When in doubt throttle out. I felt like I was watching somebody drive a side-by-side for the first time ever. Barely getting on the gas while uphill in high range is a great way to ruin a $200 belt.
Bone stock? Sherp. Rokon 2x2. Razor. Defender 90. LC80. Unimog. Paramount Marauder. Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6. Oshkosh L-ATV. BMY M923A2 5-Ton 6x6. There are more, but that is a start. So, thanks for showing this Polaris out on your ranch in the snow. Albeit, I had imagined it blasting around on the open pasture as it was designed for, as opposed to slow and technical maneuvers, which it showed the belts smoking. Meaning, that is not where it is happiest. lol
Really the only reason to crawl in a 4x4 rig versus an ATV is for AC and heat (and you can drive them to the trailhead rather than have to tow an ATV). Otherwise these ATVs absolutely dominate.
Never ever climb a hill, especially from a standstill in high range with a belt-driven CVT. That is the best way to cook/grenade the belt and glaze the sheaves.
I think there was something wrong with that RZR before you did the hill. You can hear it not acting right when he was stabbing the throttle in a few shots before the hill
Lots of HP from a 2 litre. I am surprised it has a cvt. I think shaft drive would be much better. Price is way crazy. $42k US is the about $50k CAD which is what i paid for my 20 Tundra.
The suspension alone from the Pro R is worth 5x what is found on the Tundra. Don't get me wrong, it's a sweet truck but, the Pro R is a different animal. Can't compare apples to oranges. I'm pretty sure I still can find 50K cad$ houses around here, the market is messed up.
It would be good to show someone going through the course with a full size equipped with chains to show what a difference a good set of chains will do.
Lol. Long time RZR owner here. You're going to want to be in 4 wheel drive all the time. We only use 2 wheel drive if the front differential goes or you want to do donuts. If you are going slower then 15 MPH its better for the belt to stay in low especially if you're crawling up a hill. If you don't, you're going to smoke that belt.
There is a company that makes SxS’s & ATV’s street legal and Utah allows them especially in Moab (once made street legal). I know there are some areas like Josh C said that’ll allow during certain times of the year.
The only SxS that I'd buy for slow speed technical off-roading is a Honda with a real transmission and geared (vs belted) drive. I off-road quite a bit (in probably the best kept secret vehicle - Roxor, turbo diesel manual) in slippery winter conditions (Canada) and get passed by Can-Am, Polaris etc belted POSs, only to have to tow them out when the driving gets slow in technical areas due to broken/burnt out belts and CVTs. My Polaris dealer acquaintance makes a fortune repairing them...
That's like somebody driving a manual transmission and burning through the clutch. Just because it happens doesn't mean it's the clutch's fault maybe it's the operator doesn't know how to use it properly.
16:50-17:14 Come on guys. That was hella cap! You spent way more than that for your Bronco that is way less capable! This just showcases what I keep writing all over the internet, and that is this: Stop buying these hella expensive road vehicles (aka Bronco's, Jeep Wranglers, F150 Raptors, etc.) to off-road in. A RZR that is cheaper, will off-road way better, in basically any off-road condition! All you spending $70k+ on your above mentioned vehicles, literally just for clout on a paved road, to not even come close to the capabilities of a RZR Turbo S, Turbo R, or Pro R, are idiots lol. All of that "marketing" on those vehicles, making you thin you're buying this crazy capable off-road machine...don't get me wrong, they are capable, but they are VERY expensive, and still not even close to as capable as the above mentioned RZR's (even the CanAm's and other UTV's). "But I can drive my Bronco, Raptor, Wrangler, etc. on the road, and have a/c while doing it" blah, blah, blah. Well guess what, when you crash that crap, have an engine issue, or even get a flat tire off-roading, how are you getting home? That's your only vehicle that you are also using as your toy in hard terrain. Long story short, if you are planning on spending money to off-road, just buy a UTV, and then use the extra money on a vehicle to tow it. If you are using one vehicle as your daily and off-roader, don't pick these crazy priced vehicles, and instead, buy something cheap that you can afford to not care about if it gets scratched or whatever. When you are driving down the road in your $100k+ Raptor, or $70k+ Bronco or Wrangler, trust me, NOBODY CARES! Don't sacrifice a massive monthly payment thinking people care, especially when you will get dusted on any trail by a $40k RZR.
Paddle tires..similar to snow paddles & twice as wide will work just fine...too much weight, zero traction, too little tire surface area. You need to bust ass, you just can't pussy-foot around if you want to get somewhere!

