick and Morty the show has felt yet. Especially with all the crazy ass background set pieces and the multiple versions of the same character all fighting each other.

Here's a theory - Mobius didn't remember an alligator Loki becsuse they never pruned one. It was actually Classic Loki, hiding out in alligator form and projecting an illusion of himself as a decoy. We see Classic Loki translate for him (and he seems to be the only one who understands him), which would be a simple way to communicate with the group without dropping the disguise. Which means the Classic Loki we see die the end could have been yet another trick, and actual Classic Loki is stealthily joining Loki and Sylvie
Richard E. Grant completely and unexpectedly stole the show. What an emotional scene, culminating in the best of use "Glorious purpose!" ever.

Kid Loki aswell as the other “Variants”were fine but Richard E Grant’s version connected with me the most…liked him the best.
I liked how even our Loki and some of the others were annoyed with the constant betraying and back stabbing that he tends to do
In regards to finding out the person behind the TVA , I think thematically it makes sense for it to be another Loki Variant since part of this is about our version self reflecting on himself through these other versions and deciding who he wants to be but the signs are certainly all pointing to Kang.
Ravonna seems to still believe in the TVA’s mission so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is how her devotion to Kang begins if that’s him.

Kid Loki was drinking an Ecto Cooler. In 1989, HI-C released a new flavor fruit drink featuring a image of Slimer from The Real Ghostbusters called "Ecto Cooler". It was a repurpose of a Hi-C's “Citrus Cooler”, which had been around since the 60's. It is notable that Ecto Cooler was made in light of Ghostbusters II, which was in theaters when released. The drink did surprisingly well in some markets and continued way beyond The Real Ghostbusters run, and wasn't discontinued till 1997.

Especially when you consider how huge it was that he sacrificed himself by distracting Alioth for a while with his epic power?! The whole episode Old Loki is talking about surviving, not doing anything reckless, staying away from Alioth, and yet at the end, steps up to save Loki and Sylvie. IMO, he chose to do that after seeing their bond and resolve to get to the end of time. I think he was inspired by how reckless they were. Regardless, crazy episode. 10/10

This Loki series is like an awesome season of Doctor Who.
It's probably all been said by now but since I literally only just watched it - the whole TVA and the three "guardians of Time" or whatever, totally Time Lords, protecting the timeline, in a multi Doctor story, starring Tennant and Whittaker. All that DW lore put in a very direct and easily understandable way - like the image of the branching timeline, instead of the old Vortex getting stormy/on fire. Exactly the show Doctor Who should be by now but weirdly isn't. Who knows how Loki might change the approach if DW gets another era, but I think "dumbing down" while simultaneously upping the spectacle seems to work fine here!

And keeping the timeline on track is exactly why the TARDIS takes the Doctor where he "needed to go," to prevent the past or future deviating from the Time Lord approved version of history. See the start of Pyramids of Mars, Tom Baker era, in which he takes his companion to see how the new future will turn out if they don't defeat the bad guy. It's always been about preventing a branching reality. Loki, the show, spells it out in a way that maybe DW should. I was agreeing with your OP but we might have crossed into an alternate right here! Never mind, I'm sure I'm not the only one to have noticed the similarities, it's all good
