    • The History Of Team Co...
Cadillac Racing is an American factory racing team that has a long history of racing and winning races in North America on some of the most demanding and challenging race circuits. They started from stock car racing, then entered the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1950 for the first time. In modern-day history, Cadillac entered prototype racing in the ALMS 2000-2002 with the trilogy of Northstar LMPs. They then entered the SCCA World Challenge which is today known as Pirelli World Challenge in 2004, with two CTS V.R racecars and marked the start of Cadillac winning races and championships, followed by the ATS V.R finishing the trilogy when Cadillac exited PWC in 2017. They return to endurance racing with the current DPi V.R Prototype which has been a very successful machine winning race back-to-back in IMSA. Let's see what Cadillac can do with their new LMDh hypercar in IMSA and FIA WEC including Le Mans.

Do you think Cadillac will ever dominate Le Mans with their new LMDh Hypercar just like its secondary sibling Chevrolet did with the Corvette?

    • @workspilot.

      No, only BMW M Motorsport.

    • @michaelgrabowski1951

No they will not dominate. The euro teams have more experience.

    • @christheradar
      @christheradar  ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@michaelgrabowski1951The last sentence may be true. But I like to remind you that Ford has way less experience compared to Ferrari. Ferrari has more experience at Le Mans than Ford since 1949 and dominated back-to-back until Ford entered with their GT40 supercar in 1966 and killed Ferrari four times at Le Mans overall. So If anything I think Cadillac would at least get 1 or 2, Le Mans wins, or any major WEC race in Europe.

It proves they have the capability to design a F1 car if they ever do enter, they have also spent the last 20 years sucessfully mixing with European competition so they understand the culture difference of world racing not just the US like most domestic championships.

I think getting one car anywhere top 5 would be optimistic. They will be facing the motorsports titan Ferrari, but especially Porsche. And Toyota have got a couple of seasons of experience with their entry. And Peugeot are well experienced in endurance racing by now. (Winning le mans in '92, '93, and 2009). They've gone in the deep end.

Cadillac has the best sounding prototype car at the moment!
The naturally aspirated V8 is just amazing!
The other turbo charged sewing machines don’t stand a chance against that sound!
The second best is the BMW, since it also has a V8 (based on the „old“ bmw DTM car)
Oh btw I say that as a German, not an American!
So it has pretty much triple the weight since no patriotic tendencies.

Solid stuff Chris. I drive an XLR-V and I'm more and more invested in Cadillac racing - the recent Andretti Cadillac rumors for joining F1 have made me extremely excited, as I'm a pretty new F1 fan and would absolutely love to have a hometown F1 team to follow (especially since I drive a Caddy)

The Cadillac team in PWC operated like Corvette Racing, as in they wouldn't let any other teams besides P&M (except French team- Larbre Comp) have as they were too expensive to sell for profit (development wise). They are currently engineering a GT3 Corvette which will be P&Ms first customer GM GT3 car.

I recommend researching the true history of the CTSV in the world challenge. If you look at the road going version and the race car you will see it isn’t really the same car. They really changed the car according to the rules. If you look at the other cars of it’s time you will see private teams building cars that look almost identical to the road cars, for example the ford mustang and the 911 Porsche. Yes the rules allowed them to do this but the original World Challenge cars where 100% based of street cars. Also look into the true history between the Cadillac and the LG motorsports corvette. They told LG ( Lou Gigliotti) to allow the Cadillac to win races. There is also history with corvette racing not allowing the LG motorsports corvette to use Michelin tires. it might take some digging but it’s a good read.

