    When Dunlop and PGS set out to collaborate on the Carbon Copy Bright, the idea was to take the core that's found on thousands of pedalboards worldwide, and adapt it to players in search of a little more clarity. Because several players now chain multiple delays together, the MXR Carbon Copy Bright was designed as the yang to the original's yin. These two analog delays were designed to work with one another in addition to being killer units on their own. Each pedal shines in their own way, the original M169 with its darker analog wash and the new Bright with its vocal-like repeats that demand to cut through the mix. Utilizing a bright and dark delay in tandem boosts the stylistic possibilities of any pedalboard, especially when used together at different delay settings. Of course, the Carbon Copy Bright continues to be a true bucket brigade delay with the same extended range of 600ms, lush on board modulation and true bypass switching all in a compact enclosure made in the USA.

    The orginal CC sounds better to me at pretty much every setting. The bright's repeats seem a bit too high pitched and chirpy for my tastes.

    I've had the original cc for years now and use it it as an always on reverb/depth/ tone fattener. It's become a huge part of my sound and love it for Floyd stuff with the delay adjusted. Great pedal!!

    I can imagine the bright being a better option for bass players who use delay and lose clarity with the muddy trails of other standard analog delays, but don't want to resort to digital delays :D definitely gonna save up for the bright version x)

    • @rkharper
      @rkharper 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Julio A. Robles exactly! I have a CC on my bassboard, and while it sounds glorious during rehearsal (we have a killer sounding PA), it gets mushy on stage, definitely looking on the CCB !

    I just picked one of these up after using the original for 4 years. I run both now, the bright for my cleans, and the original for overdrive. The bright really brings out and preserves my cleans, which is awesome. It's subtle, but enough that it makes a difference. I would try it out before dogging it.

  • @RandyJohnsonRikthove
    @RandyJohnsonRikthove 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I own the original one of these things. One thing I really like about it is that the delayed signal sonically "gets out of the way" of the original signal because it loses top end with each repeat and sinks behind the original signal. This bright version looks cool and may sound cool in some situations I just think sonically, live, it could clutter up your signal unless you had the mix of the delay set pretty low. It's too close to the original signal in my opinion. I agree on the thought of one carbon copy but with a switch or dial to select the "color" of the repeats.

    • @TimothyPage06
      @TimothyPage06 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      RandyJohnsonRikthove I think it depends on what you are playing. Like if you listen to the other demos of it, in a song where you really want the delay in the foreground for dotted eighths (eg do you play in a worship band? Are you U2?') then the new bright model is going to sound great. At the same time, the darkness is part of the reason why the CC has stayed on my board for years, often not as the ONLY delay. I just like the darkness and the reverby-ness of it.

  • @jstephen1
    @jstephen1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The original sounds better for just adding to your tone, the delay isn't as apparent and it mixes really well for that wide sound and for leads, whereas the bright does sound much better if you want distinct delay.

  • @HBSuccess
    @HBSuccess 9 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Youngsters reading - keep in mind that something that sounds good on a recording might not sound like anything in a live situation. I love Andy's demos -but they can't predict what this gear will sound like with 500 people in a noisy club. I got rid of my original MXR CC way back in the day, because it sounded perfect in the store - but live the repeats totally disappeared into a sea of mush. The 'bright' version might be just what the Dr. ordered in that setting.

    I think the original sounds better and doesn't get in the way of your playing. Of course thats the purpose of the bright - having it be so present. At any rate I think Dunlop should make one CC pedal with a bright switch and add the mod controls to the top plate instead of burying them inside. That would be an awesome CC pedal.

      yeah they do in this video and they probably will in most videos XD but for gear the real way to find out is to check it out yourself
      because when you ask "is this any good"
      you'll be lucky if one gear related video or magazine gives you a honest answer to it

    • @blackbeltjones2903
      @blackbeltjones2903 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just slightly brighter in its repeats. Not so fundamentally different that it becomes "absolute shit". The added presence is great imo. There are many analog delay pedals that are naturally brighter than the CC. That doesn't make them sound digital, since it's not brightness alone that makes digital delays sound the way they do.

Do you complain about a restaurant offering curly fries being a waste of money?

    • @jacobl6572
      @jacobl6572 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I now have both, and playing live, you can hear the difference. Together you can get a lot of nice combinations. I almost bought a Strymond delay but really like the warmth of analog along with a tube amp. These digital TH-cam samples loose some warmth and clarity to begin with, so you need to hear things live for a real evaluation.
