I'm a Maintenance Supervisor for Holiday Inn Express and Suites here in Evanston Wyoming - This is a very quick and efficient repair technic, especially when you can't afford to keep a room out of service for too long (Loss of $$$) Very kewl - Thanks for sharing
Another way is to put some drywall mesh tape over the hole instead of screwing on a new piece of drywall. Cover the hole with mesh tape and then apply a coat of drywall mud. Let the mud dry overnight and then lightly sand the mud , then apply another coat of mud . After the second coat dries you should be able to sand the mud smooth to the walls surface.
I like his method of cutting the replacement piece of drywall first, and measuring the cut hole to that. Other videos have you use a carpenter's square to measure the cut hole and the replacement. His idea is quicker, easier to get accurate, and how many of us have a carpenter's square? Great tip 👍🏾

watch tutorials on cutting drywall and sinking drywall screws and you should really screw the drywall on at least two far sides of it not just in the middle. this guy is totally unspecific on these points
This method does work. The only thing I would change would be to apply joint tape to the cracks between the old dry wall and new drywall square. It may allow you to apply one layer of mud instead of having to go over a second time just to fill the cracks. Simply a time saver.
Great job. I have to do almost exactly what you did on a drywall due to an outside hose bib faucet leak. Even has a stud on the right. I have everything except the long paint stir stick. You will make me look like a professional wall dude to my sister in law!

Mate i plaster for a living and you have just shown people exactly what not to do. I suggest you pay some one that knows what they are doing without taping the gaps cracks will just keep appearing. If you do want to attempt it your self and the hole is not to big get one of those hoe repair kits with the aluminium patches in it they work well.

Aluminum adhesive patch. Just one would cover a hole that size. No cutting or screwing wood pieces is needed. Cover the patch with compound and smooth out.

Why would you use mesh tape over those new seams with that repair ? I have never tried it like this - I am wondering if you can get away with repairing it like this - why not just plaster over sheet rock seems without taping them? It seems to me that you would need tape over those seams. Please let me know what you think
I fix holes without tape no problem. The hole is in the same panel not like two sheets of adjacent drywall with the seem that shifts. I use 1x2 strips in the back. I under size the drywall plug patch somewhat then fill the surrounding gap with "fix it all" compound. Over that a smooth coat of drywall compound sand then spray texture. For small holes like an outlet I back the holes with the strip and trowel in "fix it all" for a perfect patch. I've done this for decades all over my house with no cracks ever revealed at the patches. I don't believe tape will help because old work has paint and texture so what will the tape adhere to? Also tape tends to show through the compound unless you build up then the patch shows. Nobody can find any of the patches in my house. The walls look perfect. Just my experience. This is an unusual video as all the others I've seen on TH-cam show tape being applied.

i dont like joint compound. its too wet and it can shrink when it dries. quick dry spackle is better, imho
