I am a 4RS owner and I don't find it too loud at all but just GORGEOUS! I just completed a 1,300 km rallye over 3.5 days on twisty mountain roads with it and it was just 🥰!
Spot on - the 981 and 982 718 NA GTS whether Cayman or Boxster are fantastic. Also owned plenty of 911s inc RS. Not a great fan of the 992 GT3 or GT3 RS. The 991.2 GT3 touring and 991.2 GT3 RS are better looking and more engaging. My personal picks are the 981 GTS, 718 GTS 4.0L, 718 RS Spyder or 4RS, 991.2 GT3 touring and 991.2 GT3 RS. The 992 GT3 is a more anodyne version of the 991.2 GT3 RS and the 992 GT3 RS is over blown although a technical tour de force.
And for me that's the small fast roadster to own, great engine with electric roof. If the RS had the electric roof for me it would be perfect just can't understand how adding a few KGs to give it an electric roof mechanism would have in any way compromised the cars abilities
Great video! For the range, just tick the 90L tank option and sorted out! Convertible, GT3 Cup engine, pdk and drivetrain from 991.2 gt3rs and lighter than any 991/992 gt3(rs)! To me it is the best Porsche for road trips and occasional track day!
Nice review Joe. No problem hearing you during the video at all. Shame that you had to deal with the rain but as you say “that’s GB”. I have always thought that the Spyders were beautiful cars, but I would never own one because of the roof. I would sacrifice power, looks to a degree, and prestige just to have the standard electric roof. And, that’s what I have.
My wife and I regularly exceed 125 mph and it rains like Britain here, so we opted for the coupe. Additional safety as well. We have the 718 Spyder, so it's not a hard choice.
Great review. The Spyder RS roof seems best left in the garage. That said, my idea of a nice drive is running my 2010 S in Rocky Mountain National Park to summit at 12,000ft in Nov while experiencing light precipitation. Given full heat with vents positioned properly, parka, hat and gloves it's far warmer than a motorcycle.
I have once driven a 2010 Cayman S and love it since that drive. Amazing balance, amazing engine noise, amazing transmission noise, just loved it. I would probably "need" either a Boxster GTS 4.0 with the upgraded shorter 2nd gear retrofit kit (manual, that is) or if getting the transmission redone is far too complicated then just go for the PDK and get roughly okay 2nd and 3rd ratio. The induction noise festival and extra oumpfh of the RS must be amazing, but probably I would be blow away by the "pedestrian" GTS 4.0 already :-)
Don’t agree with the loud noise or rough ride of the 4RS. Idk why every journalist says that… they blow it wayyyy out of proportion. Lovely car the SRS is. Thanks for the vid. Did you redline it?

I love that in the "sunny segment" of the video you predicted that it was probably going to be the only sunny bit you'd get. It made me laugh! 🤣🤣 Great review, as always. Not a fan of convertibles, but there is something about two-seaters that make them work. Love it!
Tnx for the video as always buddy! First thing I came to think of was the roof and UK weather 😂 Not a car for the UK or nordic countries ... I think the Boxster GTS 4.0 is the sweetspot. Different intake and exhaust on that and I think we have a winner 😎 Not driven the Spyder RS though....
But if its your own money and not a rented one or borrowed one for a few days, then you would go for the electric roof Boxster GTS, like I did. Love it.
I just wish it wasn't a spider top but a normal sane top on there. The plastic fabric known as Race Tex looks horrible wet or even sweaty and absorbs sweat odors. A horrible fabric that also makes static charge in the winter and attracts dust, makes me shock when I get out of the car.
I love the top, and the more race-tex the better imo. I don't know if you sweat excessively or just stink like garbage, but I've never had any issues with any of the things you mentioned when it comes to race-tex. One of the big reasons I got Weissach was the race-tex dash.
When I hear you say the negatives, I'm thinking you're missing the point. It's just a fun car that takes everything you ever wanted in a sports car and finally put it all together in an amalgamation of parts that make this vehicle a blast from the past!! I still have 800 miles and slowly, I'll break this car in. Wow. So much fun. if you're lucky to be driving one, you'll know what I men.

Fabulous car but that roof situation is a fatal flaw for me. I have a 50 year old Triumph Stag with the original soft top which takes half the time, and faff, of that Spyder.
As an owner of both the 4RS and the 718 Spyder RS, I can say I really like the 718. That said, I wish they would have made the top electric! I know it's more weight...but it makes the usability so much higher. Overall, a great car. Glad you enjoyed it as well! Last of its kind for sure.
You’d lose the spyder humps and likely need some targa / mc20 motorized contraption. Weight had nothing to do with the inclusion of this top. It’s the easier to explain excuse. The only reason this car got green lit at all is that it has almost no development cost (over the 4RS).
@@hbullock IDK that I agree with the "weight had nothing to do with the inclusion of this top" comment. They put a sticker on RS models b/c it's weight savings over the actual metal crest. Using your rationale here, they could have just taken the top from the 718 Boxster. There's a lot of changes here between the 4RS and the Spyder RS, so not sure I agree with your explanation.

A great balanced review Joe!
Enjoying that roof down experience no matter sun or rain - good on you! 😂
Love the matching Spyder RS Nike clown shoes 👌🔥
Awesome. But the fact that it costs way more than 991.2 gt3 is insane.
Why? Same engine, more fun to drive, a spyder, smaller and a rs
Super more fan than my 991.2 GT3 or 992 GT3
I'd have a used 911 Turbo S over this but I see the potential for this car if you already have a practical GT.
How so? The oldest worst parts on the car are from the 991.2 GT3 lmao. It's a more special car. Although 991.2 GT3 is great as well.
It’s mildly insane to compare the price of a brand new car to that of a used car that’s at least 5 years old.
