I love your dad! I lost mine in 1957 when he was just 57 and I was 10. I have wondered all these years just how it would have been if he were still here. I am an old man now 72 and have two girls, neither one interested in the outdoors, sadly! I built a tool/machine shop by myself some years ago and did a fair job of it, it's still standing. But I still miss my Dad.He would have helped. He was one of these people that could do anything.

I relate to that a lot, except my dad didn’t pass away, he became addicted to substances and hasn’t bothered in a long long time.. I’ve also always wondered what it would have been like to do something like this with him.

Such an inspiring video . Spending time with family (your dad) is priceless !!!!! Sadly lots of people have lost that tradition. They are missing out on a lot in life! You are blessed to have such a dad. I'm blessed, I still have my dad as well. He is 77 and slowly losing his memory. He still drives and goes golfing . We use to go camping alot the rustic way and I loved it. Nothing like cooking on an open camp fire. My dad was super, he took me and my 3 sisters lots of places growing up and spent as much time with is as he could. So now I spend as much time with him as I can. Thank you so much for sharing these videos, you and your dad are awesome . May God bless you both. Hope y'all have an awesome day.💜

You're both loads of fun to watch and listen to. No idea you were from Britain when I watched the first one. Great idea for all the homeless in our area now, instead of freezing to death in a thin tent. But it shows the ingenuity that the people who raised me grew up with. You'd think such places would rot away but over 20 years time in the southern hills of Ohio and some of them are still standing today and inhabited. Most were built during the great depression and before by immigrants. The man who raised me was very handy like you too and built a blanket chest out of pallet wood. Brings back happy memories of the hours were spent taking pallets apart and straightening nails. Dad saved them all and put them in a big coffee can of used oil so they didn't rust and become useless. He helped me build a rabbit hutch and I was so shocked for a teenage girl to have been able to do most of the work myself. It was such a character builder that I feel sad today's youth aren't having this type of fun. I'm hoping that by sharing your videos on my page that I'll reach some of them and cause them to know it doesn't take loads of money to do what you're doing. Good on both of you for sharing all this with all of us across the world and God bless you.

Reminds me of an old family tradition of ours @ Easter (US). We had "Easter Egg Battles". The one who wound up with no cracks in their egg WON! We even had a trophy that my late Dad would inscribe the winners name & year on it. Fun memories of days gone past. Dad, you're delightful to watch. Thanks for the great video.

My father died when I had just turned one. I would give anything to have a father to do things like this with. Thanks for sharing your memories and thanks for reusing things. My mothers basement currently has a workshop from a master wood worker, including some of his rare woods. Mom is 86 and I worked my body too hard when I was young, at 62, this old lady can't do what she wants to do anymore. So, I sit and soak up things I used to do. Love your channel, love the ASMR just so my head can stay focused on what visuals are before me.
I truly enjoy what appears to be a very healthy relationship as well as fantastic content. Love historical buildings too...I had an 1815 log cabin, I sewed two sail cloth tents, a lean to and a merchants tend...by hand. I have things in several museums, commissioned items for display. Everything I make, build or direct is done with tools of the time. As a woman, you can imagine how beat up I am, hauling 16 foot long poplar logs by myself to add to the cabin. That was my commitment. Now, I bounce around the survival/historical/DIY/resto and repair...well....you get the drift, and I make suggestions or encourage others with praise. I hope this gets read, I tend to go on about stuff I love.
    Anyway, thank you!

Save the cabin it's very special for you and your father to spend good times with each other.
👍😁 That's very smart to stain the cabin!
If it's possible to put the cabin on logs off the ground so that the water won't soak the bottom it will help save your cabin.
Even putting the cabin on some cinder blocks off the ground will help save the cabin.👍
These are some of positive ideas that have helped others save there cabin's.

    Great Video.
I noticed a lot of Toadstools coming up early this year, tail end of August. Normally expect to see them in late September.
Conkers! Blimey. I always loved a 'Cheeser'. My Brother had a 'Twelver' and he eventually confessed he'd given it a coat a varnish, which was why nobody could beat him. He was banned from using it after that. I see so many conkers laying about on the ground these days. Couldn't get them when I was younger because everyone wanted them and not many tress about in the town. My Dad used to take myself and my Brothers to a wood and we'd fill carrier bags with them and share them out with our mates (making sure we'd had first pick of course). Simpler days. Cheers gents.

Yeah. Vinegar & oven baking was fine but varnishing was adding a foreign element to the game & was cheating. A few on here have been admitting to varnishing. Tut! Tut!

