Anyone with a nickname they can back up is scary. Promotions and media will say anything to give someone a nickname but when it sticks and they can back it up, it’s scary. “Ax murderer”, “hands of stone” etc.
@Porrada Everyday I'm talking about the general public. When people hear "boxing", they think of skilled and fierce hard hitters like Tyson, Foreman and Ali. When people hear "MMA", people think of equally popular killers like McGregor, Rousey, GSP, and Khabib. But when people hear "kickboxing", they mostly think of popular cardio kickboxing and boxercise-related activities; there are no kickboxing stars nor mainstream promotions for people to associate kickboxing competition with. Hopefully, this will change.
You are 100 percent correct. People in the US think it's a cardio/dance class lmao. I started just inviting people to come with me to my "Standup MMA class. It's everything but grappling bro." Haha
@@TheModernMartialArtist Yeah lol. It's kinda unfortunate. It doesn't help also that kickboxing is kinda looked down upon by guys because it's become popular among women. But I would like to expand on my hope that this will change. There are two possibilities that could arise in order for kickboxing to become popular: 1. A mainstream athlete or celebrity (preferably a UFC fighter or boxer) enters kickboxing competition 2. A kickboxer markets themselves as brash and confident, and backs their words up with consistent phenomenal performances against their competition's elite. Events like this, at least in theory, would cause a stir within the kickboxing community, creating a domino effect where it ends up reaching martial arts media, then mainstream media, and, last but not least, the public.
