    Today I’m showing you one of my new favorite tools for working on dirt bikes. It’s the Motool Slacker Digital Sag scale. With this tool, I can set the static sag and the race sag on my dirt bike without having to drag my wife (and or) kids out to the shop to help me. It may sound like a small thing, but it’s huge to me. I love having the digital readout so that I have no doubt of where my sag is.
    The tool comes in at $150 USD and while that is certainly expensive, for me, this tool is worth the money. As long as I take care of it, I’m sure it will last me for at least a decade of setting up dirt bikes. With as many bikes as I’m testing and riding each year, this thing is a fantastic tool to have in my shop.
    From the website:
    Fast, Simple, Precise
    The new and improved Slacker is even easier to use than the original! This patented system allows anyone to quickly and easily setup their bike’s suspension. Slacker takes less than 30 seconds to place on the bike and take a precise measurement. The tool was developed over the course of two years with input from industry leading suspension companies like Factory Connection, Pro Circuit and MB1 Suspension to assure the accuracy, consistency and reliability of the tool. This newest release features new hardware, new software and a fresh new look produced at a new state of the art production facility!
    It’s Not Rocket Science
    Adjusting suspension sag is the simplest, most overlooked change that you can make to dramatically improve the handling and safety of your bike. You will be amazed at how easy it is to dial in your bike yourself! Checking your sag regularly and adjusting it for different riding conditions is key to getting the most out of your bikes suspension. For faster conditions you can run more sag to make the bike more stable at speed and for tighter conditions you can run less sag so the bike steers better. It is super easy to adjust and you will kick yourself for not doing it as a regular part of your bike maintenance sooner.
    A Smarter Slacker
    The new Slacker with Auto Zero allows you to place the tool in a learning mode so it can actually learn where the zero point is when a bike is lifted. This is ideal for street bikes as well as dirt bikes when you don't have a stand or are doing multiple bike setups. All you do is hold the backlight button for 3 seconds to place it in Auto Zero mode, then lift the bike to unload the suspension and it automatically marks the zero point so you are ready to take measurements.

    @dirtbikechannel actually if you talk to the guys at Motool they suggest on the 17 and 16 KTMs you use the SAG marker on the rear fender instead of the arc method. this is referenced on their blog on their webpage and Via a phone conversation with myself.

    have one of these myself with x-trig adjusters on my shocks, Motool product is great, I'm done and fully adjusted in less than 3min with an impact driver or ratchet/socket.....poke a hole in the plastic at the mark point and put the hook in it, and like others said, use the KTM sag mark. should be setting Race/Rider sag first, then check static...if your static is off more than "spec" either direction after setting Race/Ride, you'll need to change the spring to accommodate your weight.

    I have this tool and completely agree with everything said in the video.setting sag is vital for how the bike handles and overall geometry/balance.it can also be used on the forks.since I can do it myself I'm always playing with settings wich allows me to really know my bike(s).great video!

    I just got this tool and love being able to set the sag by myself. But you should add one last step. Be very gentle taking your bike off the stand and putting it back on, because the tool can move on the axle, (I will make a pin for mine on my lathe). After you check/set the sag, gently put the bike on the stand to see if it is still reading zero. The first time I used it, it moved 2mm. But if your real careful, it won't move. The unit is also wireless now for the remote, or you can use your cell phone and not have to get the remote.

    I think it a great idea for the same reason you stated Kyle. Plus the frustration of having someone else reading the measuring tape :( I just bought one because I know how important proper sag is. But at the $150 mark it's not for everyone.

    I didn't know the sag was that important? It would be kinda nice to see a video about say and why it's so important 👍

      Adam Dilley search sag by stillwell performance, search SAG by Rocky Mountain ATV/MC and you will find some good information. There are a few more. Would send links but hard on phone. Once you find those videos on TH-cam you will see over to the right other similar videos that you can learn more. Pretty interesting.

    so is it the rider sag - the static sag to get the actual sag of the bike to 30mm? Having a hard time understanding the whole "sag" thing.

    Thank you for the video !! Why do you need the static sag for ?? Just to know the difference between static and the sag with the pilot ?? Or why is it useful for ??

  • @dr187mx
    @dr187mx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I ride both mx and off-road and can say with confidence that sag doesn't make 1/10 of the difference off-road as it does for mx riding. It's not worth the money even if it is for an mx bike.

    I bought it, nice product. Question is I have a 08 KTM 690e and have lowered the bike approx 1 5/8" and 3/4 down on the fork tubes. Would I subtract the 1 5/8ths to figure what it should be. I way 230 in gear and us it foe dual sport and have a fair amount of stuff. Bought it used in stock set up, I think, so some variables. Any advice, like the channel.

    • @bobthomas2812
      @bobthomas2812 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a 82 mm static and 66 loaded seated? 1 5/8 = 41.2 mm and bike stock had 11.2" travel. My problem is 28" inseam at 5'9". Standing I raised my rentals an 1.5"! I know strange lol. I am sure I might need a spring but not sure what it should be.

    I was adjusting my sag just yesterday and I got a little confused... My static sag was at 50mm and rider sag at 100mm, static to soft, rider a bit to hard. if I try change one of them it makes the other on really off! How do I get it right?

    • @SlackerUSA
      @SlackerUSA 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Julien,
      You need s softer spring. The big static number means there is not much preload on the spring so it is not holding the bike up after you set the race sag. I like it between 35-40mm static and around 105-110 for moto and off-road. Be sure to compensate on the fork with a lighter spring as well. Always set your race sag before you look at the static;-)

    cool tool but I'm with the majority of I'm going to spend $150 it would be on tires. Being a solid novice, new tires will make a bigger difference in my ride over adjusting 10mm of sag up or down. As long as we all ride were doing good.

    Why is race sag important?

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To get the bike frame angle where it should be for the best handling. Not enough race sag, and the head angle is steeper, and the front end could start shaking badly when braking for corners, (for example). To much race sag, and the head angle is more slack, and the front end may want to push instead of turn.

    150 bucks for bling? i've set my sag only once when i've bought the bike. never heard somebody saying...damn my riding improved so much after resetting my sag... i better invest in tires and gasoline for much more riding time to improve my riding skills. to say it in your words. its not that much bang for the buck.

    • @waynehearst317
      @waynehearst317 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      set sag once, if your weight hasn't changed + or - 8 pounds and you never had the shock serviced, you're likely still good. Sag does make a HUGE difference, especially if you race and throw the bike into corners or ruts. Going from 108mm down to 102mm made a huge difference on my race bike.