When I was little, there were horse chestnuts trees all over the place. I thought they were beautiful in color and I loved anything that had to do with horses, though that doesn't count here. I was quite little and all the bigger kids used to get the chestnuts, so I never got any for myself. They are beautiful nuts, though.

In Germany the acorns and conkers are coming down for a week or two now. The reason is, that they are ripe. It was too dry this year. There was almost no rainfall in the whole northern hemisphere. It doesn't mean, that winter is coming early but summer was too early and too dry. ;) Nice cabin moving, especially the part of the wall mounted upside down. :)

Hi Guys! Love your videos! I'm a 60 year old Canadian woman. I have been working overseas as an English teacher for the last 13 years. However, off and on, I have been home for short periods of time. I rented a cabin in the woods last winter for 4 months in northern Ontario, before returning to Asia again. I loved it! I want to come home but find Canada so expensive to live.... and, the last place I want to be is in an apartment in the city.Your recycled, pallet wood cabin has inspired me to buy some land and build my own , off-grid cabin in northern, Ontario. Of course, it would have to designed a little differently because the area I wish to build gets down to -40 or lower in winter, so it would have to be well insulated.I'll also build it a little bigger because it will be my permanent residence. There is lots of fishing in the area and in my younger days, I used to trap and hunt, and grow my own veggies. I didn't think I could afford to build, or do it on my own, but watching your videos has given me hope. I think if I let my friends know that I'm looking for building materials and tools, I might be able to do it really cheap. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

You are right that every country gets their own winter. Down here in Canada, specially were I am, north of the 50th parallel, it is quite cold in the winter. We reach sometimes -35 to -40 celsius without the windchill. You have to be really creative to survive in the woods in winter! You are lucky in the UK! Well done guys. You showed us that wood, under any form it is, is still wood and with creativity, you can build anything. Continue the good work!

i grew up in the smokies in the United States and my grandmother always told me watch the woolly worms in the fall because the their colors were a indicator of the coming winter. if the majority of the woolly worms are brown its going to be a mild winter and the blacker they get, the worst of a winter it will be. i have watched this over the years since a young lad and i believe it holds some truth. last winter is was below 0F for over a month and it was a cold wet snowy winter and all the woolly worms were pitch black. thanks for the insight on the acorns, i have noticed as well it seems there is way more than normal this year!

Just a little note from an arboriculturalist, in part the reason for mass seed and yield production this year is because of the hot weather, drought stress is causing a lot of specimens to overproduce early for fear of death due to lack of water. Also hence the rapid growth as the trees sense lack of water so produce quicker, this may be why the conkers are so strong because less water dries and bonds fibers within the seed/conker. I hope this gives some explanation as to what is happening. P.S. I really enjoy your channel and it does inspire me to get out there in the woods in my spare time, along with the time I spend out there for work. Keep up the great work. Cheers (another) Mike.

That was great! I’ve never heard of that game, but you both seemed to have a lot of fun! Here in the states, well in Nevada, we have had colder weather earlier than I think I’ve ever seen. Last night it got down to 13 degrees Fahrenheit. We don’t usually see it down that low until January. My first thought is could it be from Mount Kilauea’s latest eruptions? I know volcanic activity can affect the temperatures around the globe. Then we have severe wild fires burning in California, can that affect the weather? I live in a travel trailer, so I hope I survive this winter here. I love the relationship that you have between father and son. You work really well together, and that is a unique and special thing. I love your one man bug out cabin. If I was able to I’d build one myself, but I don’t see that happening in my lifetime unfortunately. Take care and God bless you and your family!

Tell your dad that we old timers in the US call those Stanley knives as well. Loved the conga ? competition at the end. Hell, I enjoyed the whole video, as always. We always injected a little danger into our games as well. Ever play Mumbley Peg? It involves flipping Jack Knives, standing on their points, through a progression of increasingly tender body parts such as finger tips, knuckles, wrist bone, elbow bone, shoulder, chin, lip, the tip of the nose and under the eyelids, and trying to get the point to stick in the ground. Digging matchsticks out of the dirt with your teeth was the penalty for being the last guy to complete the course. All the other players got to hammer in the matchsticks with a number of strikes from their knife handles that had been determined before play started. Great way for a bunch of poor 10 year olds to pass a Saturday afternoon! LOL
We also played Chicken by facing off and throwing a Jack knife between our opponent's feet . If it stuck in the ground he would have to move one foot over against it, creating a smaller space between his feet for the next toss. Then he tried to stick his knife between your feet. You go back and forth this way until one of you is smart enough to realize that the gap was too small for your opponent to hit between your feet and you Chicken Out and he wins. If either of you sticks the knife into the other's foot he "wins". Dumb, huh?
