    you mentioned something very important about adding water to the wood pellet at the beginning to make the better texture for cats to transfer from clay litter to wood pellets. I didn't do it, but after one of my brave cat pee on the wood pellets for the first time, I realized it made it much easier for the other cats to like the texture. the transition process can be hard for some cats, but the texture of the wood pellets makes a big different. all three of my cats now happy with wood pellets, and I feel great about having the chance to recycle their waste to my garden! thanks!

    Thank you for sharing the result! I am doing gardening at home, have one cat and use wood-fiber-based cat litter. I regret how much good fertilizer I have flushed down the toilet! No anymore~ They are now all going to compost.

    I am from the tropics so no pine but I am surrounded by rice farmers. rice husk and wheat husk are also great kitty litter

    I started taking the used mulch my outside cats use and adding it to my garden in the fall and winter. Hope to have a better garden next spring!

    Great info. I also "prime" the fresh wood pellets with a cup of water. The cats prefer the sawdust texture and it does a great job of coating the solids and masking the associated odor. I find it works best to remove the poop every day but leave the pellet sawdust in place for 5 days before replacing. It continues to do an amazing job of absorbing urine odor for quite a few days.

    I consciously use clay litter. My garden is since the renovation rather shallow, they have raised the garden and now I have like about 80 centimeters of soil, and below that a layer of cloth and clay pallets, and it is drained. To make this shallow layer of soil hold more water I use a "soil drill" and make holes to just above the cloth and pour in the diatmaceous clay with the catpoo and pee. I heard one kilogram of this clay can hold on ten liters of water and it is being used to improve sandy soils.

    We wanted to keep our recently acquired kittens, the environment, dogs and ourselves safe. I already knew we were going to use a plant base pellet as we had used the pine in the past then reviewing the various toxins produced by molds and such we stuck with the pine. I did a bit of research in past years on using wood stove pellets (questionable adhesives) to save on cost never thinking of any other alternatives so a big THANK YOU! We'll be checking out the horse bedding for sure, now I need to figure out a way to keep the dogs from dining on the compost but still have all access to keep the varmints out.

    it in my woods now and see if i can add to garden in Spring.

    I use horse bedding too as cat litter. I switched cuz its the most neutral smell ever! The cats don't mind peeing in but I do notice they don't cover the poops with the pellets n that's what smells till it gets covered but thats it!

    Wow! Thank you for showing the comparison! Whoo hoo - now I know how to fill my raised beds. I have 3 cats who pee and poop a lot. I might actually enjoy “harvesting” the dirty litter now :)

    Man I just happened to look at your channel your video and I think it's pretty neat we got to start thinking outside the box if we're going to take care of herself in any kind of scenario as we all know.. but you could do this anywhere in the country of what you're doing...

      Transition VERY slow. Replacing 2 to 3 cups with their regular litter. Cars are picky and if you change too quick, they'll stop using the litter box. Good luck!

    My used sawdust sprouted mushrooms. I scooped the poop out before using the sawdust for compost/mulch around a blackberry plant with marigold companion plants. About a month later it started sprouting mushrooms. I think they're Shaggy Mane which are gourmet edible but I need to know if them growing from cat piss sawdust will be a problem.

    I have sandy soil so I was thinking about amending it with clay cat litter.
    What I am thinking about is sifting the poop out of the cat litter in my soil sifter and burning the poop in my burn barrel.
    The rest of the litter I plan to mix into my compost bin and eventually add it into my garden beds.
    This should be safe enough. There are no child bearing women around my house.

    Bokashi composting renders pet wastes non toxic through fermentation and can be done DIY. There are somewhat expensive bucket systems one can buy. It can be done with any biodegradable, not clay litter.

    I think I could get that kind of stuff at Tractor Supply the equine pellet if I can get that and then I'm going to start doing what you're doing but we have a cat that's inside and it's better than having him go outside and get fleas we have chickens and everything here we have the homestead here too in Florida but I have all kinds of trees out here but this would actually bring my ground backed up usable land to use to grow fruit trees better but they're doing good now the peachtrees are doing really good cuz I use a lot of chicken manure but not so much just every so often I'll put us some on every couple weeks or so I grow amaranth The Hopi Red version I got some sorghum we're onto but I like that winter wheat you were talking about

    When infected cat poop is flushed down toilets toxoplasmosis can get into waterways and can be deadly to otters. Your method seems quite safe.

    I tried it. I have 9 cats. And no it doesn't work good. Because the pine pellet . Become very wet . It turned out to be more work than the regular litter. But I am sure it might work in the garden either way.

    • @leanneliu5012
      @leanneliu5012 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      too wet because there is a lot of cat urine? I understand the wood pellet will expand a lot when they are wet, maybe that is what you mean more work. 9 cats, great fun!!!

    I put my cat litter in the fire pit for bio char and ash because its toxic. the Toxoplasma gondii parasite isnt going to effect the plants but will poison the life out of humans or cause permanant damage and ive heard that composting doesnt kill it, im sorry but this has the possibility of being dangeous. Since you need ash for you garden anyway take this the extra step and put it in your fire pit under your wood. Collect it up over time, it doesnt stink cause its clumped with litter and mixing with old carbon and ash of the pit. Every now and then "cook" the pit and use the ash and remove the char for you bio pit before starting again with more cat poo as the car poo renders it unuseable until you "cook" it again. Web md has extensive warning about and studies that prove that toxoplasmosis can affect even the healthiest of persons. Dont gamble with it.

    • @gavinmatthews5618
      @gavinmatthews5618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You do know Toxoplasma gondii is naturally found in soils, it only becomes problem in high numbers in host, like he said if you have cat's you likely already have it.

    I have a suggestion though. It would be good to take a picture of the brand of whatever you’re trying to replace the cat litter: take a very clear video of the whole bag and then people can take a screenshot.
    Also I think you’re good a hosting a video.

    Growing strictly vegetables and having feral cats in my neighborhood that are not healthy!! that's a whole different story. And I feel your video is educating people in the wrong direction!!!
    I can understand where you're coming from with the pine and your own indoor cat but I'm looking for something that's gonna tell me that cat feces is not recommended especially from feral cats!!!
    And I don't think you mentioned the 2 1/2 times more nitrogen than any other creature
