Thank you so much for watching. Sounds amazing. Happy planting. We always make a mess, but that is part of the fun 😀

what is the name of that grit you use? i've lost 2/3 of my bearded iris because when i emptied the pots with dead iris, the bottom half of the dirt was wet and caked together. i was using normal potting soil, which evidently retains a lot of water.

It's just horticultural grit, we get different brands depending on which garden centre we get it from. Sorry you've lost your iris, it's been a particularly wet year and some of our plants in pots have rotted too.

What is the name of the light blue flowers behind you?

Those look so pretty and I am sure that you can't wait for them to bloom. Hasn't it been a lovely day today? It's been so nice to spend a few hours outside and I've finally planted all my bulbs as I've been waiting for pots from the summer bedding. I can't believe how nice our gardens are looking for the time of year. I've had great success from Bidens which are still in flower so I'll definitely be planting more of those next year. Do you compost your garden waste? I've never been successful with a compost bin and always end up with a sludgy mess despite advice from my brother about getting the right balance. I only ask because our Council is getting fussy about what can go in their bins. They refused to empty one day as I'd put lawn edges in and they classed that as turf. I've been pulling out loads of spent sunflowers and some of the stalks are enormous and make the bin heavy and I don't want another refusal. Hope you both have a lovely evening. Lots of love.

They are going to be so lovely when they flower in late winter when we are in need of some flowers to brighten up the garden. It’s been a lovely day today. We had plans to spend some time outside but got side tracked putting up the Christmas tree (we are always very early to get the decorations up!). We have a green bin which everything compostable goes into. We are thinking out having a heap at the end of the garden, but this space hasn’t been tidied yet. We will be collecting leaves for leafmould in bags though when they start dropping from the trees at the front. If the green bin is heavy, the council will look and if there is any soil, they can refuse to empty it. You should be fine with the sunflower stalks though. We are hoping to get some jobs in the garden tomorrow done as the list keeps getting longer! Lots of love Wendy, take care.

No fertiliser? Are you growing them as annuals, throwing them out after they finish?

We didn't add any additional fertiliser apart from what was in the compost. We feed after flowering to bulk the bulbs up for the next year.

Hi there ! I tried bigger ones but was a bit disappointed because they didn't flower long. I didn't know a smaller size existed. I wonder, both of you use in your videos this big green "basin" that seems quite useful and can't seem to find it in my garden centres here...Did you buy them on the web or maybe is it a trendy item in the uk specifically ?

This type of dwarf iris are so lovely, please give them a try. There are many varieties with different colours. We love the green potting tray. It is so useful. We got it from Amazon so you might be able to get it delivered to you in France. The link is www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001IPYM9Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Where do you keep the pot after planting it? Indoors / outdoors / shed? Does it matter if the pot freezes in the winter? Should you keep it moist or let it dry out? Thanks

Hi there. Thanks for watching. These are very hardy bulbs. You can keep the pot outdoors, it's okay if it freezes during the winter and just water when required 🙂 You will not be disappointed.
