My father loves this fighter. I’m gonna recap some things he talked about, because I feel they add to this already excellent analysis. First he talked about a match against a young inexperienced mexican boxer. Talented and promising, but outmatched. In that fight it was like Chavez didn’t go all out. He got his points, he won easily, but he didn’t make his opponent look helpless or pathetic, there was a sense of ... mildness? about him. Second fight my dad talked about was much more serious. And he described the insane pressure that Chavez could deliver. But the way my father told it, it didn’t come pouring non-stop. Instead Chavez would switch it on and off. Fighting conservatively, collecting points, not quite hanging back but not fighting all-out for a few seconds ... or half a round. And then, sometimes when his opponent tried to go on the offensive and sometimes with no discernible trigger, he would deliver these periods of furious pressure. For long or short periods of time. At the end of the fight his opponent was almost completely demoralized. Just shelling up and and trying to survive the next assault, or waiting for it to start, but psychologically unable to even try to do something constructive of his own. Third thing that impressed my father was the post fight interview. Chavez was answering questions about the fight, or the future or youth boxing or something. And he was completely calm and rational. Drying himself with a towel and talking about stuff, like he had just stepped off a treadmill. That is insane: fighters who come out of the ring are juiced on adrenaline. No matter how smart they are, you can still see it in their eyes, hear it in their voice, they were fighting moments ago and words are harder than usual. But Chavez- nothing.

That bit about his compact defence losing him points was spot on. Recently I taught a little about compact defence to a friend's son (to correct his overextended parry), but warned him to avoid it when fighting for points. Subtle defences don't use to fare all that well in sports. vov
The most exciting fight (maybe even the most exciting sporting event) I've ever seen in my life was the great fight between Meldrick Taylor and Julio Cesar Chavez. If there is any way you could analyze that fight on this channel, I would be most grateful. I fondly recall sitting in our kitchen with my father and his friends and standing up and cheering at the ending. What a moment!
Great videos as always man. I came back to JCC Sr's because a guy at my gym forces me to become a pressure fighter. Not exactly that, but there are times I will have to feel comfortable on the inside and I like how this right here is a great example of a variety of ways to feel comfortable close to your opponent.
The casuals will say “fought a lot of nobodies “ not realizing that in Mexico the bar is set so high that before you get your first fight in Las Vegas you have to go through at least 20 pros. Not like here where with 10 and 0 your a belt contender and a future promise.
You are correct bro but he indeed fought a lot of nobodies, saying that doesn’t make someone a casual, is the truth, Chavez fought great competition but the vast majority of their fights were against nobodies.
Best boxer in history in my book. To go 89-0 is monstrous, even though he started losing towards the end of his career, it doesn’t take away from that win streak.

Many of us who got to watch these fights knew it was special but only time and many yrs of training has shown me truly the depth of his skills and greatness. Con mucho respeto🙏🏽👊🏽
I have never clicked on a video faster. Thank you so much for making this
You can see how much influence he had on fighters like Pacman, Roy jones, Loma, Mikey Garcia etc...
Blasphemy, Roy never fought like Chavez. Lima doesn’t fight like him ether.
Loma is overrated.
And me but nobody knows that.
@@loosie.goosie your pussy is overrated
Never noticed he used his head to open up guards and push opponent's heads up...genius!
Chavez holds the records for most title bouts 37, most title defenses 27, tied with Joe Louis for most Kos in title defenses 23, he beat 31 world champions, longest undefeated streak 89 fights 14 years , and the only fighter crowned P4P by ring magazine 3 consecutive years 90-93. Most wins in the last 100 years 107, most Kos in the last 100 years 86, most in attendance 133k in estadio Azteca vs Haugen. Nobody comes close to having so many records , Mayweather brags about 50-0, Pacquiao about 8 divisions but look at how much more accomplished Chavez is than both of them combined. He is the best to lace them up.
And then, a bunch of young canelo groupies trying to compare that joke to Julio Cesar Chavez Gonzales!
Chavez moved up in weight class to fight real weight class fighters. No fixed weights, no abusive clauses, no bullshit!
And no cheerleaders!
Me oyen Pirulas!..😆

Watched the first 8+ minutes of this thinking "Chavez looked like he studied Henry Armstrong," and then the narrator drops his name. 👍
Saddler,Benton,Marciano, but then it wouldn’t be Mexican style. It would be American style.
JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ MEANS EL CESAR DEL BOXEO THE KING 🤴 THE NUMBER ONE ☝️ ✊✊💯✊🥊🇲🇽✊💯
Awesome video!! It's crazy & sad how this great boxer/Man never gets any CREDIT for making history in the WORLD of Boxing!Seems like he's underrated for a dumb reason; Not being from USA! But, still real boxing fans around the WORLD: appreciate & love Julio Cesar Chavez Sr!! Really shows how much heart, time, & effort you put in your break down videos! Thank you for sharing your videos 👍👊😎♥️💯💥!
The best boxer of all times. As simple as that.
Ben, this is truly your calling in life. Nobody and I mean nobody does it better 🥊
The greatest boxer of all time
nope
Lol ok
Stop the bs
A top 5 for sure
Nah.
This guy would barely train later in his career. Still dominated.
He also started partying too much and he would still beat everyone. He would have been over 100-0 if he would have been on top of his game
The best breakdown of JCC. Thank you!!
Really reminds me of Armstrong!
Who is amstrong?
Henry Armstrong
Homicide hank
Que paso Ruso? Sigues en Mexico?

