    The one caveat to the campaign decks is that you pretty much need to own most of the sets to use them. They all take heroes and locations from all three campaigns. So, if you don't own everything, you might want to think about not doing that one.

      @ThrawnCaedusL, they let us know the characters and locations in update 72.

    • @canonblackwell1
      @canonblackwell1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The issue is also that you can substitute, but you really lose a lot of the story of the campaign if you are trying to play the War of kings deck without having the War of kings expansion. Or Avengers vs X-men or Dark Phoenix without any X-men content.

    Thanks for this video, it's great!
    Some things that are noteworthy though:
    1. The Campaign Decks require you to have ALL the MU stuff. And the only people that have ALL the stuff already, don't need your video to convince them to buy S3 I assume. People that don't own all of S1 and S2, like me, can't even play campaign decks, so I think this should be way lower on the list and this also needs to be mentioned.
    2. Maximum Carnage, World War Hulk and Civil War (and the Team decks and equipment decks) will be available at retail, so you don't need to pledge on Kickstarter to get these eventually.

    I only play with my playmat. Why would I play without it? It has spots for everything and you don't need to use that flimsy arrow thing for the villain dashboard. The other nice thing is that it's much easier to pick up cards from a neoprene mat than off a slick table top. The cardboard upgrades and plastic tokens are an easy pass for me. I've also decided to buy every expansion that they are offering and I don't already have. The extra decks seem to be a no brainer for me. The cards are what really makes the gameplay.

  • @dntmk3r
    @dntmk3r ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First kickstarter I’m backing. I managed to buy all of season 1 from the game store in my city. As well as a good chunk of season 2: Blue Yellow FF Days of Future Past and core box. And they still have the promos box for a really good price (if it’s still there in a few months I’ll get it).
    However I still want more. Getting the Herald pledge with maximum carnage and civil war. The decks are things I won’t use and the campaign decks require everything so I’ll pass on that. I will say I’m tempted by the pet avengers and am curious what the next expansion box will be.
    I don’t mind having all this content because I’ll play it all and have a lot of plans to create my own campaigns and different ways of playing. My biggest gripe with this game is storage and having to talk myself out of getting age of apocalypse. (And whenever I start to think how much money I’ve spent on all of it)

    Really good advice about the expansions that change the game play dramatically (Galactus etc), as a seasoned Marvel United player, the Galactus reminds me a lot of the Sentinels expansion in season 2. Which I hardly ever pulled out and played! Exception being the ‘Sinister 6’ expansion.

      Not an expert (have only played each a couple of times), but season one MU feels more like proof of concept, while season 2 feels like a legitimately good game imo. Which, yeah, that kind of sucks because it means a lot of the most iconic (non-X-men) characters feel lackluster, which has me considering the Civil War expansion because at least then I’ll have a good Cap and Iron Man.

      I decided to go all in and I also bought the previous promo packages. I think 700 is alot of money, but at the same time, these miniatures are super sweet and someone will play this with me. And if I ever decide I don't need it anymore, I'm sure Ill find it a new home and get a return on my investment. I place alot of value on ownership and usage when I judge the cost as well. Every time I play, it pays off more and more so I can extract as much value as I need out of it. I think people would love to play all this with me. I'm banking on it, actually. Other have said but I would not recommend getting the campaign decks unless you are heavily invested. Yes CMON have said that you can replace heroes and locations but they aren't allowed to recommend that because of how the license works(same for equipment and teams), they have to follow the comics and what was approved. The bigger issue is they also stated the campaigns will use various modes so if you don't have the expansion that adds that mode you won't be able to play that campaign.

  • @marshall4311
    @marshall4311 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Campaig decks are nice. However, to fully use them, you need almost all content from all three campaigns so most new backers can barely use it. My advice on them would be: Pass, unless you have everything already and will go all in on this one as well.

    It's probably the best and most comprehensive board game ever, that being said this kickstarter you could probably opt out of at least a few of the expansion packs.
    For me the obvious one to not get is the one with the SHIELD and Skrulls (Secret Invasion). You already have a Nick Fury and the rest of the box is rather meh. • @canonblackwell1
      @canonblackwell1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fantastic four and sinister six are kickstarter exclusive, but any of the expansions that you see character in it that you enjoy will offer a lot. Most of the retail boxes will just be 4-6 heroes and a villain and of those I think the best bang for your buck is the X-men blue and gold team expansions (if you like X-men). Waiting for the Civil War expansion to come to retail will be a good buy (it says it isn’t kickstarter exclusive) but the absolute best place to start is to get the core boxes. There are two right now (base game and X-men) a spiderverse one coming this summer called Spider-Geddon and then this multiverse one next year. Those usually cost about the same or $5-10 more than expansions but come with 5-8 Heroes and 3-4 villains in each making them way more bang than the non-core box expansions.

    I'm over neoprene mats. Most tcg/ccg players prefer cloth mats. Every board gamer should pay $35 for a nice spellground or MetaMat and enjoy the luxury us card gamers enjoy. I don't play board game on game specific neoprene mat, I just use my pvramid mat. I plan to do the same with this KS. Most games that have custom mats, just buy a good one size fits all quality cloth mat. Youll thank me.

    Campaign Decks are NOT good for casual buyers. They specifically state that they recommend that you have ALL Marvel United expansions and campaigns. You won’t get good value without it.

      Weirdly enough...they keep selling it because people have decided it's worth it.

    • @michaelmueller260
      @michaelmueller260 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was that the question though? For the people that already love the game and will surely enjoy more stuff...of course it's worth it to them. If the price was tripled and some were still willing to pay because they would get enough enjoyment out of it, then that's also worth it to them. In addition to answering the question from my personal perspective, my point was to offer a dissenting opinion to anyone who currently doesn't own the game and might be considering jumping in. People should at least be aware that behind all of the hype and bluster, not everyone thinks it's some amazing game that they are missing out on. Yes of course that's a matter of opinion, but it's no less valid of an opinion than those hyping the game. The question is "Should You Back It?". I'm sorry that our answers aren't the same, but that doesn't make my answer wrong.
