    Definitely all in 🎉
I think this season they’ve pushed the game mechanisms way further than I’ve ever thought possible. I’m not that concerned with not knowing a lot about all the characters from this season because I didn’t know a lot from last season and some of those characters ended up being my favorite to play! I am getting it all because I absolutely love this game and I want to experience all the interesting new things they’ve added to make it even better

"Marvel United: Kitchen Sink". Their marketing team missed an opportunity there.
This playmat is smaller (yay!), but it doesn't have a place for the hero/villain cards, which is the main benefit of a playmat (boo!). I'm still hoping for a 3rd-party rectangular mat, but I think the X-Men mat was the best of the 3 seasons.

I'm very close to the same spot as you. Have everything from S1 & S2 ... wife complains about the amount of stuff, yet we play it a ton.
Thus, $100 then it might just be some add ons like the play mat & some cards/decks. I am considering the plastic tokens because we do play a lot ... and the higher quality locations.
For someone starting with nothing - I encouraged people to get a copy of the x-men (S2) base and play with it ... maybe a $1 pledge to get in the manager and decide later. Though I did that during the S2 campaign and ended up with everything.

I think I’m just waiting for retail. I pledged both of the first seasons (core only season one, core plus Days of Future Past and Gold second season), so I generally have plenty of stuff, and the new mechanics seem cool, but I don’t need that many copies of them. Darkchild and Iron Patriot are tempting though (Utopia/Exodus is one of my 5 favorite x-men stories all time), but those are really the only two stretch goals that interest me. Maybe if they added Demon Bear, the three would be enough to entice me (though I definitely shouldn’t).

@@michaelmueller260 Yet to play it - but you are wrong on so many levels - First a kids game can be cheap or expensive - see toys . second what is a kid ? what is a game? just where do you start here suffice to say I want to tap into my child wonder and uncynical enjoyment - plus this game is what you want be to be a - a fun romp or an extremely hard crunchy resource/efficiency machine . Third effort - how wrong - they have made 3 seasons that can be sandboxed how you like - I sure that takes a lot of effort - it has lots of mechanisms - yes some heroes could be chucked out with little care. I saw adults out and about yesterday while walking my dog doing Pokemon Go community day - is that a kids game needing low effort ?. Plus effort in designing has low correlation to kids or adult game Denigrating designers of games specifically for young kids is doing them a disservice . How much a game sells is irrelevant - Wingspan sells a lot - pretty cute , ooh nice eggs - is it a kids game ?
Plus some games are expensive with little material costs - what is the effort worth ?
Anyway rant over - lots of adults have this in their top ten - I don't want a 4.5 difficulty game that I need a play group 4 to 6 to play 40 times a year to understand the meta - I just want fun and be social - ie be a kid ,
C'mon KS core are extremely good value ( ignoring shipping )for longevity and amount of game play .

@@nimblegoat Firstly, there's 100% nothing wrong with kid's games, I play plenty of them. And you're right, it's great to tap into that childhood joy. We can disagree on how to define a game's complexity, but I'm sorry, there is nothing even approaching an extremely hard or crunchy efficiency puzzle here. Sure, there are some villains and heroes that require some level of strategy, but it still boils down to very simple and almost obvious choices nearly every time. The original design for sure took some effort to create, although the mechanisms are simple and not remotely unique or innovative. Everything beyond that required vastly less effort and design work...plug and chug. Sure, there are some minor differences in how some villains play (heroes, not so much), but those are very minimal. Just look at the number of "different" characters churned out over what, 2 years? There just isn't much effort that goes into adding piles of plastic and characters, and CMON has never spent any time balancing anything other than original core games.
Wingspan is not a kid's game, and it also doesn't try to fomo people into spending $100s of dollars for a handful of "new" birds every year.
Like what you like, play what you want to play, but the question was "is it worth it". For you and thousands of others, the answer seems to be yes. For me and thousands of others, the answer is an emphatic NO.

    • @commandershepard9920
      @commandershepard9920 ปีที่แล้ว

@@michaelmueller260 It's light, but deep if you want it to be. The sky is the limit. You can play on harder difficulties + add in more challenges and get games that are tough enough that it will take you many tries to beat before you finally crack it, requiring you to plan future turns for multiple characters to get the combos to win, at which point that victory feels that much sweeter. Or until you're forced to change out characters until you find a more favorable matchup. Either way, there's some depth there to figuring it out.
Obvious choices? We must be playing different games. Try Vulture 4p Heroic with Sentinel and show proof of all of the "obvious choices" that lead to an easy victory.
On top of that, merely switching out the villains gives different loss conditions to make the games feel different from each other. I've felt more variety playing this game than I do some "heavier" games where, despite the added complexity (ie, more rules to keep track of), each game feels actually similar to each other.
But it's a kids game because... of the art style? (That seems subjective, can already tell you don't like the chibi miniatures, which is fine but again, subjective).
It's a kids game because... it's light? So games are kids games if they're light?
It's low effort because... why, exactly? In many ways, designing a sandbox light game that can appeal to many different difficulty levels is more difficult than designing a good complex game, because that's a tough tightrope to walk. "Efficiency" in rules/rules interactions is a challenge, not an example of low effort.
Now granted, in terms of playable characters, there are other games I like that have MUCH more to each individual playable character. The flipside to this is having a much, much bigger roster of playable characters in MU. Personally I prefer fewer, more distinct characters myself, but I see what they were going for here. A single game that can cast a very wide net over the Marvel property, allowing people to almost always have their favorites to play, and in which both popular characters and more obscure deep cut characters can be mixed and matched, has its own appeal.
But your last point is spot on; is it worth it is up to you. Tons of people don't think it is worth it because no single game can be "worth it" to everyone. And for tons of people, it is worth it, because obviously this game has a lot of fans - enough to apparently make a multi-million dollar KS THREE times, despite the third one having mostly more obscure/deep cut characters.
Edit: Also, the game would of course be cheaper if cardboard standees were used instead of miniatures, but that obviously applies to every game.

No it's not 3.0 these heroes and villain are trash tier compared to any of the other kickstarters.

Maybe, but also maybe not.. If you already own tons of a game, but you enjoy it so much that you want more, then it could just be that you really like that game.
Imperial Assault is one of my favorite boardgames of all time, and you can spend a ton of money on it and still not own everything. And yet if FFG picked it back up and started releasing content for the Prequels, I absolutely would be buying more of it.

@@commandershepard9920 , I'm a Lovecraft nerd so I have seasons 1 & 2 of DMD. I was really torn myself. I love the game but my gaming group has an unusal affection for Eldritich Horror by FFG. So whenever I bring up DMD, they want to play Elditch Horror instead. So I passed on the new seasons. I'll probably cave when I see them on ebay.
My only complaint about DMD is that keeping track of the boss monsters can be a little fiddly and it can slow down the game at what are supposed to be the most intense moments of an otherwise fast-playing game. It may get easier if you play a lot regularly. Other than that, it's a fun game with really amazing art that manages to stand out in a very saturated Lovecraftian game market.

@@rustydowd879 Cool, thank you for the based take, including some of the potential flaws or slowdown. Sounds like a lot of fun! Eldritch Horror huh? Will have to give that one a look; I tend to be a huge fan of FFG.