I just stumbled on your page a few days ago and I can't get enough. I already loved your content before but Julio Cesar Chavez was my dad's and also my favorite growing up, thank you for the holiday present. The production of your videos is top notch, I can't wait for more! My dad and I are fans for sure!
I was one of the guys who asked you for this video.
Thanks man
Chavez was like a Mexican Mike Tyson with his head movement
Haha yea.
Both had the same promoter don king and got royally screwed. Cesar Chavez said he didn't start makeing millions until he left don king and by then he was way past his prime and titles gained.
No, Tyson was like a gringo Chávez with his head movement
Chaves was better than Mike tyson it's actually Mike tyson was the american chavez
Is the other way around
VIVA MEXICO!!! SR. JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ💯.UNA LEYENDA VIVIENTE!!!
"Punish the body and the head will fall on it's own"
One of the goats
If I remember well, the exact quote is "kill the body and the mind will die". What i am sure is that it was said by trainer Eddie Futch.
The best fighter Who Had Given México Did'nt Think Someone Reach His Level 👊
I’ve been waiting for a video about jcs
Best inside fighter of all time.
Hey thanks for this comprehensive review, ive been studying head movement and Chavez is a legend in that department.
You should break down The Thunder meets Lightning fight between Chavez vs Taylor and The Toyko Showdown between Tyson vs Douglas both Legendary fights
Chavez senior to me is wayyy better than Mayweather
Man he is the best 89-0
Cartel Trapz haha no
@Alejandro Rivero Jr. Hahaha bro, Gayweather has at least 2 losses on his record! One to Chavez Sr's old sparring partner Jose Luis Castillo where he was robbed!
@@Johnny_Chingas13 you don't know how to score a fight 😂😂
@@OGFrylock haha if you're a newbie if you think Mayweather won the 1st Castillo fight! The 2nd he beat Castillo clearly but the 1st homeboy lost, the announcers were blind too according to you.
Chavez was a ruthless technician. What gets me about chavez is his punching technique, all his punches look neat nothing sloppy his Style is very esthetically pleasing to the eye. I just cant comprehend how people cant just give him props. Since 1950 to present times the two best boxers the two best fighter are chavez an floyd mayweather no one comes close to these two
Dudes damn near deified in mexico i think hes very well rated lol
Please. How can you even mention Mayweather, the runner, when speaking about the best fighter of all time, JulioCesar Chavez, a pressure fighter who never ran on the ring.
That's an insult comparing Julio to Mayweather
Thank you for this one I was hoping for your breakdown of Chavez for a long time. He's the reason I love Boxing I grew up watching his fights.
Now I hope you do a video on Erik morales
I grew up in the 80's and believed Chavez would never get beaten!
Entre varias virtudes, Julio tenía un increíble e impresionante sentido de la distancia.
¡Salud Campeón!
Chavez is one of boxing geniuses.
Truly a student and master of the art.
Much respect!
Just got here afther seeing the tweet news. Must feel amazing when the actual boxers apreciate your work about them.
JCC is a true master when it comes to boxing, his technique was impressive and his endurance was rarely matched. Thanks for the videos
Brilliant video 👍🏼chavez is the reason I got into boxing as kid and have been a fan of the game for almost 30 years
He’s the definition of what real boxing is
That bit about his compact defence losing him points was spot on. Recently I taught a little about compact defence to a friend's son (to correct his overextended parry), but warned him to avoid it when fighting for points. Subtle defences don't use to fare all that well in sports. vov
Nice breakdown brother 💪🏻💪🏻🥊🥊
Hell yes! I remember asking for this on one of your last uploads! Thanks for listening!
I remember his fight with Mayweather, he just ran through Mayweather's philly shell defense with ease. Absolute LEGEND 🛐
Excellent video and technique breakdown. Chavez lost only when he was way past his prime.
Idc what anybody says, this man isn’t one of the best Mexican boxers ever, he’s one of the best boxers to ever live.
This will one day be a so underrated coment...
Legend
His fights never disappointed. He’s gave what the crowd wanted.
I'm loving this! Just wondering if your gonna do more breakdowns? Your Duran/Sugar breakdown is still the best fight narration I've ever heard.
Excellent analysis, thank you! I grew up watching this guy but I had no idea his style was so complex. Loving your channel, man. Keep it up. Cheers
When asked about Chavez's strong attributes, Roger Mayweather said "the chin".
Great videos as always man. I came back to JCC Sr's because a guy at my gym forces me to become a pressure fighter. Not exactly that, but there are times I will have to feel comfortable on the inside and I like how this right here is a great example of a variety of ways to feel comfortable close to your opponent.
by far the best martial arts channel on YT
4min to this vid I said. Hey this guy must have been Lomachenko's inspiration and next thing you know my hunch was right. Lol
Did he say Chavez was his inspiration?
@@soyplebe7 This wasn't Lomas inspiration but I can tell you who was.