I’m glad to wasn’t the only one. Was driving that machine like he was scared of it
Just remember TFL, if you under 20mph on average keep it in low. Told by a Polaris tech to save belts.
I rent these once a year and knew this ... very rookie mistake
He definitely isn’t an experienced sxs driver
Are you talking about the v-belt or something else?
The transmission drive belt. It's a belt driven CVT transmission.
You should always run belt driven atvs/side by sides in low range under 25 mph, it saves the belt puts a lot less strain on it
I've run my x3 and xmr mainly in high for years and have never had belt issues, I vary rarely use low.
@@jesseobrien2641 I run an outlander 2017 XMR 1000R with 32"s almost always in low....
I’m a newbie so I appreciate the info.
Fun video guys! Thanks for braving the cold mud for us.

They should have been in low range.
Side by side, full Independent suspension.. is the best offroad vehicle
Take a look at Honda pioneer 500/520. Budget SxS for the average.
Great video guys..watching it from New Hampshire... but brings back old memories of living in Colorado.
My canam commander xt1000 has tracks which allow me to go over nearly any weather condition.i use it to plow snow.
i want to see the unimog do the course in the snow
That would be great. Even when it's full on soft mud, it may sink with the weight. Lets see
Always wanna use low range for this kind of driving
Should you air down alot for grip ?? It works in sand

Try any of the Can Am Maverick Max X3's like the XMR Turbo RR with mud tires and better power to weight ratio!!
As long as you don’t mind 3wheel drive. Haha jkjk
@@joshc606 you have a fully locked rear and selectable locker up front on the X3 XMR so I'm not sure what you are referring to.
I would have thought that by now, you'd understand momentum and wheel speed. A stock 800s could do better with the right driver.
4x4 in High gear and send it!
@@alb5tana you clearly understand
Why did smoke come from front when belt is behind rear seat?
Love the videos guys, thanks for all the work and edits that go in to them!
Nice. 2023 is gonna be awesome!
Watching you try and go up that in high range was cringe worthy. That poor belt is basically done now, flat spotted.
TRACTION is the name of the game!
Thought they had a stop drive on these things? Clutch plate exploding or something like that?
That's the 2021 Rzr Pro XP This is the Pro R model
A Volkswagen Toureg might be the vehicle that you are looking for to make it through bone stock!😊
I think there was something wrong with that RZR before you did the hill. You can hear it not acting right when he was stabbing the throttle in a few shots before the hill
He was burning the belt because he was in High range. Need to be in low range or low hear for tacking an obstacle like that.

It does have a drive shaft.
Most side by sides use a CVT. It's light and it works.
Maxx 6x6, Largo 6x6 & 8x8, and Land tamer 6x6 & 8x8 will go places, especially with tracks on them, will go places that side-by-sides won't go.
Those also won't be doing 70 mph in the dunes. And rock crawling will be worse compared to this. Different machines designed for different uses.
It would be good to show someone going through the course with a full size equipped with chains to show what a difference a good set of chains will do.
They think cables are chains though 🤣🤣
I don't know how the sledders handle suspension between temperature compensation with oil.
Sleds don’t need to run in all seasons. They are set up for one season. Cold winter.
@@pryme2013 it's a bigger T range than you think between spring and arctic
@@yorkchris10 we sled all over the upper Midwest and U.P. Lots of experience setting up sleds.
Gotta be in low range when your driving slow in those machines especially going slow uphills or you will cook the belt.
For 42 grand it had better go absolutely everywhere! Just unreal prices for SxS's now
Jeeze I didn’t know Colorado was 5397 miles above sea level. 😅 3:13 was the mistake lol
never getting up a hill with zero speed especially in the snow
How about Doing A Video on the Transit Trail
Is that the stock exhaust ? It sounds and idles so smooth. My pro r sounds like it has a cam and sounds more grunty

