I keep getting surprised at how deep Bart and Joe was in this lifestyle. I remember tearing up watching is interview on soft white. His mom is the real MVP for not giving up.
you can tell how happy joe is to have johnny there. dude has never been so tapped into a convo ever lol dope to hear johnny's story and also seeing the crew relate to him
Thank you so much for rushing part 2. He's an incredible soul. I could listen to him all day. What a story. Thank you, Johnny, for coming on JK. Thank you, Careful Boyz for inviting him.
Man this really feels a whole different era... it wasnt even that long ago! Thank you for having Johnny on and all of you sharing your experiences. What a liberating and healing talk 🥹👏👏👏
I have been a JK fan for 10+ years and this is the most I have heard Joe talk about his past at once, thank you all for sharing your stories and letting us get a glimpse of what got you to where you are today.
Seems like Joe and Johnny have a lot in common. Hopefully was they did share in the video is okay for the public and I hope they got to discuss more intimately off camera.
As someone who grew up with viet gangs and was part of it, man this hit home, did a small bid super young. Saw how my family was suffering cause of me made me change real quick
Damn son. I have never heard joe talk this much about that part of his life. That story made things too real 😂. When he talked about tagging in previous vids it made me downplay his experience…he said they sold it for crack!?! That boy was in the trenches!!!
Jo did a whole podcast on his channel years ago about his past gang life, but looks like he's taken it down. If you search up "Joverdose - Rebirth" here on TH-cam, you can see pics of old Jo though
Everyone in the SGV knew somebody that was linked up w/ a gang back then. The gang wars were violent and real back then, it was matter of survival. it's so much better and peaceful today
thats crazy joes body language was hella off to me on part 1, its like they both could know of each other from the past or maybe even met in the past but they both treading carefully into the conversation slowly
Thank you for sharing Part 2 of Johnny's story so quickly. His interview on soft white underbelly brought me to tears when he spoke of his parents. And I firmly believe God has special plans for him after what happened with his friend and how it so easily could have been him instead.
Man this whole interview is crazy, im in Johnny's age group but luckily grew up in the north side (white neighborhood), but we still had our fair share of warnings to not walk around other blocks. I remember having homies getting jumped at a gas station just for being asian, crazy ass times.
I appreciate this kind of content. I was fortunately never an Asian gang member but I did knew a lot of homies who were in them and either did time for it or got killed. Crazy how different it is now and all those things happened not too long ago
East Coast Asian gangs operated differently more low key. They had nothing comparable to the Asian gang wars like in Cali. Every hood was fighting each other, it got to a point where they had to fight many Hispanic/Latino gangs that got the green light from the Mexican Mafia to target every and any Asian gang back then. It was all out wars on so many different fronts.
I remember back in the day I was visiting my cousins in California with Cortez shoes on. I’m Canadian so I didn’t know any better. My cousins told me to take my shoes off right away at the airport. Crazy to think about it now, and how dangerous it could have been. Joe could have beat my ass lol!
Mid 30s Asian American here who grew up in SoCal. I can relate to yall so much! So many of my friends and peers joined gangs and I was inherently affiliated to gangs. But luckily I never joined one, still caught a felony though!
ex gf of an abz member, all of this still goes down in the sgv just maybe not as heard of (2019 was the last time i was involved in any of this. i was 16). so crazy to hear this from an older generations pov as well as from an ex wah ching member. had a solid gang of 13 asian boyz at sghs when i was still there. i love watching you guys and these videos have hit home.
One of the best guests in awhile! Growing up in MPK, Johnny speaking facts! Shout out to all the 1st generation parents working hard to provide a life for us:)
There is only one way to describe it. That hole in us can only be filled by the holy spirit but we attempt to stuff other things in that hole laying there waiting for the wires of our brain to get cut and quietly rearranged. But if its not God making those changes life becomes one giant cope. Where we search endlessly for knowledge but not in truth. So we go from echo chamber to echo chamber but all these paths lead to God or a need for God and then its simple. There is only one true God. Cheers and blessings!
Oh man....i grew up in wesco had homies from all over sgv. I'm so glad i didn't get too involved into the crews back then but i remember running into foos like you at raves hahaha.
I had seen Johnny’s underbelly interview and right away thought. JK should bring him in!!! Can’t believe it happened. 😮 and it’s sooooo good. Being him back!!
@@GoldKunai you’d be surprised. I was brought up in a healthy middle-class family in Canada and this lifestyle existed up here as well. However, instead of guns - it was machetes and metal pipes. It didn’t help that Asian films romanticized the triad-life either. It is very much a part of the Asian American, or Asian Canadian experience. As dangerous as it was though, that bond and family connection with those who weren’t blood runs deep. Life is peaceful now and I’m happy for it, and count my blessings. But it’s missing something that those times had.
Lmfao blood in blood out but instead of hispanic it's Asian 😂 I saw the movie for the first time like a week ago it's it crazy how much prison culture in California haven't really changed 😅
These are still kids. Asian gang peaked in the early -mid 90s.. many were refugees Vietnam so they experienced some messed up stuff. And 80s HK gangs. The younger ones trying to impress the older ones were my age (mid teens). Also no internet, connectivity meant hanging out with your crew, going to pool halls, etc. This Johnny person would have been following in the later footsteps when it was just cool to be thuggin in the 2000s emulating those gangs from the 90s and 80s.
It's so funny to see Joe being an ex gang dude trying to brush it off all cool, while that Brat dude asks all dumb questions and tries to pose like a gang member.
First day of school in Hacienda ‘94, some guy asked me “Where are you from?”. I answered “I am from Taiwan”. They all burst out laughing and I didn’t get it until a few days later.
Never seen Joe so serious and stay on topic.. bring Johnny back! Loved this..
😂 fax!
@@albertyang3895 bro I know you lol you’re from the ville right?
Joe is feeling his inner gangsta
This just brought back hella memories for joe, it is crazy though if you look back at the start of jk Bart and joe have changed so much
Frfr
This is a unique interview with Johnny cause he can actually relate with others who grew up in the same exact hood.
I keep getting surprised at how deep Bart and Joe was in this lifestyle. I remember tearing up watching is interview on soft white. His mom is the real MVP for not giving up.

Part 3? Could hear Johnny and Joe trade stories all day
By far my favorite guest ever.
Thank you so much for rushing part 2. He's an incredible soul. I could listen to him all day. What a story. Thank you, Johnny, for coming on JK. Thank you, Careful Boyz for inviting him.

Sir Johnny Chang is Handsome.. it makes me sad for little boys who became gangster because of a bad life ..
Man I love Johnny man he seems so chill and cool vibe to be around.
Thank you for bringing him on here to speak. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his story. Have him be part of your crew!
He is a recent top guest along with Jesus and Jason. Keep it coming boys!!!

Gotta have an episode with Johnny and China Mac. Would love to hear everyone compare west coast vs East coast Asian gangs
China Mac does have a video with him and Johnny. I believe it's on macs TH-cam page.

Thank you, Anthony for adding in the "allegedly" Having Joe's back.

Lol Your cousins saved you. 🤣 Back then something as simple as wearing Nike Cortez would set off a hothead from any number of gangs.
"it's a rumor with a lot of detail" :D yoooooo I'm dying LOL

It enlightened the fans quite a lot about the Asian community/what it went through.
Lol no they’re telling us what they went through in their area. You can’t put that on all asians