Your actually incorrect.....the CTS-VR that competed in PWC from 2011-2014 was built based off of the actual road car which was required per the PWC rules for the GT class at the time. Prior to 2011 it could be a different story, but when Cadillac took the gloves off and put forward a real racing effort in 2012 it was an absolute monster race car and to this day probably the best sounding race car i've ever heard on track. I will tell you that the LG story of Cadillac telling him to let them win is total BS from 2012 on. No offence but that CTS-Vr could wipe the floor with the LG vett any day of the week and twice on sunday for one reason.....Pratt and Miller. I love Lou and the LG motorsports guys but they simply didn't have the money and resources to match a GM powerhouse racing team like Pratt and Miller. Add in the fact that you also had Johnny O and Andy Pilgrim behind the wheels and that's simply a tall order for any team factory backed or not to compete with having to face two of the best American road racers to get behind the wheel. Plus during those yrs i do believe that Lou raced the Vett in the GTS class which was not the CTS-Vr's class so it proves the point even more that the "let them win" story is completely false. Trust me Without the heavy BOP's placed on the CTS-VR by PWC during those years no other car competing in PWC gt class at the time would have come close to challenging the CTS-VR. Mostly due to the fact that most teams competing were more of a grassroots customer racing type efforts with fixed or limited budgets and just some limited factory support. It wasn't until 2014 when you began seeing true GT3 spec cars and manufactures enter the series (Audi,Porsche,Mclaren ect) with actual aero packages and much lighter weight purpose built race cars did you begin to see the CTS-VR truly challenged because being a true production based platform it didn't have either the aero or weight advantages the new GT3 spec cars would have over it moving forward. I will say that PWC thru everything including the kitchen sink at team Cadillac during the 2014 season with heavy BOP's in hopes that someone else would claim the titles and Audi was poised to take it until the very last race in Utah where I witnessed probably one of the most incredible team efforts by the P&M guys to help JO and AP snatch both away in a fairy tail ending to a race and take both the Drivers and Manufactures Championships despite all the restrictions and weight BOP's on the CTS-VR. It was fitting to see the CTS-VR leave competition the way it did as a dominate winner. In short the writing was on the wall that Cadillac racing's next GT car had to be built and certified to FIA GT3 global standards which is what the ATS-VR was plus Cadillac knew going forward the CTS-VR would not qualify for the GT class moving beyond 2014. I believe that Cadillac at this time was in it's weird transition as a company and it was clear that Cadillac and Corvette were never going to compete head to head per GM and Cadillac had no interest in a customer racing program or a GT3 program moving forward since it was set on moving up to prototype class cars we see today and the desire to move into F1. It's a shame because the ATS-VR was very successful right out of the box and could have done very well over time and easily gone toe to toe with the Vett or any other manufacture with a GT3 spec car in any series around the world. I would also speculate that the whole going total electric line up was decided around this time and it was a death nail for any future Cadillac GT3 racing which is really sad because the ATS-VR had a whole lot of potential to be a super successful GT3 platform. Unfortunately you will never see them on a track in major competition ever again because if you were to be able to acquire one of the 3 certified FIA chassis Pratt and Miller built, you would have to sign an agreement that the car would never be entered in to a major racing series period. That plus a half million dollar price tag to even buy the chassis from P&M (if they would even sell one) would make for one hell of an expensive track day car cause thats all you could really do with it . Those 2 factors tell me that sadly we will never see one again on a track ever. Trust me I'd love to get one of the cars and drop the new V8 motor running in the new LMDH car without all the the hybrid crap and have my dream build track day car....it's the dollar figure that ends that dream really quick and considering I can find plenty of used GT3 spec lambos, porsche, ect for half the cost of what the ATS=VR would cost me in the end and be just as fast around the track with no restrictions or strings attached. But I can still dream. 😎

The only reason why the Cadillac ATS-V.R didn't compete outside PWC was that Cadillac Racing didn't want to sell the car to privateer teams, but only wanted to run the car with a factory backed team. As such, it was denied a FIA GT3 homologation.
Thus it simply wasn't allowed to run in other FIA GT3 sanctioned series worldwide.

@@W4CHHUNDi Yeah I was going to say the same thing. It's really strange as to why the ATS-V.R was left out on a lot of GT3 championships besides PWC. They had the money to run the car in IMSA, and the ATS-V.R was testing at Sebring to qualify in IMSA GTD, not GTE.

The CTS V.R Coupe wasn't a GT3 racecar and competed in some GTA class (can't recall) until 2014 when European GT3 cars joined the PWC class and that's when Cadillac had to replace It with the GT3 spec ATS V.R car.

They left the poor thing on the side of the track til the end of the race lol. Driver and all. It was one of the coolest opportunities to ever present itself to me. Those were such impressive cars up close. I remember leaning against the the big spoiler while we all held it in place for one last attempt to start it up again, but that didn't work so it just got pushed back.