You guys should do a collab video with the Off Camber Industries guys. The Pro R is worth every dollar
Put some tracks on it and test those!
Put in low.....how do you not know that and your show is called "TFL OFFROAD"?
Are these things street legal? Could I drive it to the trail or do I gotta tow it?
Certain states they can be made street legal yes.
There is a company that makes SxS’s & ATV’s street legal and Utah allows them especially in Moab (once made street legal). I know there are some areas like Josh C said that’ll allow during certain times of the year.
In WV just get dot tires, turn signals, windshield with wiper, inspection sticker and pay the plate fee and insurance. Go anywhere but the interstate
not worth to make them street legal, imo. Is like taking fully build Jeep to the Mall
Here in SW Wi, ATV/UTV allowed on certain roads/route's. More an more past few years.
Get that sweet machine a good oil change very soon! Prob a $25k off rd toy!? 💯👍🏻👍🏻
Cooked that belt in 4H dude.
I know the machine parked on the bank above that mud hole was makin me nervous
"We've closed the course to the public, we're not having anyone come out and film videos on it right now." Hmm, didn't know that was a thing.
It was a thing until Andre used this side by side as a tow rig and scratched up the last 2D Bronco. lol
Would love a manual transmission on this.
1997 cc? Wow!
👏👏👏 THANK YOU FOR TAKING US THROUGH THE COURSE IN THE SNOW ... WAY COOL .... HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
Seems like Honda and others are way behind on the tech side.
Excellent video, please do more of these. I love SxS's and can't wait to own my very first. Thanks guys.
Have you ever checked out sxs blog on TH-cam, probably the best sxs channel on here.
Pretty yough to do much of anything hard once you burn the belt in High on a crawl spot. Use low!
CVT's suck for small steep hills!!!
The engine noise is beyond annoying like on most of these sidebysides.
Numero uno!!!!
I WANT ONE !!!!!
No way the slope is 34 degrees. There's snow on it.
Mmmmmm, BBQ cvt belt

Been to Moab several times with 3 different RZRs.... NEVER had a belt issue because I know how to drive a belt-driven machine. Get over yourself.
Seems a fragile system if the belts smoke that easy. For 42K I'd want something better than that.
Operator error.
It needed a better driver.
I Can't believe that belt burnt so easy. Poor design with a cvt.
Driver error. Belt isn't the issue right now.
Operator error... he should've been in low range and actually given it some revs/ wheel speed to climb the hill.
That's like somebody driving a manual transmission and burning through the clutch. Just because it happens doesn't mean it's the clutch's fault maybe it's the operator doesn't know how to use it properly.
That was painful to watch. Feel bad for the machine.
That smoke from the belt (regardless if should have been in low) just reaffirms that Honda’s DCT is superior.
I will stick with the yamaha belt reliability
My Pro XP will climb vertically (in low range) and never smoke the belt. Can't believe I just watched that guy do that to a Pro R
Those things are overpriced pieces of crap 💩. It’s gonna be another $40k in repairs and maintenance..
When are you going to start making videos so we can see how it’s done??
A Kawasaki Mule is what I would like to buy.
Africa Twin would probably make it through there bone stock, so would most motocross motorcycles... bone stock.
3” of snow doesn’t impress me
Bronco Raptor or Wrangler 392 Rubicon would make the whole course, aired down

Always love annoying people by taking side by sides on snowmobile trails at night in the Maine woods
You’re annoying them because you’re slowing them down. Any decent sled is far faster in its intended environment than a sxs
